Chapter 119: You and I
T/N: Hi Guys! Not only is it Valentine’s Day, but it’s also Helen’s (Early Bird) birthday! Happy birthday, gal! Edit – it was Valentine’s. Wow. So far, yet so close~
The most important thing people in business pay attention to is establishing relationship networks. Wang Changding saw Lin Xinyu take the initiative to make good, of course, he would not refuse such an opportunity. Before Lin Xin could rebuff him, he said, “Well, thank you.”
It is not a big deal to take his car home. No matter what his intentions are, with Wang Changding around, he naturally would not make any moves, thought Lin Xin.
With Wang Changding’s assistance, Lin Xin got into the car. Wang Changding was about to sit in the back with her but realized it would make Lin Xinyu look like a driver. He felt it would be very impolite and sat in the front passenger seat.
Once Lin Xin sat down and fastened her seat belt, Lin Xinyu started the car, driving at a steady pace. They had not driven for long in silence when Wang Changding’s wandering eyes spotted two concert tickets sitting on the dashboard. On a closer look, he found the picture printed on the ticket was of an old singer.
He asked, “Mr. Lin likes xxx’s songs too?”
Lin Xinyu said, “They’re not bad.”
Wang Changding said, “My fiancée likes it, too.” His fiancée was naturally the one sitting in the back seat right now.
Lin Xin was not used to the title yet. Suddenly hearing Wang Changding say the word, her gaze subconsciously fell on the ring on her finger. Only then did it dawn upon her that Wang Changding was talking about her.
Lin Xinyu tapped his index finger on the steering wheel.
“I don’t know which family’s Miss is Mr. Wang’s fiancée?”
Wang Changding turned to look behind him and smiled at Lin Xin.
“She’s right behind you.”
Through the rearview mirror, Lin Xinyu looked at Lin Xin. His gaze slowly went down from her face to her hand, lingering when he reached the diamond ring sitting on her finger. He narrowed his eyes slightly.
“Mr. Wang is so lucky,” said Lin Xinyu. “Miss Lin is very beautiful.”
Hearing his fiancée being praised, Wang Changding looked towards Lin Xin and smiled. Their gazes met. Lin Xin returned a smile.
Screech!
The sudden slamming of brakes quickly thrust the three forwards. Lin Xin had fastened her seat belt, saving her from danger. Unscathed, she adjusted herself and sat back. However, the same couldn’t be said of Wang Changding who was not wearing a seatbelt. He hit his head on the windshield, the spot instantly swelling up.
Lin Xinyu’s words of concern drifted slowly and lightly.
“Just now a cat rushed out. Is Mr. Wang all right?”
Wang Changding shook his head. He only felt some blots in his vision. He closed his eyes, shook his head and said, “It’s all right, it’s all right.”
Lin Xin hurriedly asked, “Would you like to go see a doctor?”
Lin Xinyu went on to say, “I think it is better to go to the hospital. Although a bump in the head is no big deal, it is no trivial matter either. I’ll take you to the hospital. ”
Wang Changding, who was feeling uncomfortable, nodded in assent. “Let’s go to the hospital.”
Lin Xinyu turned the car in the direction of the nearest hospital. Lin Xin accompanied Wang Changding into the emergency room and got a brain CT scan done. Although the doctor found nothing serious, he still had to be kept under observation for a few hours in the hospital.
Lin Xin was in poor health. Now that she knew he was all right, there was no point in staying with him. If she left any later, it would be dark and not as safe to take a taxi. She didn’t want to bother Lin Shuhao to pick her up, so the only option she had was Lin Xinyu.
As for the man himself, from driving to the hospital, to registration and payment, all was handled by Lin Xinyu. Lin Xin did not bother following Wang Changding all the way. Wang Changding told her he’d thank Lin Xinyu well after he was discharged from the hospital.
Lin Xin was no fool. Of course, she knew what Lin Xinyu was up to. As soon as she got into his car, she asked bluntly, “Does Mr. Lin like me?”
Lin Xinyu stilled and accidentally stepped on full throttle. He almost ran into a passer-by. Fortunately, he was someone with very good driving skills. That is, apart from being scolded by a few passers-by for rash driving and getting cursed at, things were fine.
Such a reaction was beyond Lin Xin’s expectation. She took a moment and thought things through, carefully reassessing the whole situation. Had he recognized her? Or was he scared? Whatever it was, she needed to be clear about it.
Lin Xinyu pulled over to the side, looked at Lin Xin in the rearview mirror and asked, “What makes you think so? I have a girlfriend.”
“What do you think I should think? You come to my door early in the morning with cookies. In the evening, I meet you like this again. With your kind of money, you shouldn’t be this courteous to my fiancé. Don’t tell me you fancy my fiancé? ”
Lin Xinyu smiled.
“I am a kind and charitable man.”
“I hope so,” Lin Xin said. She hunched over and stretched out her right hand with the bright diamond ring and waved in front of Lin Xinyu’s eyes.
“See? I’m getting married. You don’t have to worry about it. You and I can’t.”
Lin Xinyu stared at her white jade-like hand. Then, he suddenly grabbed it and held it tightly in his palm. Lin Xin tugged back hard but could not pull it anyway. He let go of her hand but took her by the wrist. Sliding inch by inch from her wrist, he moved to the finger with the ring. Finally, his finger stayed on the diamond ring; flicking it twice with his index and middle fingers. Then he squeezed the diamond ring tightly, before loosening his grip.
“Master Wang’s taste is really bad.”
There was once a time when Lin Xin was able to guess Lin Xinyu’s thoughts, but now… now she had no idea as to what could be brewing in that mind of his. She wrested herself free from his grasp and looked down — five fingers were imprinted on her fair wrist.
Lin Xinyu saw it too. He got out of the car and closed the door. Lin Xin did not know where he was going. She opened the door, wanting to get out, only to find herself locked in the car. She didn’t know what Lin Xinyu was up to, but there was one thing she was certain of — he wouldn’t hurt her. Now, she had to wait for him to come back.
After a while, Lin Xinyu came back with a bottle of medicine in hand. He went straight to the back seat. He couldn’t help but pull up Lin Xin’s arm and apply medicine to the bruised area. He started lightly, rubbed it twice more, and still wanted to rub it.
Alarmed, Lin Xin kicked him in the stomach. “What are you doing?”
Lin Xinyu frowned, looked up and said, “Applying medicine. I didn’t know you were so vulnerable.” Propping his hand on the seat, he leaned half a meter forward, half his body pressed against Lin Xin, then he vaguely asked, “What do you think I want to do?”
The scent unique to men wafted to her face. Lin Xin drew back a little, hitting the door. Lin Xinyu followed her, moving forward until he pressed down on Lin Xin’s whole body. Then he pressed down a little more, trapping Lin Xin so that she couldn’t move. Lin Xin tried to open the door but found that it was locked.
She silently mourned for her innocence. At this time, the young man who did whatever it took to achieve his goal, was no longer the one she knew. Ten years later, she had no idea what he was like. She was naive to think he wouldn’t hurt her.
Lin Xin looked at him nervously, fearing that he would do something out of line.
