Everyone’s next mission was to complete an outdoor barbecue. Their lunch problem had to be settled.

Although Fang Jingmo went to help, there was no one who actually dared to let him do tiring work. He wandered about, returning with many ingredients. Then he went over to Bai Zhi and Liu Yi’s group, arranging the skewers that had been mixed around inside of the plate, and very politely inquired:

“Can we eat together?”

Liu Yi looked at the plate full of things. Her partner, Bai Zhi, still hadn’t agreed yet and was already nodding as if he were a chicken pecking rice.

Fang Jingmo had thus very happily gotten busy, skillfully washing the ingredients clean, skewering them, and carefully arranging them on the grill. Beside him, Bai Zhi ran around, asking what Fang Jingmo needed from time to time.

Fang Jingmo used a brush to coat the chicken breast with seasoning oil, and lightly sprinkled a bit of chilli powder, not forgetting to pull out a drink from the side while waiting. When he gave it to Bai Zhi, his voice was very gentle: “Hold it and go sit to the side, don’t get smoke on you.”

Bai Zhi foolishly nodded, then went back to sit holding a bottle.

The busy and drenched in sweat Liu Yi who inadvertently turned her head: ……

Fang Jingmo noticed the petrified Liu Yi, calmly saying: “He’s too tired.”

Liu Yi: ……I’m afraid you don’t know that even after completing a triathlon, he wouldn’t be tired.

But on the surface, she still kept her ladylike smile: “Right.”

“You can also go rest, ba, just leave this place to me.”

“That would make me embarrassed.”1

Fang Jingmo nodded: “Miss Liu Yi is truly a hardworking girl. Well, I won’t force you, we’ll continue.”

Liu Yi who was simply being polite: ???

Just like that, the time passed with Liu Yi stabbing him in her heart. By the time Bai Zhi had intended to continue holding the drink in a third position, Fang Jingmo approached carrying a plate.

He placed a large plate full of barbecue in front of Bai Zhi, sitting down beside him, “The director said there’s an activity later, have your fill first.”

Bai Zhi thought of the delicious food he previously ate, and his eyes couldn’t help shining. Hurriedly taking a skewer, he wolfed down his food.

The two people there had a joyous and harmonious atmosphere. When Liu Yi took her stuff to the table, a lyric suddenly flashed through her mind.

It’s obviously a movie of three people. 2

Huh, what’s the next line again?

She thought about it but it didn’t appear. She simply gave up, following after Bai Zhi, gorging herself.

After lunch, the directing team thoughtfully refrained from arranging some high-intensity activities. The group of people then took a stroll on the path between the mountains. It was pleasant, as if they went out on a normal holiday.

Bai Zhi carried a small bag, half a step behind Fang Jingmo- who he followed with a serious face- fully displaying the duties of a little brother. Fang Jingmo also didn’t stop him, just letting him continue.

Only in the evening did the crowd of people pause their steps. After enjoying the first ever lunch box delivered by the program team, someone voiced out:

“It seems that we’ve received a benefit through our senior. The shooting isn’t usually this humane.”

Fang Jingmo simply smiled.

People voiced out again: “It’s very difficult to get together and have free time nowadays, why don’t we put on a show for the program?”

This proposal was very quickly approved. Bai Zhi sat on the ground, watching each and every one of these humans tell jokes and sing songs in high spirits. He couldn’t help also feeling a bit happier.

Liu Yi looked at him being foolish. Hating iron for not becoming steel,3 she gave him a squeeze: “You go too ah!”

“I’m not gonna.” Bai Zhi shook his head.

“Whatever.” Liu Yi spoke, “Earn some scenes, it’s very important.”

“I don’t want a scene.” Bai Zhi turned his head away.

Liu Yi couldn’t understand. “Then, what are you doing, coming on a variety show?”

Bai Zhi didn’t speak, hugging his legs and looking at a spot.

Liu Yi followed where his gaze looked. The side of Fang Jingmo’s face well-lit at the bonfire, each and every move handsome and powerful.

Liu Yi suddenly recalled Bai Zhi’s words on that day.

Tall and handsome, 187cm.

Liu Yi’s gaze instantly changed.

The surrounding voices suddenly subsided. It turns out the guys had finished singing songs. Bai Zhi was still secretly watching his elder brother, then he suddenly saw Fang Jingmo turn his head, his gaze meeting his own.

As soon as he moved his index finger, he heard the surrounding voices heckle:

“There’s still Du Jian who hasn’t sung a song! Make him sing!”

Bai Zhi immediately released both his hands, speaking in a low voice: “Me?”

The voices promptly rang out in agreement. Bai Zhi was bewildered and looked at Fang Jingmo, seeing the smile on his face, his heart unexpectedly quietened down.

“Then I, I’ll try.”

Bai Zhi tried hard to remember how that person taught him to sing a hundred years ago, slowly opening his mouth.

It suddenly quietened down all around.

The gentle and soft voice of the youth sounded out. It was accompanied by the summer night breeze, lightly going into their ears.

His voice wasn’t very loud, but it seemed to have some type of odd charm. It made people slowly calm down, unconsciously sinking into it, making one’s eyes filled with the peaceful years. Time was still. It seems that this world has only ever had the spring breeze, summer cicadas, the autumn leaves and winter snow remaining. The former vicissitudes no longer disturbed their hearts and minds.

Fang Jingmo’s fingers slightly curled up. He looked at Bai Zhi who was earnestly singing with great effort, feeling an itch that seemed to be somewhere in his heart. And when the song ended, Bai Zhi’s eyes looked expectant, only staring at him, his tone also very tense:

“Fang Jingmo, did you like it?”

Snap.

Fang Jingmo was unable to specifically say what he felt. He only knew that inside his heart, there was something breaking through the ground and coming out, slowly sprouting.

The third edition of 《The Joys and Sorrows of Life》 had finished. Fang Jingmo’s participation made this originally somewhat hot variety show’s reputation famous.

“Doesn’t Fang Jingmo never participate in variety shows? Who can tell me what’s wrong with my male god, this time?”

“I went because of Fang Jingmo, but Du Jian had made me a fan. Asking for the audio of Du Jian singing at the end, ao ao ao4!”

“The moment I heard Du Jian sing at the end, I could already foresee how much his fans would increase…… Why is it able to be so healing, wuwuwu, I remembered my first love.”

“I remembered my first love +1. I’m now already an anti turned into a fan, just asking JianJian5 to issue a song!”

“Asking to issue a song +1. Also, am I the only one who thought of their parents? There’s still potato balls and vinegar potato shreds at home……”

Bai Zhi saw the number of his fans rapidly rise and couldn’t help thinking it was very strange: “Is my singing really pleasant to hear?”

The system nodded, then it remembered Bai Zhi couldn’t see it, immediately saying: “It’s pleasant to hear.”

Bai Zhi was a little shy: “Actually, at that time, I only wanted to sing for Fang Jingmo to listen.”

“Your chance is here.” The system voiced.

“What?”

“Fang Jingmo’s car is downstairs. I reckon he’s going to call you and say he was passing by again in a minute.”

Sure enough, the system’s words still hadn’t fallen when Bai Zhi’s phone had rung out. Surprising as it was, it was Fang Jingmo’s call.

“Senior?”

Fang Jingmo spoke, opening his mouth: “I bought excessive ingredients, do you want to come and solve this?”

“I want to!” As soon as Bai Zhi heard word of a dinner, he immediately voiced an agreement.

“I’m downstairs.”

“Was Senior passing by again?”

There was a moment of silence on the other side. Then, Fang Jingmo’s deep and low voice came through: “No. This time, I came prepared.”

……

Bai Zhi followed Fang Jingmo to his home just like a shadow. Fang Jingmo switched on the TV and took out the full collection of Balala the Fairies’ discs and gave them to him. Then, he turned around to enter the kitchen.

Bai Zhi was very well-behaved and sat upright as he watched TV on the sofa. A short while later, he was called to the dining table by Fang Jingmo.

The dishes on the dining table were excellent with their colour and fragrance- it was extremely tempting. Fang Jingmo swayed his wine glass, glancing at Bai Zhi from time to time.

Bai Zhi was keenly aware of his gaze: “Hm?”

Fang Jingmo promptly looked away, slowly sipping the wine in the glass, and lowered his eyes.

It was only when Bai Zhi had eaten till his belly was bulging that his thoughts had gone back to Fang Jingmo who sat at the table without saying a word.

“Senior.”

“What is it?”

“I…… I still want to play here for a little longer.” Bai Zhi thought of the Balala the Fairies that he had just watched from the beginning.

Fang Jingmo heard what was said and was silent for a moment. When he spoke again, his voice was very gentle and soft: “It’s up to you.”

Bai Zhi very happily tidied up the dining table, standing up to eagerly place the dishes in the kitchen. Fang Jingmo pulled him back onto the sofa, telling him, “Someone’s coming tomorrow, you don’t need to do it.”

Bai Zhi heard what was said and remained motionless, beginning to concentrate his attention on the TV. Fang Jingmo sat beside and accompanied him, the clock slowly ticking away. By the time Bai Zhi’s eyes felt a little sore, he looked up and saw it was already very early in the morning.

He was so startled he immediately darted off from the sofa, but then he was pressed back by the palm of Fang Jingmo’s hand: “What are you doing?”

“It’s really late……” Bai Zhi weakly said: “I’m gonna go home.”

“What’s the rush so early in the morning?”

“I’m sorry.” Bai Zhi was extremely honest, “I didn’t pay attention to the time and bothered you.”

Fang Jingmo looked at him, suddenly saying, “You can always bother me.”

“What?”

Bai Zhi didn’t understand what he meant.

Fang Jingmo slightly smiled, opening his mouth:

“Du Jian, I actually want to tell you something today .”

“What is it?”

Fang Jingmo spoke slowly, enunciating his thoughts word by word:

“I, kinda like you.”

Bai Zhi had a dumbfounded face: “Then what about Liu Yi?”

“Liu Yi?” Fang Jingmo’s expression changed. He stood up, looking at Bai Zhi as he stepped towards him: “Do you like Liu Yi?”

“I don’t, I don’t!” Bai Zhi was so frightened he repeatedly denied it: “Obviously, you like her!”

“I like her?” Surprise painted Fang Jingmo’s face. He intended on clarifying when he suddenly remembered Bai Zhi’s strange behaviour on the variety show: “……No. You mistakenly thought I liked Liu Yi, and that’s why you were avoiding her?”

Bai Zhi thought about it, then nodded.

Fang Jingmo’s heart was suddenly immensely complex.

The person in front of him was sincere, he had always known that. But he didn’t think that Du Jian had actually always thought that he liked Liu Yi.

If that’s the case, at that time when Liu Yi had fainted, what mentality did Du Jian use, standing in for him and carrying the black pot?6

A dull pain arose in Fang Jingmo’s heart.

The author has something to say:

Fang Jingmo: There’s a dull pain in my heart.

Bai Zhi: The heartache of an uncontrollable plot.7

Liu Yi who was stabbed to death lying down: Don’t shpeak.8

Anna: When he said he came prepared…. My mind ran with it.
