Chapter 75: To See You

T/N: You’re in for a surprise!

As soon as Lin Xin and Lin Xinyu got off the car, they saw Cheng Qingrong pacing back and forth.

She paused as she thought about how to explain things to him. Lin Xinyu stepped forward and called out, “Father!”

Cheng Qingrong turned his head to see his two children walking towards him. He rushed forward, shouting, “Why did you skip school? Why did you come back so late? Didn’t you think your father would worry?”

For the first half of the year, Cheng Qingrong was still wary of Lin Xin. He didn’t know when it started but Cheng Qingrong wasn’t afraid of Lin Xin anymore.

He would rebuke her when he saw she had done something wrong, fearing she would grow wayward if he didn’t teach her a lesson.

When faced with Cheng Qingrong’s endless nagging, Lin Xin would usually stare at him indifferently, rub her ears then leave, never taking his words seriously…

Whereas each time he finished his lecture, Lin Xinyu very dearly called him “Father” and he, always pleased, said, “Xiao Yu is still the best.”

He wasn’t afraid that Lin Xin’s young heart would assume he valued sons over daughters.

With his hands behind his back, Cheng Qingrong spoke, “If you don’t explain clearly why you two skipped class today, both of you will be standing out here for the rest of the night!”

Lin Xin gave Lin Xinyu a meaningful look.

“How about Mom? Is she alone now? Won’t she be scared?”

Cheng Qingrong patted his head and said, “Hui Hui is still waiting for you. Have you eaten?”

“I haven’t.”

“Despite skipping class and leaving school premises, neither of you ate? What were you two thinking? Next time you are out so late, make sure you eat first before returning ah!”

Lin Xin and Lin Xinyu smiled knowingly at each other and followed him upstairs.

Aunt Hui hadn’t slept yet. She was watching TV in the living room.

The past two years, she rarely got sick and didn’t need to use wheelchairs anymore. She would wait for Lin Xin and Lin Xinyu to come back before moving on to finish her chores.

At the sound of the door opening, she rose to greet them. Seeing that both kids were safe and sound, she heaved a sigh of relief and said, “Don’t be late next time. Come, come, come, let’s eat.”

The food on the table had already cooled. Lin Xinyu helped Aunt Hui heat it up. Lin Xin wanted to help out but Lin Xinyu stopped her, saying, “Just wait for me to come back with our food.”

God knows what she was thinking – stuffing volumes of seasoning into a dish and elegantly claiming it’s innovation!

After tasting her ‘innovations’ once, Lin Xinyu didn’t dare let her enter the kitchen again.

While the two of them ate, Aunt Hui urged Cheng Qingrong to wash up.

Taking advantage of Cheng Qingrong’s absence, Lin Xin slipped into her room, where she refused to leave even if the world collapsed.

However, Lin Xinyu wanted to see Lin Xin again before he slept, so he secretly knocked on her door, “Lin Xin, Lin Xin…”

Lin Xin opened the door and stuck her head out. When she did not see Cheng Qingrong’s figure, she quickly pulled Lin Xinyu in and asked, “What the matter?”

Lin Xin had changed into pajamas. She wore a white cotton nightdress with small flowers in the bottom. She had lantern sleeves and a round, low-cut, lace collar, revealing a beautiful collarbone and a neck as slender as a swan’s.

Lin Xinyu looked at her neck and recalled the fragrance he had smelled on her this afternoon. His heart surged again, beating quicker, and his mouth became dry. He was afraid Lin Xin would see through him so, lowering his head, he hurriedly left the room after saying, “Well, I just wanted to see you before I slept.”

Lin Xin wondered what was wrong with this child, but didn’t think too much about it and went back to sleep.

It was night.

He couldn’t see.

Lin Xinyu kept running in the darkness, not being able to find a way out. Suddenly, a ray of light appeared in front of him. Within that light, he found a frail-looking girl lying on a bed. Her head was lowered to hide her tears. Lin Xinyu approached her and asked, “Why are you crying?”

She raised her head and looked at him. With her small face, dainty nose, and tiny mouth, she looked at him in discomfort.

“My body hurts.”

He quickly squatted down and inquired, “Where does it hurt? Where is it painful? Let me see.”

The sheets on her body slid down and revealed her slender neck. Beneath them were a shocking amount of kiss marks. He took her into his arms and kissed every red mark on her body.

“Don’t cry, I’m here. With me here, you don’t need to cry anymore. Alright?”

“En.”

The next moment, the white bedsheets were rolled up into a ball and fell to the ground, as waves after waves crashed and extinguished the last bit of light.
