The next day, outside the Wus' apartment building, reporters from the biggest entertainment news sources were gathered. They didn't bother Avaleigh before, but now that they knew her boyfriend was the infamous Emerson Wu and she was pregnant with his child, they all wanted to latch onto the hot gossip.
So, the moment that Avaleigh walked out of the building, she was surrounded by cameras and microphones.
"Ava, how many months pregnant are you?"
"Ava, are you dating Emerson Wu because of his money?"
Avaleigh looked at them helplessly and didn't know what to say. Unless she had solid evidence in her hands, it only seemed like she was hiding something. So, she ignored them and tried to squeeze through. But, the reporters formed a solid wall in front of her.
At that moment, a voice called out behind her, "Excuse me, a pregnant lady is coming through!"
Avaleigh turned around in surprise and saw Halia trying to get through the crowd. By this point, Halia was almost 8 months pregnant so her stomach was extremely obvious and no one dared to get in her way in case they hurt her. As Halia walked past Avaleigh, she hooked her arm around Avaleigh's arm and said, "Help me to my car."
The reporters moved to the side, clearing a path for the pregnant woman.
At that moment, "Vroom!" A brand new Rolls Royce pulled up in front of the apartment building. The reporters looked in admiration at the expensive car, but they weren't completely surprised since the apartment building was one of the most expensive in Hong Kong.
But, they were taken by surprise when Avaleigh opened the car door for Halia...and Halia pulled her into the backseat as well! Before they managed to react, the car drove away.
"Hey, come back! We haven't finished with our questions!" one of the reporters screamed as she tried to chase after the car. However, her screams were futile.
Inside the car, Avaleigh looked at Halia in surprise before she glanced at Jackson who was sitting in the front seat and realized the couple had deliberately left the apartment separately to save her. She was stunned by what they had done. How did they know the reporters would be waiting and weren't they intimidated by them?
She wanted to question Halia, but before she managed to say anything Halia suddenly asked, "Do you know someone called Natasha Gu?"
Avaleigh tilted her head in confusion. She thought about the name and nodded, "Are you talking about the model, Natasha Gu?"
Halia nodded her head and continued, "Did you offend her in any way?"
Avaleigh thought for a moment. "We've never crossed paths," she replied.
Halia glanced out the window indifferently but she understood and said with an underlying tone, "Focus on your work. Don't worry about the media. I'm sure the truth will prevail."
She then smiled and said, "I am going to the hospital to get some checks done. Why don't you come with me and get a check-up? The best way to clear the rumors is with solid evidence. I'm sure, no evidence is better than a confirmation from a doctor."
Avaleigh looked at Halia in surprise and nodded her head. It was indeed the quickest and easiest way to clear her name. "But, I'm supposed to report to the agency today," she said.
"Don't worry, I already spoke to Danson," Halia said.
Avaleigh was once again impressed by her future sister-in-law. It appeared as though she already had everything planned. No wonder she was the boss of Fengtai.
After they arrived at the hospital, Avaleigh went to see her doctor first. Since she was only there for a general check-up, she didn't have to wait long.
Meanwhile, Halia waited in the waiting room for her obstetrician. Knowing that it would take a while, she stepped outside and made a quick phone call to a number that she had just added to her phone the previous night, "Avaleigh has never crossed paths with Natasha Gu, are you sure your intel is reliable?"
On the other end, a male voice replied, "As soon as you called me for help last night, I asked my friends in the industry about the reporter that posted the article about Avaleigh. Supposedly, someone saw him meeting with Natasha Gu in secret. I made some more calls this morning and discovered something interesting. No one knows this, but Natasha Gu is the backup female choice for the variety show that Avaleigh is in... If Avaleigh gets kicked off the show, Natasha will take her place. Based on the popularity of the show, she definitely has the motive to ruin Avaleigh's reputation, even though Avaleigh isn't familiar with her."
The man on the phone was Oliver.
Halia furrowed her brows. "Get someone to follow the reporter and Natasha Gu, I want evidence. No one messes with the Wus and gets away with it..."
...
At this time, in Morocco, a plane landed from Israel.
"What are you here in Morocco for, Miss Jones?" the customs officer asked the chirpy young blond-haired woman in front of him.
Allison Jones, A.K.A Hummingbird, looked at the serious man and smiled, "Bonjour! I'm here on a holiday!"
The customs officer flipped through the woman's passport. She had been to many places and she did not seem suspicious, so he grabbed his stamp, placed a stamp on it, and waved the woman through.
"Muchas gracias!" Hummingbird grinned as she grabbed her passport and walked through.
As she disappeared, the customs officer looked at his colleague and rolled his eyes. They spoke French in Morocco, but that woman had just thanked him in Spanish. "Another Australian backpacker?" his colleague asked. The customs officer sighed and nodded his head.
But, not too far away, Hummingbird chuckled to herself. She had blond hair, blue eyes, and a chirpy voice that made her appear like a ditzy blond, but she was actually a genius with an IQ of 153! In fact, she became a member of Mensa when she was only 7! She had deliberately acted dumb to avoid being noticed and it worked. Even a fake taxi driver tried to scam her into taking his car when he saw her walk out of the airport.
"I can take you to the medina for 100 dirham!" he whispered beside her.
Everyone else was charging a flat rate of 120 dirham, so 100 dirham sounded like a good deal. But, this man actually wanted more than 100 dirham. He was going to lure someone into his car and rob them!
Hummingbird smiled and nodded her head. "This way," the man grinned as he led her across the street. He thought she had fallen for his trick. As he walked past one of his friends, he even whispered in French, "Got myself a sucker." His friend smiled, looked around, and carefully started following behind.
But, the two men did not notice Hummingbird's innocent smile had turned into a smirk.
The moment that the man led her to a car hidden in the corner of the parking lot, his friend rushed forward from behind and tried to grab Hummingbird. But, she quickly dodged, knocked the two men out, grabbed the keys to the car, and jumped into the driver's seat.
She was no sucker. They were the suckers...
