Chapter 404: Eye of Uncertainty.

One of the fundamental laws of the microscopic universe is the principle of uncertainty...

Just like its name, the law governs the reality of being unable to measure all properties of an element, or object in the microscopic world. To put it simply, it is impossible to accurately measure all physical properties of an element that exists in the microscopic universe with unlimited precision.

Throughout the history of civilization, numerous beings have pondered on the mystery of this law, as it is treated as a backbone in both science and magic-related studies. One of them came up with a suggestion...

Since it was impossible to know, with precision, all physical properties of a microscopic element simultaneously, then it would be fair to say that until measurement occurred, said element existed in all possible states at the same time...

For the mundane man, it could be interpreted as nonsensical jargon. However, these laws culminated from having a deep understanding of the nature of events and their casualties...

Striving to split his mind to observe two events occurring at a single time, Cain was operating on the bedrock of this law.

'Applying a limiter rune to the nexus of the magic circle will be a bad idea. However, if I maximize the output too much, my mana would end up drained in a few seconds. That might be a good idea for short-range bursts, but...'

As he was calculating and modifying with one part of his mind, he was also controlling the movement of the Astral Avatar.

He was observing two events occurring simultaneously. The mind, spirit, and soul were all interconnected in some way. This delicate balance was often pushed and fiddled with.

However, what Cain was doing right now was akin to pushing the boundary way too far...

His mind was being pushed to the absolute brink...

Suddenly, he felt a change...

'Crap!'

The pain and discomfort that affected his mind had given up a notch. It was as though his head was being compressed by a vice. Still, that wasn't enough for him to stop. On the contrary, it only increased his determination.

'I can't afford to stop now. I'm already there. I can feel it...' He was getting closer to his goal of breaking down and modifying {Wind Weaver}.

However, the world wasn't so merciful...

The pain spiked again, causing his focus to tremble. The moment it did, disaster struck. Blood suddenly erupted from his nose and eyes, painting a frightening picture.

Jenny who had been observing the battle and providing assistance when needed felt something amiss. Turning to Cain, her face turned pale as she observed the grotesque scene.

"C-cain!"

The body of the Astral Avatar suddenly flickered. It looked as though it would disappear from reality for a brief second before it stabilized once again...

"I'm fine..." Cain said hoarsely. Wiping the blood from his face, he kept his eyes closed.

'What happened just now?'

For a moment, a very brief moment, he felt as though he could see both the internal world of his consciousness and the void surrounding his physical body at the same time.

It was a strange feeling...

Splitting his consciousness between controlling the Astral Avatar and his subconsciousness was very uncomfortable. It was like observing two worlds overlapping with one another.

But for that brief moment, those worlds separated...

He observed and coordinated two events simultaneously...

'If I can just grasp onto that feeling...'

He cleared his mind. It took him only a moment to realize that the profound moment he had just experienced was going to be the key to getting out of this situation.

And so, he held onto it tightly...

{Eye of Clairvoyance} activated on its own all of a sudden...

Then, he could finally see it. His eyes snapped open...

He observed the mote of dust as it flew from side to side. However, he was not just observing it. Somehow, he could predict not only the flight path of the dust particle but also its momentum.

He was speechless, 'Why? How?'

He didn't know what this was, or why this was happening. It was as though his once singular mind had split into two parts that gave him the ability to observe these two things at once.

Suddenly the system's monotone voice resounded in his head,

{Congratulations to host... Your mind has ascended}.

{The host's mind has attained the state of duality that grants him the ability to split his consciousness to observe and process events, properties, and states simultaneously...}

{Congratulations to host... You have acquired the external active skill, Magic Eye: Eye of Uncertainty}.

Although he was confused, he was quick to snap out of it. He dismissed the system prompt from his face. He figured he could read through it later.

Joy filled him when he realized that the pain and discomfort that afflicted him vanished like snow under the scorching sun.

Instead, a sense of serenity and calm flowed through his brain. If he could see himself in the mirror, he would see that his left eye was completely white. However, his right eye no longer looked normal as well.

Instead, he no longer had one iris. Instead, he had two smaller ones that slowly orbited each other in the whites of his eyes. They were black and didn't give off any light or color at all.

It was very strange. However, he didn't think too much about it. Not only was the pain gone, but now, the power of his consciousness had increased greatly.

Previously, the speed at which he could process thoughts in his subconscious space was impressive. Now it was straight-up demonic. Not only that, but his understanding of magic circles, runes, and sigils seemed to have improved greatly, and he could now control the Astral Avatar exponentially better with less focus required.

In just a few seconds, he had completed the modification of {Wind Weaver}.

Letting out a steamy breath, Cain observed the battlefield with {Eye of Clairvoyance}.

'Will it work?'

Because magic was forcibly restricted in the Rift, Cain at first had been opposed to the idea, as he believed activating the spell would be impossible due to this restriction.

However, that would have been the case only if the spell was not active in the first place. As {Wind Weaver} was already active, all he needed to do was use the already existing magic circle as the base foundation to activate the new spell.

His fingers formed a hand seal as he muttered a chant under his breath,

"Wind Weaver: Storm Vortex."

The Astral Avatar had been surrounded by a powerful whirlwind all this time. However, it was not powerful enough to harm any of the {Abyssla Realm Walkers}. If anything, it just impeded their advances a little.

Suddenly, the rotation of this whirlwind increased. The wind became sharp and fierce. The Beastmen were filled with confusion as they were also pushed back by the wall of find that had suddenly appeared before them, cutting the fierce battle short.

"What's going on?" Floki said to Hunter as he threw the corpse of a headless Realm Walker away.

Hunter had a look of confusion on his face as well,

"I'm not sure... Looks like Cain is preparing something."

The confusion on his face quickly melted away,

"Tell the men to get back and regroup. Kill the Realm Walkers that are still on this side."

This unprecedented change brought about a huge shift in the battle. It stopped completely...

The whirlwind created by {Wind Weaver} had become much stronger than before. However, this change wasn't just volumetric. Instead, the flow of wind became sharper. A tremendous amount of magic was in the air, guiding the flow of wind around the Astral Avatar. The Beastmen and everyone involved in the fight were also forced to back up and move closer to the Astral Avatar.

Once Cain saw that the desired effect had been achieved, he nodded.

Susan stared at him with wide eyes,

"What's going on?"

He grinned, "I improved the spell."

She blinked rapidly, "Improved the spell?"

"Mhm... Hold on tight. This ride is going to be a rough and short one."

With that, the Astral Avatar that had been moving in a somewhat straightforward manner suddenly coiled its body.

Gasps of shock rang out as everyone was at a loss. Cain ignored them...

With a single thought, the Astral Avatar shot off like a nuclear warhead with a loud bang. Many {Abyssal Realm Walkers} were torn to shreds by the chaotic wind blades produced as the colossal serpentine creature ascended farther...

A glint appeared in Cain's strange eyes. The {Eye of Uncertainty} gave him the ability to process two things at once. It was as though he was seeing what would happen of he chose to take a certain course of action and if he didn't take that action at the same time.

Yet both perspectives didn't overlap with each other. This would have put a burden on any other person. However, his mind had also split in two as well. Now he could process both at the same time...

'Such a strange feeling... Perhaps it would come in handy in the future.'

Recalling what the system had said, he couldn't help but think to himself,

'This time, it didn't say Devil Eye. Instead, it said it was a magic eye. Is it similar to a Devil Eye or very different?"

Although he had questions, he wasn't going to ask them just yet...

Evangeline suddenly appeared on the back of the Astral Avatar. Her hair was disheveled, and there was blood all over her body. Despite that, her eyes burned fiercely,

"Hurry up! It's behind us."

Cain had never seen her lose her cool. Even now, she maintained a straight face. However, he could see clearly that she wanted them to leave as soon as possible.

Cain gave her a nod, then increased his concentration. The speed of the Astral Avatwr increased even more as the wind tunnel around it propelled it further.

The Beastmen held onto the chains like their lives depended on it...

And then suddenly, it was over. Cain saw a tiny hole of light appear in the distance. This whole continued to grow bigger and bigger as they drew nearer. Soon, he could see it. They had finally reached the end of the tunnel.

In a split second, they dashed into the light...
