Chapter 383 - Dinner With The Wus

Name:Help...My Wife is a Spy Author:Yunyi
Halia was sitting in her room trying to see if she could recall anything else about the mysterious 'Amun' that Boginya mentioned when there was suddenly a knock on the front door. She and Jackson weren't expecting any guests so she peeked her head out to have a look as Jackson went to open the door.

A moment later, she heard a familiar voice. "Since we didn't get to have breakfast today, Emerson and I were wondering if you'd like to have dinner tonight?" Avaleigh asked.

Halia smiled and stepped out of the room when she realized who it was.

"We would be more than happy to," she replied before Jackson got the chance to say anything. Back in Guiyang City, Halia had overheard some conversations between Jackson and his brother about Avaleigh. Apparently, Emerson loved her so much that he opened an entertainment agency just for her. Of course, prior to that, she couldn't forget that Emerson had also asked Jackson to go after a killer that was related to Avaleigh in Korea. As his sister-in-law, she couldn't help but feel a little curious about this woman. So, dinner was the perfect opportunity to get to know her better. They could test her and see if she was genuine. After all, she and Jackson were professionals at interrogation and they were a good judge of character.

"That's great, apart from food that's not allowed during pregnancy, is there anything that either of you don't eat? Or is there anything you're really craving?" Avaleigh asked politely. Emerson had already headed to work so she was standing there on her own and she suddenly felt a little nervous. The couple had an oddly intimidating presence...like the police...

She still remembered how she felt when she was suspected of Mimi's death, and these two gave off a similar vibe to the police that interrogated her. How strange...

But, from what she knew, Jackson was a businessman that owned shares in multiple businesses and Halia was the director of Fengtai Corporation. Perhaps, her nerves were just getting to her.

Jackson shook his head. "We aren't picky eaters," he replied.

Avaleigh smiled and nodded, "OK, I'll prepare something and see you at 7pm tonight. You can come to our place when you're ready."

She left excitedly and quickly returned to her own apartment.

That night, Emerson returned home right on time to help Avaleigh plate the food that she had cooked. He was used to her cooking and was always impressed by what she managed to make, but of course, she repeated a lot of her dishes. After all, they had been together for several months now; she couldn't possibly cook something different every single day. But, as Emerson looked at the food on the dining table, he was surprised to see dishes he had never seen before.

Avaleigh looked at Emerson with slight embarrassment, "Do you think they will like this food? It's my first time making it."

Emerson scanned his eyes across the table and nodded his head. This woman was more thoughtful than he could ever imagine.

At that moment, there was a knock on the door. Halia and Jackson had arrived.

As soon as they opened the door, Halia sniffed the air and smiled, "I smell something sweet and sour." Pregnant women often craved sweet and sour food and she was no different.

Avaleigh nodded her head and explained, "I made you a pork knuckle, black vinegar, and ginger stew. It is a traditional Cantonese dish that we make for pregnant women. It is highly nutritional and great for both you and the baby. Plus, it's delicious."

Halia walked over to the dining table and looked at the earthenware pot that was sitting on top of it. She lifted the lid and the fragrance wafted into her nose. She immediately felt like she could finish the entire pot.

"Did this take a long time to make?" Halia asked as she looked at the earthenware pot. Normally, stews cooked in pots like this took a long time.

Avaleigh shook her head modestly, "Traditionally, people would let this stew overnight, but fortunately, I have a pressure cooker, so it sped up the process."

Emerson wrapped an arm around his girlfriend and said proudly, "She started making this as soon as she returned from breakfast!"

As soon as she returned from breakfast? Halia started counting in her mind. That meant, the stew took, at least, 7-8 hours!

Avaleigh quickly waved her hands, "Don't listen to him. He's making it sound like hard work. I simply left it there to stew. The longer you stew it for, the stronger the flavors. Some people make huge pots and eat it for weeks. Come, sit down, I'll scoop out a bowl for you," Avaleigh smiled as she began to serve the stew for Halia.

Halia glanced at Jackson and smiled. She could see why Emerson loved her so much. Avaleigh was an amazingly thoughtful person.

But, Jackson remained indifferent as he sat down. He needed a little bit more to feel impressed. After all, she was still nothing compared to his wife.

However, the moment he sat down, he noticed a particular dish on the table. "Is that ratatouille?" he asked in surprise. He hadn't seen this dish since Max cooked it in their restaurant in Marseille.

Avaleigh nodded her head, "I heard that Cleo's boyfriend is your good friend, so I asked him for a recipe that you really like..."

Jackson immediately dug his fork into the dish to have a taste and smiled when the familiar flavor entered his mouth. It tasted almost the same as the one that Max made. This dish meant a lot to him. It reminded him of the struggles that he, Max, Kevin, and Rowan went through in France. Those were some tough years.

He nodded his head with satisfaction and looked at his brother with approval. "When are you going to marry her?" he asked straightforwardly.

Avaleigh immediately blushed and almost choked on the glass of water she had just lifted to her lips. She couldn't believe how direct this man was.

Halia giggled when she saw Avaleigh's reaction. When it came to love, Jackson was never one to mess around.

Perhaps, this was something that ran in the Wu Family's blood. Emerson looked at his brother and sister-in-law proudly, pulled Avaleigh closer to him, and said cryptically, "After her ring arrives."

Avaleigh glanced up at Emerson in surprise. Ring? What ring?
