Chapter 421 - Made For Each Other

Name:Help...My Wife is a Spy Author:Yunyi
Dressed in a short bluish-grey bodycon dress that highlighted the curves on her body, Jaclyn stood awkwardly beside her father and glanced at Mia. Like her two brothers, she was quite popular among the opposite s.e.x so a small group of young socialite men had gathered around to eavesdrop on her response.

"So, do you? Do you have a boyfriend?" Uncle Robert's son asked again.

Jaclyn wanted to be honest, but she didn't want to embarrass her father. Technically, she didn't have a boyfriend - she had a girlfriend. But could she really say that in front of all the guests?

It was only a few years ago that a certain socialite had made a public offer on social media, saying that he would pay any man HK$1 billion if they could turn his homos.e.x.u.a.l daughter straight. Moreover, Hong Kong was a country where same-s.e.x marriage wasn't legalized yet. Would a conservative country like this be able to accept her and Mia?

However, even though Jaclyn couldn't predict what everyone thought, she had greatly underestimated her parents. While she was hesitating, her mother dragged Mia over and said proudly, "I would like you all to meet my other daughter."

Jaclyn looked at her mother in surprise.

"Other daughter?" Uncle Robert asked in confusion. The German woman standing beside Auntie Lily towered above her like a giant and her brown hair and blue eyes did not resemble her at all. What did she mean by other daughter? Was she adopted? Or was she her goddaughter, perhaps?

Uncle Robert smiled. Was this another option for his son to marry someone from the prestigious Wu Family?

Auntie Lily nodded her head. "Yes, my daughter-in-law," she clarified. She then placed Mia's hand in Jaclyn's hand and smiled at the two women warmly. Same-s.e.x marriage was not legal in Hong Kong, but it didn't mean that she didn't acknowledge the couple. Especially after everything that Mia had done for Jaclyn. If not for Mia, her daughter may still be addicted to heroin.

Uncle Robert was still a little confused. For a moment, he had to wonder whether Mr. and Mrs. Wu had a third son. He even considered the possibility that this woman was a mistress of Jackson or Emerson's. But the young men that were listening to the conversation immediately understood.

Now that they looked at the two women, it was quite obvious. Mia was wearing a stylish suit in the exact same shade as Jaclyn's dress and they were both wearing the same rose gold ring.

Inside the busy ballroom, it was a little silent around Jaclyn as everyone tried to process the information they had just been given. Uncle Robert's son felt a little silly for asking the question that he did, and the other young men felt a little awkward. They didn't know how to react. This was a sensitive topic.

At that moment, Uncle Robert gave a sly chuckle. "Which one of your sons is the lucky man?" he asked as he winked and nudged Father Wu.

All the youngsters gasped. Uncle Robert had just made the scene even more awkward than it already was...

Would Father Wu be offended by this?

But, to everyone's surprise, Father Wu smiled and said straightforwardly, "My daughter Jaclyn is the lucky one."

It took a few seconds for Uncle Robert to process Father Wu's response, but his eyes soon lit up with realization and his lips quivered awkwardly, "I'm sorry, Jack. I didn't know..."

"There's nothing to be sorry about," Father Wu replied. "I just hope that you can treat my daughter and daughter-in-law with respect."

Uncle Robert quickly nodded his head. He was still shocked but he did not dare to cast judgment on the Wu Family.

At that moment, Uncle Robert's son stretched out his hand and shook Mia's hand. With an admiring smile, he said, "It's a shame that two lovely women are taken off the market, but I must admit that you make a great couple."

Behind them, some of the other youngsters started whispering, "They look so good together."

"I wonder how they met. I would love to hear their story."

Jaclyn smiled when she realized how accepting everyone was. She knew that Mia didn't understand and was worried that she might feel uncomfortable, so she leaned over and whispered in her ear, "They're all saying how good we look together."

But to her surprise, Mia wrapped her arm around her waist and said confidently, "I know."

She didn't care what others thought, never once did she doubt that they were made for each other.

...

Up at the bridal table, Halia looked at Jaclyn and Mia and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw their smiles. Her two sister-in-laws had flown all the way from Germany to join them for this celebration, so, naturally, she didn't want to see them unhappy.

"I'm so envious of them and of you," a voice whispered beside Halia's ear. "I wish I could find a partner that matched me so well," Lily sighed.

Halia glanced at her doctor friend, "What about Isaac? Didn't things work out with him?"

Lily looked towards the direction of the doctors and frowned, "We broke up a week ago..."

Halia's eye opened wide in surprise, "Why didn't you tell me?"

"I knew your wedding was coming up so I didn't want to ruin the mood. It's OK, I already cried it all out and I'm ready to move on. That's why I'm telling you now. You don't have to feel unhappy for me," Lily said with a brave face, even though Halia could sense the sadness in her voice.

"What went wrong?" Halia asked.

"It's too difficult for two doctors to be in a relationship. We're both so busy and we barely have any free time. Worst of all, we work at the same hospital, in the same ward, so we are often rostered on different days and times. It's too hard to get some time together. What is the point of a relationship when you can never see each other?" Lily sighed.

Halia nodded in understanding and took a quick glance at Jackson. She was very fortunate that Jackson retired from Interpol to dedicate his time to their home. If he hadn't done that, would they still have lasted this long? Could two agents really date?

...

At this time, in one of the corridors outside the ballroom, Hummingbird had just stepped out of the bathroom when she felt someone push her against the wall. She instinctively lifted one of her arms and one of her knees to fight back, but when she saw the person's face, she immediately stopped.

"I've been waiting an entire year to do this," a seductive voice said.

Before she could react, Hummingbird felt a pair of soft lips press down against hers...
