Chapter 460: 459, [Illusion Duel] (II): Temple Escape Final Winner _1

[Temple Run] enters the fourth stage.

Nothing unexpected happened as the stage commenced.

However, after three turns, Su Yu was surprised to discover that the race track changed from a zigzagging ‘broken line’ type to a straight ‘linear’ type with no turns.

The straight track stretched all the way to the horizon, providing a clear view of the entire thing filled with obstacles and gold coins.

At the same time, nine identical tracks appeared around him, three on the left and six on the right. Each track had a figure running at its end – the nine players competing against him.

Su Yu looked left and right to see that among the nine players, there were two white people, two black people, one brown-skinned mixed-race person, and three Asians.

A closer look at the three Asians revealed that two of them appeared to be from his own country, while one looked somewhat Korean.

So, that’s what they meant by inter-server competitions!

As the ten players looked at each other, they all wore awkward expressions.

It was clear that they all found this manner of confrontation rather embarrassing.

At this moment, Bernina’s soft, slightly teasing voice echoed in the ears of the ten players: “Warning! Game rules have changed: after each player collects ten gold coins, two obstacles will be generated in front of two random players. Everyone’s speed will increase by 50% within ten seconds.”

As soon as Bernina finishes speaking, Su Yu feels his character starting to speed up.

After he had collected the first group of ten gold coins, a shadow suddenly appeared not far ahead.

Su Yu quickly reacted, diving forward in a slide to barely avoid the obstacles in a thrilling fashion.

After sliding through the tunnel, a vine abruptly refreshing just a short distance ahead prompts him to immediately stand and leap high, skimming past the vine. The entire process greatly tested his quick reactions.

Many of the other players weren’t as fortunate.

The Korean player was very lucky as he had no additional obstacles refreshing in front of him. However, one of the white players was extremely unlucky with four successive vines refreshed in front of him, hence, he was tripped by the vines and eliminated.

Just after one round, the number of participants reduced to “7/100”.

The competition continued.

As the speed progressively increased, even Su Yu began to struggle.

He didn’t have the luxury of observing others, focusing only on navigating his path, aiming to collect as many gold coins as possible.

Luckily, Su Yu didn’t confront too many or impossible obstacles, stumbling here and there but always in a hair-raising manner.

After running for half a minute, the number of participants dwindled to “3/100.”

In his hectic run, Su Yu glanced to his right and saw only two tracks remaining, each occupied by a desperate runner.

One was the Korean player, the other a scrawny, bespectacled white middle schooler appearing much like the nerds suffering from bullying in American movies.

“Warning! Warning! Approaching the fifth stage, 3, 2, 1, 0.”

As the countdown ended, two large gray stones appeared in their hands, along with a bamboo basket full of stones on their backs.

Due to the weight of the stones, the running speed of Su Yu and the two others drastically reduced, even slower than in the first stage.

The gorilla chasing them finally had the chance to catch up, getting closer along the track while its black stick swung frantically, generating a formidable gust of wind.

Su Yu tried to throw away the stones in his hands, only to find that they were stuck like glue.

The bamboo basket was also securely fastened to his back, making it tough to remove in a short time (assuming it could be removed).

“Use the stones in your hands and the basket on your back to prevent the monster from advancing.” Bernina’s voice gave the fifth stage hint.

Upon hearing the hint, both the Korean and the white schoolboy immediately turned and threw stones at the gorilla. Su Yu also joined them.

However, these three gorillas weren’t easy to deal with.

Each time Su Yu and his two competitors threw a stone, the gorillas would treat it like baseball, using their sticks to send the stones flying.

Within a few seconds, all three players had thrown six or seven stones, but not a single one hit any of the gorillas. All were sent flying by the sticks.

The sixth stone thrown by the Korean flew in a tricky trajectory. After being hit by the gorilla, it ended up flying straight towards Su Yu. Fortunately, Su Yu was able to drop in time and the stone flew past his body.

Scratching his head in embarrassment, the Korean offered Su Yu an apologetic smile.

But his smile immediately froze. It was as if he suddenly understood something!

Su Yu and the white schoolboy also caught on!

Since the gorillas could bat away every stone, if they adjusted the angle of their throws so the deflected stones would hit the other two competitors, wouldn’t they clear the stage with ease?

Su Yu was the first to realize this.

He calculated the angle between the Korean and himself. Then he threw two stones towards the left side of the gorilla, two seconds apart.

Bang! Bang!

Just like a batter in baseball, the gorilla hit the stones back towards the Korean!

The Korean was so shocked he threw the two stones he held and dived to avoid the incoming stones.

However, the ‘dive’ action could not last forever. Under the game rules, the Korean was forced to stand after two seconds, and got hit squarely by the second stone coming towards him.

Ahhh!

The stone hit him in the abdomen, he screamed and fell from the ridge.

The white schoolboy saw this horrific sight and was drenched in cold sweat. He quickly turned to calculate the angle needed to throw the stones to hit Su Yu.

What he didn’t expect, however, was one of the Korean’s stones, swung by the gorilla, flew straight at him!

The white schoolboy was completely oblivious of the side-flying stone and was tripped by the stone that hit his leg, sending him tumbling down the cliff.

…..

“Ding, congratulations to the player [Nemesis] for winning the first Illusion Duel! You’ve collected 625 gold coins and won the reward [Jeffery’s Gift (Rare)].”

Su Yu glanced at the Korean and the white schoolboy who had fallen.

It has to be said, this mode is quite interesting!

Firstly, this mode is very fair. No one could predict what will happen on the track, it purely depended on one’s reaction ability to pass the level.

Secondly, being the first is truly exhilarating! It’s much better than the Illusion Duel’s simple slaughter fest from the last time.

After the white schoolboy was eliminated, a golden shining magic lamp appeared in front of Su Yu.

The magic lamp spun around and eventually released a cloud of blue mist from its spout.

The blue mist condensed mid-air into a blue figure dressed in a gold coat.

“I am the genie, Jefferys. Congratulations, adventurer, on making it through the first challenge! I will grant you one wish!” The humanoid figure [Jefferys] said smiling at Su Yu.
