Chapter 22: The Dean’s Warning

Zhao Qiang went on to say, “It’s true. If she wasn’t there that night, Lin Xinyu would not stop you and prevent you from seeing us.”

“Zhao Qiang, you don’t have to speak to prove to everyone that you’re not mute,” Lin Xin couldn’t help but scold him anxiously so he could hurry and shut his mouth.

Upon hearing her words, Zhao Qiang had no idea what he had said wrong. In fact, he just wanted the Dean to pay attention to him, but now, it seems that he mentioned something he shouldn’t have. What should he do?

At this time, the Dean smiled more eagerly. His eyes fell on Zhao Qiang and said, “I didn’t expect Lin Xinyu and Lin Xin to have such a good relationship.”

Zhao Qiang still lacked brains; he nodded doubtfully, then secretly glanced at the shorter Lin Xin, but this time, he didn’t dare to say a word.

The Dean began to scrutinize this unattractive little girl, thinking that she wasn’t as simple as she looked.

He laughed and said, “Since the ground has been loosened, your tasks are finished. You are dismissed, but Lin Xin must stay since I have something more to say to her.”

“Oh.” Lin Xin softly replied. She stood quietly and waited for the Dean’s scolding.

Zhao Qiang felt that something was wrong with the situation. He walked a few meters away, but after deliberating, he quickly ran back to her side and said, “I’ll wait for you at the back door. Let’s go to dinner together.”

Lin Xin smiled at him reassuringly. He thought that if she could smile like this, there should be no issues. What else could possibly go wrong? Zhao Qiang happily went his way towards the orphanage.

When the Dean saw that the boy had gone far enough, he took his glasses and wiped it using the corner of his shirt. As he slowly rubbed it, he asked Lin Xin meaningfully, “So Xinyu likes you very much?”

The Dean’s eyes narrowed in hostility as he stared at Lin Xin.

She calmly replied, “It seems to be the case.”

“Oh, then you should stay away from him from now on.” The man put on his glasses and returned to his usual gentle manner. “You are a smart girl. I don’t have to tell you the consequences.”

Lin Xin continued to say, “Dean, I know that I should stay away from Lin Xinyu, but he always wants to follow me around. I chased him away before but he still refused to stay away.”

“Then continue to drive him away each time.”

Lin Xin showed a panicked expression, “But, how else can I get rid of him?”

The Dean simply replied, “Then you leave the orphanage.”

Lin Xin shivered at his cold words. She refused to look at him in the eye as she said, “I know.”

“As long as you know.” Afterwards, the Dean didn’t say anymore. He turned around and went to the orphanage’s backdoor.

Lin Xin’s back was drenched in sweat. She fell to the ground and gasped for breath as she tried to steady herself. The Dean was much more threatening than she imagined. In fact, it appears that things weren’t as simple as she initially thought. Having seen the darkness that shrouded his eyes, who knew if he would do something unreasonable? A madman’s thinking could only be terrible.

Lin Xin rested for a while before she regained some strength. She took her iron shovel and dragged it back to the orphanage until she reached the backyard. When she opened the door, she saw Zhao Qiang sitting on the ground, waiting for her.

Lin Xin’s heart immediately filled with warmth and she said in a friendly tone, “Hey, it’s time for dinner. Why are you still sitting here.”

When Zhao Qiang noticed her good mood, he sighed with relief. “Hey, when the Dean came this way, his expression was so scary. He didn’t even respond when I called out to him, so I thought that you said something to anger him. That’s why didn’t dare to go back and call you; I thought you would easily lose your temper.”

Lin Xin smiled and replied, “Zhao Qiang, I think the Dean can’t remember your appearance, so every time you’re there, he ends up ignoring you.”

This sentence hit Zhao Qiang’s sensitive spot. Which child would not want their parent’s attention? In this case, the role of parents was naturally replaced by the Dean. Every time, Zhao Qiang wanted to catch the Dean’s attention, but he only had eyes for Lin Xinyu.
