Chapter 85.1 – The Soldier’s Interrogation
Shi Yuan used the communicator to send out a positioning message so that the rescue team could come and save the soldier.
The soldier was very weak and kept urging Shi Yuan to go to the underground station.
Shi Yuan agreed to him.
Of course, he had to find his human.
The western district was full of ruins, guns and shell casings, dead human-faced birds, and white feathers, and only half of the armored vehicles were left with thick smoke… Shi Yuan looked for a long, long time before he found the underground passage that the soldier said.
Walking down the long steps step by step, there was a mess and blood stains, and it was impossible to tell whether it belonged to a human or a monster.
The underground stations in the main city were once very lively, with countless trains departing every minute to every corner of the city. Later, the battle situation became more tense. The maintenance cost of the underground station was too high and it was abandoned. The army established a line of defense here to make it a large outpost and storage place.
When the western district fell, Lu Tinghan was at the outpost.
Shi Yuan knew that with Lu Tinghan’s understanding of monsters, he must have expected this scene, but he still stayed at the outpost – thinking of this, Lu Tinghan was confident, and Shi Yuan was not so nervous.
He walked into the darkness underground and took out the small flashlight that he carried with him.
The pale light flickered, he walked to the platform and saw the train track and countless human-faced birds. There was only the sound of his footsteps all around, and as he walked further, the corpses of soldiers began to appear.
At the end of the platform, Shi Yuan walked along the track to the next platform in the black tunnel.
“Anyone?” he shouted, “Anyone?”
“Lu Tinghan, can you hear me?”
There was a dead silence, no one answered, so he quickened his pace.
The stations were not far apart, and he walked for ten minutes to the next platform.
There were also the corpses of soldiers on the platform, but as Shi Yuan walked, he realized something was wrong.
There was a pair of bodies next to the barbed wire fence, and the two were close together, never separating until they died.–
This should have been a sad scene.
If their hands hadn’t been in a death grip around each other’s necks.
Assuming that Shi Yuan had enough medical common sense, he would have noticed that both men’s lips and fingernails were purple, and their skin and eyelids were bleeding in spots, a standard mechanical asphyxiation. They had strangled each other alive.
Going further, many soldiers died of gunshots and stabbings.
It was not that they died at the hands of monsters. There was a fratricidal killing here, like…they completely lost their minds.
Shi Yuan followed the track to the next platform.
No human corpses were seen on the next platform, but there were many dead monsters. The human-faced birds were densely spread on the ground, with almost no place to land, and the walls were spattered with their blood.
They were here to meet the army.
The monsters were defeated miserably, their heads were shattered by bullets, their bodies were pierced by long knives, and some were pasted on the ceiling.
“Bang!” There was a gunshot.
Shi Yuan was taken aback, and accelerated his pace, and ran over: “Is anyone there – Anyone – Lu Tinghan!”
Turning around the corner, three black muzzles were pointed at him, and the expressions of the soldiers were horrified. Looking at him like they were seeing a ghost. Lu Tinghan was not far away, stepping on the corpse of a human-faced bird, and a wisp of smoke came out of the muzzle of his gun.
“Shi Yuan.” He was a little surprised and waved his hand, motioning the soldiers to lower their muzzles.
Shi Yuan raised his tail and ran over happily all the way: “That’s great! You are fine!”
He hugged Lu Tinghan abruptly, but he felt something wet, and stopped to look, his fingers were scarlet.
Shi Yuan: ?!!
“It’s the blood of a monster,” Lu Tinghan explained.
He wanted to touch Shi Yuan’s head to show comfort, but he stopped when he remembered that his hands were covered with mud and blood.
The soldiers next to him still stared wide-eyed – they were all Lu Tinghan’s powerful subordinates, and most of them had seen Shi Yuan, but how did Shi Yuan appear here safely? Could it be that…?
They did not dare to think about this possibility, nor did they dare to say it in the face of General Lu.
There was not enough time to be suspicious.
Lu Tinghan told Shi Yuan: “There is a monster nearby that can manipulate human-faced birds, similar to their leader. This group of monster tide is dead, but it is still alive, we have to find it. Support is on the way, but time is running out, we are searching.”
Shi Yuan asked, “What does it look like?”
“Its feathers are golden,” Lu Tinghan replied.
“Sounds beautiful.”
“It’s indeed beautiful.”
Shi Yuan followed the team, and the soldiers raised their guns and carefully searched every corner of the platform.
He asked Lu Tinghan in a low voice: “I saw some strange soldiers. They seem to be…attacking their own people?”
“The song of the human-faced bird can be hypnotic and hallucinogenic, making people lose their minds and become mentally infected – just like those Abyss Watchers. Then they began to kill each other,” Lu Tinghan explained, “Therefore, their leader must not be allowed to survive.”
“Oh…” Shi Yuan said, “Is this the first time a monster can infect the spirit?”
“This is the first time on such a large scale,” Lu Tinghan replied, “No one expected it.”
From tentacles that could imitate human voices, to rock snakes that could read human memories and know that Lu Tinghan was the number one threat, to today, the powerful singing voice descended from the sky, polluting everyone’s spirit…
The Alliance had never given up hope, and the monsters were moving forward step by step. The peak period was their hotbed, and the distortion allowed them to evolve. For ordinary species, it’d take tens of millions of years to evolve.
After they finished searching this platform, they went down the track and walked to the next platform.
Everyone was extremely exhausted, and Lu Tinghan’s physical exertion was not small – just now, he didn’t know how many monsters he had killed, and how many…crazy soldiers he had killed. In addition, before the fall, high-intensity command also consumed a lot of energy.
The light of the flashlight flickered across the top of the tunnel, Shi Yuan thought of something, took out half a piece of chocolate in his pocket, and handed it to Lu Tinghan: “Do you want to eat it?”
Lu Tinghan took it with his left hand and asked, “Where did it come from?”
“Professor Guan’s. I didn’t hold back and had already eaten a piece, so this is the only piece left,” Shi Yuan replied, “If I knew, I would leave more for you.”
“…” Lu Tinghan smiled silently, “Thank you.”
He put the chocolate in his mouth, and the bitter, rich aroma burst out, making people feel happy.
Shi Yuan still whispered: “Do you like chocolate?”
Lu Tinghan said: “Hmm. I like what you gave.”
“Oh, it’s really delicious!”
Lu Tinghan remembered something and said, “Shi Yuan, do you know, cocoa beans attract insects and rodents? No more than 60 pieces of insects and no more than 1 rodent hair per 100 grams of chocolate is a qualified product.”
Shi Yuan: ???
Human food craftsmanship shocked him for a hundred years.
He had just finished eating a large piece of chocolate and whispered, “Lu Tinghan, I hate you…”
Lu Tinghan: ?
