When Jackson heard Trisha refer to him as 'Captain Wu', he knew she wasn't simply calling him as a friend. It had to be something serious. But, why was she calling him when he had already retired from the force?
"7 months ago, when we raided the base in Mongolia, there was something that I didn't tell you and Halia about the case," Trisha confessed.
Jackson listened quietly without saying a word as Trisha began to explain the purpose of her call.
"I knew you were retired and I knew you didn't want Halia to get involved with crime-fighting while she's pregnant, so there were some details that I kept from you..." Trisha continued.
"Back when we raided the lab notes and questioned Dr. Li and Dr. Ren, they actually confessed that they had shared some of their research with the doctors/scientists at the base..."
When Jackson heard this, his eyes widened in shock. Trisha had simply told them that the doctors were rescued but she never mentioned that they had shared any of their technology. This was a serious problem. If The Organization got a hold of the Brain Tap technology, who knew what they would do with it.
Trisha waited for a response but didn't hear one, so she continued, "At that time, they didn't know if we were coming for them and they were worried about the safety of their families, so they had no choice. However, they explained that they had only revealed the foundation of their studies before they were saved and thought the risk of The Organization figuring out the rest was low. We were hopeful that that was the case too. Until, last night..."
Trisha cleared her throat and paused for a bit.
"What happened last night?" Jackson asked. He could tell that Trisha had bad news.
"There was an attempted prison break..." Trisha said quietly. "Boginya tried to escape..."
"How?" Jackson furrowed his brows.
"It was an elaborate plan that they must have worked on for the last 7 months. They deliberately got two of their people arrested last month, had them admitted to the same prison as Boginya, and they attempted to help her escape last night. The two women were smart, they knew everything about the officers and knew how to distract them and manipulate them. They even stole the keys to their cells and managed to unlock them last night. They knew the entire blueprint of the prison, they knew the exact schedule that the officers followed, and they knew all the blind spots to get past without being noticed," Trisha sighed.
Listening up to this point, Jackson began to get impatient. "Are you telling me that Boginya escaped?!" he asked. If she did, then his wife was in serious danger. After all, she played a big part in Boginya's capture.
Fortunately, Trisha replied, "No, we were lucky. Another big incident happened last night that completely foiled their plan..."
"Another big incident?" Jackson asked.
"Yes," Trisha confirmed, "It was Trojan... He finally woke up..."
Jackson continued to listen with curiosity. How did these two incidences collide?
"As expected, Trojan woke up with permanent brain damage after 9 months in a coma. To be honest, we didn't expect him to ever wake up. But, as soon as he woke up, he called out one particular name: Sofia. I knew immediately that he was referring to Boginya after what your wife had previously told me about their relationship. So, under compassionate grounds, I decided to have her escorted to see him. Of course, Boginya never expected this, nor did her two accomplices. When the officers arrived to fetch Boginya, they discovered her trying to escape. There was a big fight. The two women had smuggled in weapons and they were extremely good fighters, but they couldn't hold up against the officers and were finally restrained. When I was notified about the attempted escape, something in my gut told me there was more to it. Following my instincts, I went to speak to the two accomplices. I wanted to see if any guards helped them and how they planned such an elaborate escape. But, something immediately caught my attention when I met with them..."
"One of the women called out my name before I even introduced myself..."
"I was certain that I had never met her before, yet she looked at me like she knew exactly who I was..."
Jackson squinted his eyes with suspicion as a thought crossed his mind. "Brain Tap..." he whispered under his breath.
"Yes..." Trisha replied with regret. "I thought the same thing so I immediately called Dr. Li and Dr. Ren. And, after some tests, Dr. Li confirmed this afternoon that the two women had indeed undergone Brain Tap surgery."
"This means that The Organization has figured out the technology and has begun to use it..."
Just as Trisha finished saying this, the front door to Jackson and Halia's home opened. Halia had just returned from work.
When Jackson saw his wife, he suddenly had a bad feeling he knew why Trisha had called. "Why did you call to tell me this?" he asked sternly. Trisha had no obligation to report this to him; he wasn't her superior anymore.
Trisha hesitated for a moment. "Well..." she stuttered. She knew Jackson wouldn't like what she was about to ask, but she knew he would have been furious if she hid it from him.
"I would like to ask for Halia's help. I..."
"No!" Jackson replied firmly before Trisha even finished speaking. He knew it!
"Listen, Captain Wu, I have no choice. This is the best and quickest option..." Trisha pleaded. "I promise your wife won't be harmed in any way."
Jackson glanced at his pregnant wife as she waddled up to him like a cute little penguin with her round belly. How could he bear to let her get involved with something so dangerous?
"No, I can't allow it. There must be another way," Jackson was firm on his decision. There were plenty of people in Interpol, why did they have to bother his wife?
Trisha bit her lip nervously. She was desperate.
At that moment, Halia sat down and leaned in to give her a husband a kiss on the cheek. "Who are you talking to?" she asked with a sweet smile.
As soon as Trisha heard Halia's voice, she ignored Jackson's disapproval and subconsciously screamed over the phone, "Halia! Help! The Organization has the Brain Tap technology!"
When Halia heard this, she quickly grabbed the phone out of Jackson's hand. "What did you say?!" she exclaimed in shock. "We have to stop them! How can I help?"
Jackson looked at his wife dotingly and sighed. If he knew this was going to happen, he should have blocked Trisha's number...
