Cain massaged his head as a headache split through it,
"This..."
Susan was done revealing her plan to him and was busy waiting for his confirmation with eyes shining brightly. Meanwhile, Evangeline was off in a corner, trying her best to stifle the laughs coming from her throat.
Cain had no doubt that the expression he was making was very ugly. And that was because of Susan's plan. Or the sheer absurdity of it.
Cain tried calming down. Keeping a straight face, he spoke with uncertainty,
"Charting the course of the rift is indeed brilliant, I'll give you that..."
Cain was taken aback when Susan revealed to him that she had somehow managed to chart the course of the rift. Since it revolved around the giant pillar of light, there was doubt that it had a path it followed.
"Although it was difficult, I somehow managed, yes." Susan had a slight blush on her face as she spoke.
Indeed, something like plotting the course of a rift in space could only be done with a frightening amount of knowledge. Cain had no idea where she got this knowledge.
'She definitely has not been idle all this while.' Cain reasoned she had probably been on it since they arrived on this medium-sized floating landmass.
Thinking about all the effort she put into it, Cain let out a tired sigh.
"However... what you suggest is equivalent to suicide. There's almost no way it will work."
Susan's plan was simple, yet if there was even a single mistake, it could cost them a lot depending on how bad the situation was.
Upon plotting the course of the rift, she had come to realize that in two weeks, the rift would become aligned with the peak of a very tall cliff not too far away from where they currently were.
She planned to get everyone on the cliff and have them jump into the rift. It was very simple. However, there were some details that had to be mentioned...
One, the climb up the cliff was going to be treacherous. Because of the terrain of the cliff, just a single misstep would lead one to their doom.
Two, even though the rift would be very close to the cliff, that was still in comparison to the rest of the ground. It was still far away, such that, Cain would have a hard time making the jump even if it was only him. This meant it was going to be night impossible for the beastmen to make the jump.
Finally, there was the issue of the {Abyssal Realm Walkers}. Cain had been opportune to see the horrors that dwelt in the darkness of the void, and he didn't like it one bit. He even got to fight one of them, almost getting himself killed in the process.
"The odds are indeed stacked for failure." Evangeline finally said after some time of silent chuckles.
Throwing her a side glance, Susan spoke indifferently,
"If you have a better idea, I'm all ears."
Evangeline's laughter died down.
"There are many ways to die, but falling to your death has to be the most stupid of them all. Plus, those Realm Walkers are strong. Very strong..."
Susan shrugged, "I didn't get to fight any, so I wouldn't know."
Evangeline sighed. Then she turned to Cain with a deadpan expression,
"Why aren't you trying to dissuade her?"
Cain scratched his head, "Although the plan sounds insane, it is doable."
His brows furrowed as he continued, "Still, it's going to require a lot of effort and planning."
Susan smiled, "That's why we have two more weeks, no?"
Evangeline shook her head, "I told you I was going to fight with you, not die with you. If you still have suicide plans, I don't want to be involved."
Susan raised a brow, "Regardless of how you put it, fighting the realm walkers is going to be unavoidable."
Evangeline shrugged, "That isn't the most concerning part of your plan. Yes, the realm walkers are strong, but the climb will put many lives at risk, including those of us without good escape and maneuvering skills or spells."
'She has a good point.'
The beastmen were in the most danger. However, that didn't mean Cain and the others would be able to survive a two-kilometer drop to the ground. Even beings like Stingè wouldn't get off with light injuries.
The danger of climbing the cliff was just as pressing as going toe to toe with a foe as powerful as an {Abyssal Realm Walker} if not more.
Cain fell silent as he dove into his thoughts. In the end, he came to a despairing conclusion.
He then interrupted the two bickering women,
"It might be dangerous, but it's currently our only option."
Evangeline frowned, "There is a difference between bravery and idiocy."
Cain waved his hands, "Relax. I'm not trying to be brave. Instead, there is a better way to do things. The plan might not be so bad if we factor in all our options."
Evangeline's feather-like brows raised,
"Really? Like what?" seaʀᴄh thё Nôvel(F)ire.nёt website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
Csin grinned, "Like magic..."
Hearing that, Evangeline fell silent. Staring at Cain with her gem-like eyes, she asked,
"What do you have in mind?"
Cain shrugged, "Although it is taking form in my head, it will require a lot of planning. I'll need to speak with Hunter, Floki, and Snake Eyes first."
Susan smiled at Cain, "Good. If it's you, then we definitely have a shot at this."
Then turning to Evangeline who had a contemplative look on her face, she spoke,
"Try not to doubt him too much. He is capable of producing miracles..."
Cain coughed in embarrassment,
"Miracles? I wouldn't go that far..."
Susan shrugged, "I'm only saying the truth. I'll speak to Ignis and Jenny."
Cain's brows shot up, "Speaking of which... Where are those two?"
A terrifying smile appeared on Susan's face,
"They are... indoctrinating those mu-, I mean, the beastmen."
Cain felt a cold shiver run down his spine. But he couldn't place what it was. Staring at Susan who had a beautiful, but scary smile on her face, he only had one thought,
'Terrifying. These ladies are terrifying.'
With that, Susan finally went down the hill.
"Tch! That chick is crazy..." Evangeline clicked her tongue.
Cain shot her a glance, "Like you're one to talk..."
"Oh?" Evangeline shot Cain a glare, causing him to shift a few steps away in fear.
Letting out a sigh, the murderous aura around her dissipated,
"But, she's competent."
Cain smiled, "Of course she is. She's always been this way."
Evangeline shrugged, "Either way, I still think that plan is insane. What do you even plan to do?"
Cain grinned, "I plan to turn into a dragon."
Evangeline stared at him for a few seconds before letting out the most tired sigh of the day.
"Well, good luck with that. I'm going to go get some rest."
With that, the shadows beneath her came alive and she skipped through them, disappearing from the top of the hill, leaving Cain alone with only his thoughts.
Cain snickered to himself as a plan gradually formed in his head.
'So exciting...' He was by no means a daredevil, but when push came to give, he was not against doing crazy things.
Cain transferred his senses into the {Dark Soul and observed with its eyes.
The specter was currently in the ground, observing Pudding, also known as the {Amethyst Silkworm}, at work.
'She's gotten much bigger. Just how am I going to get her up there as well?'
All this time, Cain had managed to keep Pudding well-fed. The fragmented lands were rich in all sorts of magical ore and gems, so there was no shortage of meals for her.
Of course, that also meant there was no shortage of metals and magic stones for Cain to work with.
During the time they had spent on the road and this floating landmass, he had also been busy.
He had created more {GT-01 Magnum} handguns to outfit the entire beastman company.
He also made full use of the beastmen Hunter had put at his disposal. They greatly helped in assembling the weapons and magazines he had to make. As a result, he rewarded them by getting them better weapons and gear from the special system store he had been unaware of all this time.
'Stupid system, making me miss out all this time.'
He had just recently come to know that there were many things about the system he was unaware of. The system only informed the host of what he wanted to know. This meant that if Cain had never asked, he would have been unaware of the special store forever.
The special store didn't have the trash runes and equipment the general store had. All the items were incredibly good. However, they were also incredibly expensive.
'The reason the items in the general store are so cheap is most likely because of their poor quality. These things on the other hand...'
As he observed Pudding munching on a giant piece of ore, he brought out a large piece of meat from his inventory and began to chomp down.
His mind was focused on the contents of the special system store...
He suddenly saw something that made his eyes go wide and the piece of half-eaten meat fall out.
"Sweet mother of..."
