Chapter 89: I Like You

Lin Xin rushed to the local police station. Just as she was about to file a report, her phone screen lit up, displaying an incoming call from Lin Xinyu.

“Lin Xin, I accidentally tripped and fell. My phone’s battery popped out, it took forever to get the thing back in again.”

Lin Xin could finally sigh in relief.

“Don’t casually turn your phone off in the future. It worries me, especially since the condition of your heart isn’t stable…”

The policeman waiting on the other side of the window asked, “Do you still need us to report this case?”

“I’m sorry. There’s no need. Thank you, and sorry about that.” Lin Xin smiled, embarrassed, at him.

“Are you in the police station? I’ll head over to find you there.”

Lin Xin wanted to tell him that he didn’t need to come to the police station, but then she thought, If he wants to come over, let him.

She gave him the police station’s address, and told him to take a taxi instead of a bus, to be careful on the way…

They chatted a while before he ended the call.

Within half an hour, Lin Xinyu arrived at the police station where Lin Xin waited.

The office that Lin Xin rented wasn’t far from her home. She only took a few minutes to walk to work.

This police station here was even closer to home, so neither of them felt the need for a taxi. They merely walked home.

A little rain had just fallen, so the air smelled crisp and clean.

They strolled up the bridge, one after the other, as usual.

Many pedestrians walked below them, while they stood at the end of the bridge to gaze into the distance. Further out, the end of the road disappeared into the horizon until only a single row of lights remained visible.

Lin Xin stopped and sighed, “Aiya! The world hasn’t changed…”

A couple walked in their direction, hand-in-hand.

The girl leaned her head on the boy’s arm. They chatted and laughed happily.

Seeing this, Lin Xinyu took a large step forward to stand side-by-side next to Lin Xin.

He had grown taller again, towering over Lin Xin by two heads. Now that he stood next to her, he suddenly blocked half of the light that originally shone on Lin Xin.

She wasn’t used to being ‘overshadowed’…

Raising her head and sizing up the boy two heads taller than her, Lin Xin pondered, If he grows any taller, our heights might start being inversely proportional. Then, contemplating her never-changing body, she worried… how long did she have?

She couldn’t help but feel crestfallen.

Lin Xinyu inched closer to her and touched her arm. She wore an ordinary, cotton, short-sleeved t-shirt.

The moment his skin touched hers, he shuddered. Then, he held her hand.

Blankly, Lin Xin looked at him, still interpreting why he grasped her hand so tightly.

Lin Xinyu placed one hand on her waist and pulled her into his arms. Her head fell against his chest.

He heard his heart beating. The rhythm had no pattern.

Similar to the rhythm of a child who had just learned to play the drums, it resembled a flurry of knocks.

His heart jumped as he uttered, “Lin Xin, I like you.”
