“Right, I hate it. Thank you for the touching advice and for looking out for how I feel. I will think about your advice. After listening to more of your interesting stories, I feel better than I expected. But I wish to end our conversation here. What do you say? Don’t you think we’re not close enough to speak to each other like this?”
She had even listened to Clara’s last nonsense, so she felt like she had enough. Declaring an end to the conversation with a bright smile made Clara’s eyes shake. Clara hadn’t heard the words that she wanted to hear. She wasn’t ready to be kicked out like this. Her eyes rolled busily, looking at Ella. She tried to find an excuse to stay longer, but there was nothing. That was until some weird sensation grabbed her.
‘She’s only 17. How can she make such a mature-looking expression?’
Clara then delved into her dumb brain, trying to remember excerpts from the novel about 17-year-old Ella. But…
‘Ugh. This brain is useless,’ thought Clara as she couldn’t recall the information she already knew. She thought it was unfair to be stuck in such a body, so she directed the blame back to Ella again, ‘Why wasn’t I put into that body if I had to be thrown into this world? That should’ve been my body instead!’
She clearly remembered how intelligent Ella was. No one came close to her in pinpointing the most important points of the vast information that Xyle provided.
‘If I were in that body, I would’ve enjoyed all of her fortunes.’
Then there wouldn’t be any need to try so hard like this. Thinking about it made her feel even more devastated. If she could, she would want to overtake Ella’s body now.
Ella felt goosebumps rising as Clara greedily stared at her while not listening to her demands for her to leave. Because of this, she decided that there was no need to prolong this confrontation anymore and rang the magic bell placed on the side table. ‘She’ll back off once my servants arrive.’
As expected, Clara flinched and took a step backward after hearing the bell. She knew she had to leave now, but she still felt unfinished. Then Ella added, “I won’t give you the answer that you want no matter how long you drag this on. Isn’t it better for the both of us to end it here?”
“Do you really need to become the crown princess? You’ll be miserable.”
“Why is it decided that I’ll be miserable?”
Clara’s mouth shut tight. It made Ella almost laugh as it looked as if Clara was saying she would make her miserable if she wasn’t. Why was it that such a sight made her laugh instead of becoming angry? At the genuine smile that Ella made from her heart, Clara clenched and shivered in rage.
Ella’s smile just deepened further as she wondered, ‘Should I irritate her more?’
She was about to listen to her consciousness when the closed door opened. It was Smila and the other servants. After coming into the room, Smila hurried over to Ella and stood in front of her as if she was protecting her.
“How dare you! I heard of your mannerless behavior, but the rumor was actually insufficient now that I see it! Leave this room at once!”
Smila was the embodiment of a lady who was always quiet and gentle. She was becoming more outgoing little by little due to Mari and Joanne’s influence, but it was the first time seeing her being so hostile to someone. In the novel, she never once confronted anyone with such hostility. She was always the type to stop someone from becoming hot-tempered.
Ella’s eyes grew large from watching Smila as she looked at her from the back. ‘I never knew Smila had this hidden inside her.’
She became curious as she waited for Clara’s reaction, ‘She too must know Smila from the book. She might respond to her unusual behavior as well.’
Clara did respond as Ella had expected. She looked at Smila with confusion, then nodded as she accepted the situation. Afterward, she put her chin up as arrogantly as she could, made an audible scoff, and quickly turned her head. Then, she tried her best to look like she wasn’t being kicked out of the room and arrogantly walked out.
Smila glared at her as she breathed in anger and turned to Ella only after confirming the servants had closed the door as they left the room. She then poured out her frustrations that she had held back, “My god! How long have you been with that woman, my lady! What were you thinking? You should’ve called for someone right away when she came! Do you understand how long I have been waiting for you?”
“Smila, what did you just say? You were waiting for my call? Since when?”
Listening to Smila’s frustrations with awe, Ella became shocked by her words which she couldn’t just ignore, and asked if she was actually waiting for her? Since when?
“I followed along when I saw you and His Highness heading toward the resting room. I thought you might need my help. I was about to come in when I saw His Highness leave the room, but Count Willan came to talk to me. He said you had an appointment to meet someone else, called the servant that came in a while ago, and told me to go and wait with her. Was that someone that the Count spoke of her?”
Ella almost sighed at Smila for blindly listening to Dayson’s words without confirming them with her, but that wasn’t the important issue here. What was important was that Dayson helped Clara with her uninvited visit.
‘This is new. Clara and Dayson teaming up?’
She let out a whistle as she laid down on the chair. Now that Ella had her servant help take care of her mess, her nervousness disappeared like magic. She moved her body to think more clearly and think about the unexpected partnership between those two people.
Two people, who she never even paid much attention to just until a while ago, were planning such unexpected things. The world seemed to grow more drastic, making Ella more frustrated. Why was such a thing happening?
