The cargo ship continued to move downstream.
Su Yu stood at the bow of the ship, comfortably enjoying the river breeze, discussing territorial construction issues with the two ladies.
Swift ruffled her hair, saying: “I have some experience in territory management, I’ve played almost all of the major single-player and online games on the market, many of them being city-building games. Also, in the previous holographic game ‘Magic Realm’, our ‘Game King’ guild owned a small town, and I managed all the affairs of that town.”
Sky Dragon raised her hand eagerly, “I have experience in spending money in mobile games! Isn’t it just buying resources when in need, and using unlimited ‘Speed Up Cards’ to level up?”
Su Yu laughed: “You’re both right! Well, how about this – I give you both territory management permissions, and we build this territory together?”
“Yes, yes!” Sky Dragon squinted in laughter.
“Well…” Swift hesitated a bit.
Being a high-end player, Swift hoped to maintain her level ranking and equipment in the lead.
Building a territory requires a lot of effort, and she was afraid that it would hinder her game progression, which would be costly.
Su Yu figured out her concerns and smiled: “Don’t worry, I have ways to ensure your level ranking stays within the top 20 in the leaderboard, and I guarantee the level of your equipment can reach the top five within the priest class. Are you feeling assured now?”
“If that’s the case, I’m willing to put my main focus on territory management.” Lai thought for a moment, and eventually agreed.
If anyone else had promised her such a thing, Swift would surely not pay attention to it. But the person speaking was Su Yu, and that made him unquestionable.
“I-I-I, I want equipment too!” Sky Dragon raised her hand high.
“Rest assured, you’re not forgotten!” Su Yu bent down and pinched Sky Dragon’s cute little nose.
The cargo ship continued to navigate the wide river.
When only two or three hundred meters away from the territory, a baritone voice suddenly echoed in the three people’s ear:
“From the first sprout of life under water, to the giant beasts of the Stone Age, to the first upright walk of mankind, you’ve experienced much. Now, embark on your greatest exploration— from the cradle of early civilizations to the vast universe.”
“Who is it? Who’s speaking?” Sky Dragon vigilantly looked left and right.
“It’s probably the background sound effect before the territory construction starts.” Su Yu shrugged, unbothered.
At that moment, he received a system alert:
“Ding, please give your territory a name.”
“Ladies, it’s time to name the territory, any suggestions?” Su Yu looked at them.
Nemesis territory? Gold territory? Those didn’t seem good.
“Um…” Sky Dragon held her adorable chin and slowly suggested: “The territory is so close to the sea and at the mouth of the big river… how about we call it ‘Shang·hai’?”
“Shang·hai?” Both Su Yu and Swift were taken aback.
“Seems fine.” After some thought, Su Yu accepted. As long as it was just a codename, a familiar one could provoke a sense of intimacy from the players.
However, after typing in “Shang·hai”, he received another game prompt:
“Ding, you cannot use real-world geographical names.”
“Uh, it seems we cannot use real-world geographical names. How about we think of another one?” Su Yu looked at Sky Dragon.
“We can’t use real-world geographic names?”
Sky Dragon tilted her head to think. Suddenly, she came up with an idea: “Got it! As this is a Western fantasy online game, if we can’t call it ‘Shang·hai’, we can translate ‘Shang·hai’ into English and then transliterate it back into Chinese!”
“Transliteration?”
“Yes!” Sky Dragon was excited: “‘Shang·hai’ translated into English is ‘up sea’, and transliterated into Chinese it becomes ‘Aphi’. How about we name the territory ‘Aphi territory’?”
“Aphi….” Su Yu couldn’t help but retort: “My hometown is ‘He·Fei’, if we were to transliterate that, wouldn’t it become ‘Da Fa Blite’? …but no, you’re right. It does sound quite exotic.”
“Then let’s call it Aphi territory!” Su Yu waved his hand grandly and filled in the name of the territory.
At the edge of the territory, the small cargo ship gradually approached the shore.
Su Yu had only bought a small cargo ship this time and had not purchased a large one. His main consideration was that the territory did not yet have a dock or other facilities, so a large ship couldn’t dock.
As he guessed, the small cargo ship could just barely dock on the pebble beach. If it had been a large ship, they would probably be dumbly stuck in the middle of the river.
“Swift, you and Sky Dragon direct the sailors to unload the goods. I’ll take a walk around the territory first.” Su Yu instructed.
He purchased a large quantity of supplies, such as food, salt, clothes, wood saws, iron shovels for stone mining, and loaded them onto the cargo ship in Orleans City.
“Alright then!” Swift responded, turning to instruct the boatmen to move the supplies.
Alone, Su Yu stepped onto the sturdy ground of his territory, heading for the thatched cottage at its center.
As he walked on the territory’s land, a panel showing the property’s attributes automatically appeared before Su Yu:
[Aphi Village]
Level: Small Village
Population: 4/200
Prosperity: 55/100
Livability: 47/100
Resources: Food 0, Wood 0, Stone 0, Gold 0.
Su Yu had a very clear understanding of territory construction.
In the game “Evolution”, the key factor influencing territory upgrades is only one thing – population.
Of course, they are referring to the NPC population.
When the NPC population reaches 200, the territory will be upgraded to a medium-sized village;
When it reaches 400, it will upgrade to a large village;
When it reaches 600, it will upgrade to a giant village;
When it reaches 1000, it will upgrade to a small town;
When it reaches 2000, it will upgrade to a medium-size town;
And so on.
When the population reaches ten thousand, it upgrades to a small county city;
When the population reaches one hundred thousand, it upgrades to a small city.
Apart from population, there are no other conditions for territory upgrades. Quite free!
However, increasing the population is not a simple task.
Population can’t be bought with money. Some NPCs can be attracted to work in the territory with money, but these NPCs are not included in the territory’s population.
Every two hours (one in-game day), some “refugees” will be refreshed on the edge of the territory.
The higher the territory’s prosperity and livability, the more “refugees” are refreshed.
When “refugees” join the territory and become part of it, it increases the territory’s population.
Prosperity and livability are comprehensive indicators of territory development.
Prosperity is the current development index of the territory;
Livability represents whether the locals are happy or not.
In simple terms,
The more complete and higher the level of various basic infrastructure, the higher the prosperity;
If the locals have food to eat, work to do, and a rich material and cultural life, and there are more entertainment facilities such as theaters, arenas, circuses, parks, etc., the livability will become higher.
The maximum value for both prosperity and livability is 100 points.
Above 60 points, the population grows normally; above 90 points, the population grows explosively;
Below 60 points, the population slowly decreases; below 10 points, you can basically consider giving up the territory.
If prosperity and livability are disproportionate, the lower one will prevail.
Generally, if the lord builds the territory with care, constructing a variety of houses to meet the growing material and cultural needs of the locals, the prosperity and livability of the territory will remain relatively high.
But under special circumstances, such as “Monster Siege”, “Bandits Attack”, “Flood Disaster”, “Typhoon Rampage”, “Local Crime”, etc., both prosperity and livability will drop.
This requires the lord’s precise management, adoption of relevant policies according to circumstances, and strengthening of the territory’s security and defense forces. Only then can the population growth be maintained at a high speed, and the territory upgraded to the city level.
