Chapter 46 - He May Kill You

Halia placed a piece of paper on the table that was between her and Sean; it was the paper that Jackson had given her. Written on it, was an address.

"Jackson told me to go here tomorrow," Halia explained.

"It's a karaoke bar," Sean said as he read the paper.

Halia nodded.

"I have a feeling that he might be meeting Remy Durand there. Should we raid the karaoke bar tomorrow?" Halia asked.

"We need to make sure that he's meeting Remy Durand and that they are actually doing something illegal. Otherwise, we can't do anything," Sean explained.

Halia frowned, she then suggested, "In that case, I'll follow along and keep an eye on the situation. If it's playing out the way that we expect. I'll immediately contact you."

"I will have a team parked outside. We will wait for your call," Sean agreed with a nod.

Halia took a sip of her tea and sighed.

"What's wrong?" Sean asked.

"I discovered something else when I was following Jackson yesterday."

Sean sat back and listened patiently.

"Even though it doesn't seem like he has a motive, I still think Jackson is involved with Marcus' death," Halia explained.

She then recalled everything that happened at the strip club the previous day and revealed that Jackson was injured on the night of Marcus' death.

Sean shook his head and ate another chestnut. He then pulled out some doc.u.ments from his briefcase.

"I actually called you today to share some information I was recently notified about."

Halia looked down and saw a police profile. On the top right corner, there was a photo of a man in his late 20's. The photo looked fairly old, but for some reason, the man looked familiar.

She then scanned her eyes across the man's details and her eyes froze when she saw his name. "Marcus Chin?" she queried.

Sean nodded, "This is officer Marcus Chin; an undercover policeman from the anti-corruption bureau. As you can see from his worn profile, it's been a long time since he last identified himself as an officer."

"Marcus was actually placed into the gangs 12 years ago. As a part of the anti-corruption bureau, he's had an ongoing mission to uncover any police that are colluding with the gangs."

"We suspect his cover may have been compromised. According to what you've discovered, there is a big possibility that Jackson discovered his identity and killed him. That gives him a motive."

Halia's eyes opened wide in shock.

"So, you need to be extra careful from now on. If he discovers who you are...he may kill you too..."

Sean then pulled out a little hairpin, "This is a tracker. Take this with you tomorrow in case anything happens."

...

As though he had heard Halia and Sean's conversation, Jackson walked into his mysterious study room at that time and grabbed a gun off the shelf of his wall.

He loaded it up and placed it on his desk.

He then looked at the three screens on his desk and made a phone call, "I am going alone tomorrow. The three of you stay at the karaoke bar. I am bringing Halia there tomorrow. Make sure she doesn't leave."

...

The next day, Halia arrived at the karaoke bar that Jackson wrote down for her. It was only 5pm, so the place was pretty empty. As soon as she walked in, a woman in a white collared shirt and black pants asked, "Are you Miss Feng?"

Halia nodded.

The lady gestured for her to follow and Halia did as told.

The karaoke bar was a lot bigger than it appeared from the outside. As it was underground, it was hard to tell how big it was from ground level.

The place was dark and it was lit by dim lighting. Halia followed the woman down one corridor after another as muffled music echoed from the rooms that they walked past. Down here, the karaoke bar felt like a world of its own. Halia had no idea what was happening in the outside world, and the outside world had no idea what was happening in there. Finally, they stopped outside a room that was labeled 'VVIP'.

"Mr. Wu's waiting inside," the woman said.

Halia nodded and walked into the room. Sitting inside, was Jackson and his three men.

"Lock the door behind you," Jackson instructed.

Halia immediately did as told.

She then watched as Jackson picked up the remote for the karaoke machine and typed in a ten-digit number.

As soon as he pressed enter, one of the walls grumbled and slid upwards, revealing a stairwell.

"Follow me," Jackson said.

Halia looked down at the stairwell; the karaoke bar was already underground, but they were going further down. What was down there? Was it safe? Halia took a deep breath and adjusted her hair clip. She then glanced down at her phone as she started walking down the stairs.

There was no phone signal...
