Chapter 50: Lin Xinyu’s Secret
Lin Xinyu was afraid that she would really become a completely different person. He feared that she was no longer the Lin Xin he knew. The fact that she would not be the same person who had coldly turned him away in the past actually worried him more than anyone else.
Lin Xinyu shrank back and cautiously observed the girl to see if she was still the same girl.
He had a secret that no one else knew. Lin Xin’s current soul was someone else; he noticed that she had completely changed ever since her illness. Wu Anan and all the other orphans thought she had forgotten all of her past memories, but only he knew that she was no longer the same ‘Lin Xin’ as the one in the past. He alone understood the likes and dislikes of everyone within the orphanage. The former Lin Xin never ate green onions, and yet the current Lin Xin could eat a bowlful of rice mixed with green onions.
How can a person’s habits change because of memory loss?
“You’ve woken up?” The crisp voice of the young master interrupted Lin Xinyu’s thinking.
The girl’s glowing smile soon disappeared like an illusion. She watched the young master with vigilance, then slipped into the quilt as if finding a safe place to hide.
The teenager was quite surprised at her reaction. He squinted at the girl in bed and asked, “How were you able to cut off that man’s XXX?” His tone seemed to be implying, ‘what wrong medicine did you take today to act so strange?’ He never gave any thought if his words could hurt her feelings.
The young man didn’t realize what was ‘strange’ about her behavior until after he spoke. From the beginning, it seems that he never regarded her as a child, but as someone whom he could speak with eye to eye. Lin Xin’s intelligence and maturity, as well as her self confidence made him feel as if she wasn’t someone to easily give in. Even if someone broke her bones, she would not be depressed. However, although someone can lie with their behavior, how can the kiss marks on her skin be false? Could she actually be in pain?
But after seeing her smile like the sunrise, he recognized another incongruity. The young man wanted to know what thoughts were going through her mind, so he couldn’t help but speak out.
Xiao Tian’s observing eyes were sharp as an eagle’s. Lin Xin’s heart was in turmoil as she hurriedly hid underneath the quilt. Since she wasn’t a good actress, that best she could do was hide and mutter to herself; it’s too late to pretend to be stupid or burst into tears. She shouldn’t have celebrated her victory so early. Now what?
In Lin Xinyu’s eyes, believed the girl hid because her feelings were hurt. In his mind, Lin Xin was someone who was fearless about everything.
Lin Xinyu suddenly stood up and slammed against the teenager with his small body. Being caught unprepared, the young master fell back two steps then landed on the ground.
The small boy yelled at the teenager angrily, “What did you ask her? Do you dare to say it again?”
Earlier, the young man simply felt that something was off about the girl, so he didn’t take into account Lin Xin’s feelings when he asked that question. He understood that a sexual assault would leave behind a psychological scar for the victim, but he didn’t understand the traumatic pain behind such an experience.
What surprised him even more was that a weak boy could actually push him down!
The teenager sat up and raised his chin as he demanded, “Who are you to her? Since you left her in my care, your relationship with her at this point is meaningless! I’ll be taking her away tomorrow, so regardless of your complaints, I have the final say.”
Lin Xinyu only now realized this problem. A few hours ago, he gave the young master his blessing, hoping that he could grant Lin Xin a new life from now on. In just a few hours, he became unwilling to let her go. This mindset was quite a big change for him.
Lin Xinyu didn’t know how to refute the young master’s words and could only remain silent.
Seeing that the boy’s face had turned pale, the young master smiled triumphantly.
