''Why? '' The question this time came from Sami. His condition was no different from the others.
Dan paused and observed the nine individuals surrounding him, who appeared worn out and exhausted. His eyes had a different expression than before. It was as if drowning his head in water opened his eyes to something. He had undergone mental changes as a result of repeatedly facing death.
''We need to show him how willing we are. We must also show that we are the people who will be useful to him.'' Dan made a firm statement.
''Useful for what?'' Sami asked again, puzzled.
''Think about it: just when we need help the most, an Item Holder appears and decides to assist us. Who among you would be able to believe me if I told you this story if it weren't happening in front of your eyes? '' The tone of Dan's speech was grave.
In response to Dan's query, everyone remained silent. What he said was true. Everyone present understood that the person who was their enemy was also an item holder and that they would only interact with common people like them if they had something to gain from it.
''We are not like common city dwellers, to put it mildly. Here, we are the outcasts of society. '' Dan took in his surroundings. Everyone, including the young, the old, and those with disabilities, was standing and listening to what he had to say.
Dan continued after taking a deep breath. ''Even the enemy we're currently facing is an Item Holder. He abducted our countless friends and family members solely for his own research, used them as subjects in his experiments, and then mercilessly murdered them.
We who reside in the slums are the ones who are most familiar with the dark side of the Item Holders. However, we have chosen to entrust our lives to an Item Holder in order to combat our enemy, another Item Holder. Can you tell me why? Why did we place so much faith in him and his words? ''
Dan took another look at everyone's bewildered faces. Everything he said was entirely accurate. Why did they have such faith in Raydon? Like their enemies, he was an Item Holder of great power. Unless he had a genuine interest in them, why would he have offered to help?
''I will tell you why. '' Dan said with a smile.
"Because you thought he was one of us, someone who sits at the table with us and says it tastes good while munching on the mediocre food we cooked in this shithole with a smile on his face. Even if you weren't aware of it at the time, you could tell he was looking at us with a sense of longing and loneliness.
Now, tell me why this immortal, who has the ability to send storms when he is sad and earthquakes when he is angry, wants to help us. '' Dan raised his voice as he spoke his final words. In addition to being angry, his face also displayed sadness and respect.
''Out of sympathy for us? Do you think he lived a life similar to ours? '' Karan inquired, his voice shaking. He had noticed it himself, but wasn't sure until Dan mentioned it.
''Definitely. In fact, I believe he grew up in the slums like us. He probably has experienced difficult times similar to ours or even more so than we have, so I have no doubt that he is aware of what this dark world is like. Because of this, we must demonstrate our willingness to assist him when he asks us for assistance. We should fight just as he likely did in the past and not let his efforts go to waste. '' Dan gasped, paused, and then spoke in a more solemn tone, yelling like a politician.
''Additionally, if my reasoning is correct, he is waging war on the dark side of other item holders, which is another reason why he is assisting us in our fight against that item holder. Therefore, we should work to help him and be of service to him so that we can aid him in his struggle. '' By the time Dan finished his speech, he was already out of breath.
He seemed to be the master of exaggeration, even surpassing Fatty Sami. If Raydon had been present, he would not have been able to hide his surprise at hearing this.
Surprisingly, the looks on everyone's faces as they listened to Dan revealed shock, sadness, pity, and admiration. Even some of the older ones started crying.
''Oh, but he appears to be so young. What has he been through up until now? '' One of the aunts said as she wiped her tears away.
''So that's what it was all about. I also thought this was odd. What a brave, kind, and determined young man. '' With his eyes wide open, a crippled man spoke.
''Uuuuhhuhuh, What struggles has Brother Raydon faced? Who knows what he endured while we were living here in peace while he was going through hell? '' Fatty Sami got on his knees and began sobbing dramatically.
''I knew it !!! At first glance, I could tell it from his eyes. He will undoubtedly be the one to drive out these shadows and restore the light in this place. Quickly untie me and let me drown. I must become stronger as well so that I can help that brave young man fight. '' The senile old man hopped over to Dan in the chair, to which he was tied with ropes. As he yelled, saliva and a tooth were seen flying from his mouth.
In an instant, everyone's mistrust of Raydon had vanished. In the short time they had spent listening to Dan's speech, it was as if they had made up their minds to even give their lives for Raydon if he ever asked.
Raydon would have been astounded if he had been present to witness what had occurred. He had no idea his manipulation skills had advanced to this level.
