Defending against the 6th wave onward wasn't easy, even for professional teams. Large mutated cockroaches began to appear in the horde.
However, the players somehow felt that the wave was easier now. They knew the reason very well and rejoiced. Confidence sprung forth. Many thought they could easily survive until the 8th wave with this.
That feeling wasn't just from mere confidence. It was from their experience as players who had already played this game for over a year. Their dedication allowed them to know that they would pull this off.
"All teams survived the 6th wave easily, save for the GorillaXX team. Their walls were almost breached, but they fortunately were able to recover. They have to replenish their supply quickly or they won't survive the next wave!"
Because the GorillaXX was the only team that risked themselves to get the wave boss, the sixth wave proved to be a challenge for them. It was truly unfortunate. If they had only focused on supplying magazines and grenades, they would have had an easier time.
However, they managed to hold on and resupply. Their depleted ammo was soon replenished, although not as much as other teams.

"Get as many grenades as possible! Prepare a healing pod too. The 7th wave will have them. Flying cockroaches!"
Everyone's nightmare. When the black, shiny bugs began to fly, that was when hell descended.
"We need live grenades for large mutated cockroaches. Make sure to get as much as possible and throw it to their face! Sniper, focus on those large cockroaches. It's effective against them, as proved in the Scrim a week ago!"
Sniper rifle might be bad for most teams because it was too heavy and not too useful in the first few waves. However, the meta had changed. Teams who said that sniper rifles were bad earlier now were grateful they had one.
The OrangeSquash team had destroyed any common sense and created a new meta. Sniper rifles were now a necessary weapon to bring in each team.
Before long, the 7th wave arrived. The horde arrived.
In OrangeSquash's base, the atmosphere wasn't as tense as any other. Their points were already enough to advance to the next match. They just had to survive this wave for an extra 1000 survival points and the freebie annihilation points from those cockroaches.
"Shall we play then?" Max used his grappling gun to drop outside the base and plunged himself into the horde. "Lily, cover me!"
"Un, leave it to me."
The rampage continued. Max returned to the base once he finished his fifth magazine. He resupplied and engaged in the fight once again. His presence below the base slowed the horde down.
Everyone knew about this trick, but it wasn't practiced because it was dangerous. Unless one was so skilled with their movement, doing this kind of stunt was essentially a suicide.
"Just a bit more!" Flexy informed from above as he reloaded his MG. "Fuck you, DizzyTop, TipsyCar, and Flatheadman. Eat my ass! Hahaha, we advance to the final!"
With the last explosion from Lily's sniper, the last mutated cockroach was killed and the 7th wave was annihilated.
The ticket to the grand final tonight was in their pocket. They didn't need to try hard anymore. Max cheered as he ran around, shooting his SMG to the sky.
"Hell yeah! I will win this time!"
Nothing needed to be done. Even if they were eliminated now, they still advanced. 15K total points weren't something to scoff at, and that 5K was purely from killing enemies and the first four wave boss.
So, what was left?
The answer was simple.
"Hey, Flexy."
Just as Max landed on the wall, he called out to his friend and tapped his shoulder.
"Can we have fun now?"
Competition or not, the game was a game. The essence of playing a game was to have fun.
Just following strategy wasn't fun, that was why Max asked Flexy to promise him something. When the plan succeeded, the orange-haired streamer would allow him to do anything he pleased. Flexy agreed easily as he trusted him.
"Sure." He nodded at his buddy and extended his hand. "It will be good if you can kill the 7th wave boss while you're at it."
"Hahaha, I will try." Max bumped his fist against Flexy's and laughed.
And thus, he discarded all knowledge he knew about this game and trusted his instinct to have fun.
