Chapter 517 Plot thickens-1
After the meeting, Samuel immediately went to Jane to see what she had found out. She had full access to Rothschild's resources as Samuel had put her in charge of uncovering everything about the hidden threat. He wanted to talk to Greyson, but he was nowhere to be found.
He made his way toward the security zone of the estate, which was about three kilometers at the edge of the estate. It was where most of the families lived and was situated on the weakest border of the estate.
They had a separate gate and everything, making it easier for them to access the city. Between the main mansion and this grid was the training facility; it was done so even a member of the family would be able to go there without disturbing the residents of the area.
He hadn't trained for the past couple of days, so he was tempted to swing by the facility, but he refrained himself. He swiftly entered the building where the management of the private security and the surveillance was done and headed straight to the floor where Jane usually worked.
It's not every day that Samuel visited the place, and with his recent popularity, everyone greeted him enthusiastically, so he had to go through a sea of people before he could actually enter the elevator. It's not like he hated the attention; it was just that the rumors had blown out of proportion.
Several times, he had to tell them what actually happened, and it was not as 'badass' as breaking the wall with his fists! They made him sound like Superman, which he clearly was not. What's more, children would also come up to him and hound him to hear it from the horse's mouth.
He was baffled why their parent would ever tell them about it, but soon he found out it was a watered version of events. Still, kids, being kids, were able to overhear other adults and got a sense of the distorted reality of everything.
He was slowly transforming from the heir of the Rothschild family to a local superhero. He didn't want kids to have unreasonable expectations. He took a mental note before he knocked on Jane's office door.
" Come in." She said without looking but immediately became excited when she noticed him," Boss, you are here! I finally had a breakthrough! I was about to call you, but I heard you were in a family meeting." She stood up and waited for him to take his seat.
" No need to be so formal. We are alone here. Where are the others?" He looked around to see that his team was gone. The whole floor was their base of operation, and every time he came there, he would see some of them polishing their gun or laughing about something. It was quite lively, completely different from the current desolated atmosphere.
" Steve went to assist the tail we put on our two suspects while Choi guided another team to hunt for the trafficking organization's main base. It would be a miracle if he found anything; they are already spooked about our recent attacks." Jane said while sorting out a few documents.
" Good, I didn't expect them to work during holidays, especially Steve. I know you must have hated his decision." Samuel knew it must be harder for them to work as a couple.
" It's fine; we talked about it and decided to take a long vacation after we catch those bastards," Jane said with a smile, but Samuel could feel some lingering resentment in her tone.
" Right, before you show me. I have a gift for you. Here, plug this into the terminal and compare it to what we currently have on them." Samuel handed her a thumb drive. It was the information that he received from his father.
It surprised him a little that it was on the parent database, but he could understand there was always a risk of hacking involved with it. He was told that there was no hard evidence as everything had been destroyed after the digital age. He didn't know if it was the truth, but it's better if he didn't snoop around for it.
" What is it? Did you ask Zero for it? I thought you said to keep them out of it." Jane thought he was working with Zero again.
With Arthur raising his suspicion regarding what transpired over in LA, the team decided not to keep Zero and their organization in the loop. They were also acting distant ever since Samuel discovered the breach in his operations.
" It's not from them; I don't even get any updates from them recently. They must have found out what we are up to, and since I haven't shared anything, they must be on their toes."
" That's what we want, right? I believe our bugs are still working. It would be harder for them to detect us in their system if they are not actively looking for it."
" Are you sure that's necessary? I believe they are almost done with capturing the LA underground market. It's the last update that I received from them." Samuel was a little reluctant to spy on his own people. He knew he couldn't entirely trust them since he had taken the guild under his rule, but still, they had nothing been exemplary over the years without even raising any red flags.
" That's your call, Boss, but personally, I always felt there was something wrong with them." She said as she read the digital files." There is a lot here. I will run the software that I got from Adrian and look for any similarities; it should give us some early matches."noVe-lB)In
" How long will it take-"
" Got it."
" So fast?"
" I took the liberty of running it on our personal supercomputer. I know it's used for family business, but a few seconds wouldn't hurt, right?" She gave him a playful smile to which Samuel could only sigh. His team was so free-spirited that they had already hacked the family's intranet servers.
He couldn't stay mad at her as several pieces of documents began popping out, filling all the large monitors on her desk. He moved his chair closer and started burning everything in his memory. He didn't need supercomputers because he already had one in his mind.
" It will take a few minutes for me to sort everything out."
" Wait, let me do it. I think I saw few relevant pages." Samuel snatched the keyboard, to which Jane looked at him with a surprised expression. Never in the history of her being here has Samuel ever offered to use the computer personally. Did he even know how it works? It was a modified OS with unique commands!
" I can do it, Boss, no need to be so impatient. You will only hamper my work." She retorted.
" Why do you always forget that I have a master's in Computer Science. I can do most of the work. It's just I don't bother with it. Just give me a second." He started typing furiously, and after a few minutes, only a dozen documents and photos remained on the screens.
He stopped typing and started looking at the screens with a somber expression. It gave them some idea of what they were up against, but from their operations, Samuel knew they were barely scratching the surface.
" H-how did you do that so fast?" Jane, on the other hand, was baffled. Just looking at his typing speed frightened her; he already knew her system from the inside.
" Oh, don't look so surprised! I don't always look at your back while you are working; it's not hard if one pays attention, alright?" Samuel brushed her off.
Jane didn't know what to say, but in a few seconds, she calmed down. If it was anyone else, she wouldn't believe him, but if anyone could do it, learning from watching, it would be Samuel! She started paying attention to what he was looking at.
" That's mind-blowing...to think we had so much on them from the start." Jane was fascinated by everything presented on her monitor.
" True, I didn't know they were hiding for so long. I can't even imagine the type of influence they must have globally." Samuel said somberly. It seemed he had a tough fight ahead of him.
" The earliest documents are from the seventeenth century, that's right around the time when the printing press was invented. They were already using that weird six-dot and crown symbol. 'The three brothers had been safely transported to the specified location; it will be in auction in a fortnight. Requesting reinforcements immediately for the safeguard of the item.' " Jane read the text, which was in the old British language.
Samuel knew about the lost ' three brothers ' jewel treasure; it was in the hands of British royalty and was believed to have been sold off by the wife of the king at that time. It was shocking to know it ended up in the hands of this organization.
They went through a dozen more documents, and everything started to make sense. Their operation had expanded rapidly and moved to every continent in the later part of the nineteenth century. They were finding documents in different languages, most of them about benign details, but the common theme was the subtle use of their coat of arms.
