When Daiya turned eighteen and reached his adulthood, his rut came.
Werewolves go into heat once every three months once they reached adulthood, which meant once every season. And each time, it lasts for at least a week.
If a werewolf doesn’t have a mate by his side before their rut approaches, then they will form a circle, call it their territory and keep themselves inside to spend their rut alone.
In that state, werewolves are extremely dangerous. They often have difficulty controlling their emotions and if they still couldn’t find a mate when they are older, they may even turn delirious during their rut.
If someone enters their territory then, and if it’s someone they like, then said werewolf would completely lose control of himself.
Eli was a vampire. Their clan doesn’t go through any rut periods, so naturally, he didn’t know that werewolves’ ruts would be so serious.
He did notice Daiya looking sickly for several days in a row, often nestled in his bed and reusing to eat. He ended up not even stepping out of his room later, simply shutting himself off in there.
Eli thought he was sick at first, so he forced the door open to Daiya’s room.
And so, he was pounced on by the delirious Daiya.
The strength of a werewolf in heat was not to be underestimated. Not to mention, Daiya was a young and extremely vigorous werewolf.
The next day when Eli woke up, he didn’t even have the time to be angry. Daiya hugged him tight and cried painfully, apologizing to him nonstop too.
While he cried, he also repeatedly told Eli that he liked him too much. He thought it was just his hallucinations and asked Eli for his forgiveness. He didn’t mean to hurt Eli.
Daiya said incoherently, “Eli, Eli. I’m sorry. I thought…I thought those were hallucinations. I don’t know what happened to me. My whole body felt so hot, and I liked you too much…really, really like…”
Seeing how Daiya was acting, Eli couldn’t bring himself to really be angry at him. Perhaps Daiya himself didn’t understand what was going on either.
And so, Eli went out the next day to read up on a bunch of information on werewolves’ immortality. Only then did he learn about werewolves’ rutting period, so he had even lesser reasons to be mad at Daiya. It was him who didn’t teach Daiya all that.
Furthermore, he was the one who forced his way into Daiya’s room. In those ancient books, it was said that when young wolves see the person they like in their rut, they lose their minds completely.
Daiya liked him?
Eli was a little confused.

Once a werewolf spent their rut with their mate for the first time, then it will be hard to stop it afterwards. If it is forcibly stopped, then the werewolf’s spiritual power would no longer be appeased by his mate and will rush backwards into their own body and cause irreversible damage that could endanger his life.
So Eli decided to do what was right in his opinion, and helped Daiya go through this rut.
But ever since Daiya regained his senses back, he dared not do anything to Eli even when his whole body was in extreme agony.
Even if he wanted to, he could not remember the things he did to Eli that night after losing his mind. It was all by instincts. So even as Eli was lying next to him, Daiya was at a loss.
In the end, it was Eli who took Daiya’s hands and guided him step by step. And for a whole week too!
Eli felt a great sense of guilt then. How old was he even! How old was Daiya even!
Eli tried justifying it in his mind, that it was all for his wellbeing!
After spending the rut with Daiya this time, Eli felt like there was some kind of gap between them now.
Daiya no longer clung to him and even stayed away from him, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Even when they run into each other in the manor, Daiya would lower his head and ignore Eli, darting right past him.
Eli knew that their relationship had changed and he certainly can no longer face Daiya the same way as before. So he did not take the initiative to seek out Daiya anymore. While Daiya avoided him like the plague for two months.
