“Er …… that, Bai Jing, don’t get discouraged.”
Jin Mao scratched his short hair, not knowing how to comfort him. The content of today’s lecture was indeed rather basic, even he could remember it.
Could it be that Bai Jing was really from the slums and had no higher education?
In the Interstellar world, almost everyone enjoyed the right to education, except for those in the slums.
Those who lived in the slums all had a genetic rank of D or below. They had little potential and were physically inferior, making it difficult for them to have a way out in the interstellar era where most labor had been replaced by robots, and they could only survive on the monthly subsidies given by the Empire.
There were officials in the higher echelons of the Empire who had tried to improve their situation, but they were rejected by other senior officials on the grounds that they were of no value to the Empire and that a monthly allowance was merciful enough.
The people in the slums and the slums itself had always been a forgotten corner, ignored by everyone and the people there left to fend for themselves where no one was looking.
But it was true, as those high-ups said,, that in all these years there had never been a single person from the slums who could bring great value to the Empire.
Jin Mao looked at Bai Jing. Others might not have looked at him closely because of his cheap clothes, however he was sitting right next to him so was naturally able to notice.
Bai Jing’s figure was somewhat thin but well-proportioned, his waist very thin, his legs long and straight under his black trousers, his ankles exposed under them slightly. His complexion was as fair as fine jade, and one could even see the green veins inside.
His small arms, which were visible through the T-shirt, were very white, covered in thin muscles, and had smooth and graceful lines, not at all like someone with a genetic rank of D.
If one were to look at his body alone, Jin Mao could almost conclude that Bai Jing was of the extremely handsome type, with near-perfect proportions.
Unfortunately, Bai Jing was wearing a pair of thick and old-fashioned black-rimmed glasses, which covered most of his face and made it impossible to see his features.
Jin Mao secretly thought that perhaps his looks were rather average or even …… otherwise who would use such a thing to block their face?
But he had the good sense not to ask more questions, nor did he dare to look. This was the decency he had.
“I’m not discouraged.” As Jin Mao’s thoughts drifted, Bai Jing answered calmly, without the slightest hint of discouragement on his face.
Not being able to answer the question was a fact, there was nothing to argue about. He put his notebook away, ready to go home and refresh his memory again to try and catch up sooner.
“I’ll see you tomorrow then!” The little fatty waved at Bai Jing’s departing figure.
Various kinds of hover cars were parked in the Gambling Guild’s air square, with streamlined bodies and stunning appearances that rivaled the supercars on Earth. The aristocratic teenagers got into their cars and sped away.
Just as Bai Jing was about to walk towards the hover car platform that was a few hundred meters away, an extremely cool hover car jerked to a stop directly in front of him.
The pure black body exuded the cold color of metal, noble and restrained, attracting the attention of those who hadn’t yet left as they stopped to look.
The automatic door slowly opened from above, revealing the handsome side of Qiao An’s face: “Let’s go, Young Master Gu asked me to come pick you up.”
“Alright.” Bai Jing propped his left arm on the edge of the body and stepped into the car with a light movement, the whole body didn’t sway a bit.
The black hover car started up then rose from the ground at breakneck speed, shooting straight up into the sky, leaving behind only a black stream of light.
Two minutes later, the cool vehicle pulled up at the side entrance of the Gu Group’s Gambling House.
Bai Jing took a few deep breaths to alleviate the slight dizziness caused by the high speed then followed Qiao An to the familiar private room.
Qiao An performed an iris and genetic scan for identification then knocked twice at the door and whispered, “Young Master Gu, it’s me – Qiao An.”
The door opened from the inside and Bai Jing entered the private room to see a tall man in a black military uniform, standing by the wall with his back to him.
The man was tall, roughly estimated to be 5’9″, the straight and slim black military uniform he had on outlining his perfect figure, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist. One could clearly see the tight muscular outline and smooth lines, full of power.
Beneath the tight black leather belt were long legs, and the hem of his military trousers were tucked into shiny black leather boots, giving him a sense of ascetic beauty.
Even to Bai Jing, who was a man himself, Gu Yuanzhao was extremely attractive. What’s more, his senses told him that every muscle in this man’s body contained explosive power; it was the most perfect body.
When he saw the two of them, Gu Yuanzhao turned around and leaned into the leather seat, his hands resting casually on the sides of the armrests, his long legs crossed. His deep gaze sweeping over Bai Jing, he asked, “Has the genetic decay been cured completely?”
Bai Jing nodded: “Yes, thanks to the genetic fluid you provided.”
Gu Yuanzhao couldn’t help but smile: “Is it necessary to be so polite with me? We are partners now, you can trust me a little more.”
Bai Jing lowered his eyes. He used to have a carefree, cheerful and frank personality too, it was just that after experiencing the end times, the sense of crisis of constantly being on the verge of life and death and the betrayal of his teammates, it was difficult for him to trust others the way he used to.
He had been trying to change lately, but …… was currently unable to do so.
Gu Yuanzhao didn’t force the subject: “How did you feel on your first day of training?”
Bai Jing: “It was good, but my foundation is very weak so I need to learn from scratch.”
Gu Yuan Chao thought for a moment then looked at Qiao An who was standing straight at the side, “Tell the Minister of Information to compile everything he has on all the planets’ rough stones used for gambling and bring it as soon as possible.”
“Yes.” Qiao An bowed, then answered.
It was only as he turned to leave, that he couldn’t hide the amazement in his eyes: he hadn’t expected that Young Master Gu would care about such trivial matters. He was really quite unusual with this teenager.
Soon, Qiao An handed a small black box to Bai Jing. Inside was a transparent chip only the size of a thumb, which contained the most comprehensive information on all the rough stones used for gambling in the entire empire.
