EP.289
Among the sayings I heard before, there is something like this.
‘If you are in a situation where you have to persuade someone, persuading a large group is easier than persuading a single individual.’
You may be wondering what this means, but the meaning behind it is roughly this.
No matter how hard I try to tell a good story and present good conditions to change a person’s beliefs, there is absolutely nothing I can do if the person rejects it.
If the target I am persuading is a group, even if everyone is stubborn at first and says no, gradually one or two people who are interested will appear.
This means that gradually, the number of people who change their minds in favor of my opinion will increase more than the number of people who oppose it.
However, unlike changing a group’s beliefs, making them betray a certain group means that if you convince just one person, everyone will start trying to survive.
According to this logic, the first thing I have to do now is to get one person to betray me.
“Anyway, since you were brought here, aren’t you destined to be tortured and die in pain with your limbs being torn apart, or to be executed in a cruel way in the square in the Reich Marketplace? Why would I lie to you like that? All you have to do is use more brutal torture to make them spit out the truth. “Then I won’t have to go through the trouble of talking to you. It may be unfortunate for you, but it’s very convenient for me.”
Actually, I really don’t want to do torture.
Of course, it would be less difficult for the torturer than for the person being tortured, and it would be more comfortable for me as an observer than for the torture technician who carries out the torture by moving his body.
Still, hearing the screams of those being tortured hurts my ears, and the sight of human blood and flesh splattering, just like on a battlefield, is not a very nice sight to see.
There are some crazy people who enjoy it as if they were looking at the naked bodies of beautiful women, but I don’t have that type of taste and I don’t want to do it.
I don’t have the slightest bit of sympathy for them.
“And I will show you that I really have the authority to take you out and exonerate you. “You will believe it when you see this.”
After saying that, I took out His Majesty’s royal decree from my pocket and showed it to the assassins.
“No matter how blind you are, I believe that as you live your life, you will at least know that documents announcing important matters of the empire always bear His Majesty’s seal stamped here. “This is a real royal decree containing His Majesty’s orders, and it states that all authority over this investigation is delegated to me, Captain Peter Yeager.”
I intentionally interrupted the conversation and the assassins muttered among themselves.
“That really seems like a royal decree. Oh shit. “That seal is the same as the one that was attached to the official document announcing the birth of the emperor’s son.”
“I don’t think it’s a lie...”
“Fuck, come to your senses. Crazy things! Do you guys believe that? Let’s say that just because it’s true, we get away with it. Do you think the guild leader will spare us and our families? It won’t work. “I should just die here.”
As expected, rather than catching each one of them and persuading them one by one, they are urging betrayal on several people, and even those who were shouting to fuck the Empire just a moment ago are quickly shaken.
50,000 gold, a huge sum equivalent to a year’s minimum living expenses for 50,000 households of serfs in this era, by cutting my head.
Fuck, when I just possessed this body, my head would have been worth less than 1 gold, but you never know in life.
I can’t help but sigh because it’s astounding that these guys are trying to rip off my head.
So I asked the same questions to other guys and got similar answers, and the inspector general looked at me with deep admiration for my resourcefulness and said,
“It’s truly amazing that you can so quickly open the mouths of vicious assassins who wouldn’t open their mouths even through torture.”
“It’s not that great. Then, as promised, I answered first, what is your name?”
“It’s Bink. “There is no last name.”
“Bink, I made a promise in my name, so I will get this guy out of here.”
After saying that, I signaled with my hand that I would kill him outside without being seen by Bink and the other assassins.
“Is it really necessary for the person in charge of the royal decree and the inspection department to ask me for permission? “Do as you wish.”
The torturers removed Binck’s chains, and Binck and I, guided by an agent from the inspection department, escaped from the inspection department and went to the outskirts of Reichburg.
Bink seemed so happy to have come back from the dead, and when he saw me, he bowed his head several times and said he would live a good life from now on.
It’s unfortunate for him, but I had no intention of saving him from the beginning.
However, since I have done so well, I only plan to do it as a favor to make it as psychologically stable as possible and to let it go with less pain.
“Did you say bink? Now here’s 20 gold. Take your success reward and run away with your family as quickly as possible. To seek asylum in another country. Then, no matter which rural area you settle in, you will be able to live as a free farmer with your own land.”
Bink shed tears at my words and bowed his head several times to thank me.
When the guy lowered his guard, holding a bag of 20 gold in his hand and completely lowering his guard against me, I pulled out the sword I had on my waist and struck his neck.
His head flew off with a bang and some blood splattered, but he ran away in peace, not knowing that his head was being cut off.
I said, taking 20 gold out of his hand before taking a step toward the imperial palace.
“I have kept my promise since I died without being tortured outside of the inspection department. Also, instead of selling your family to a mine or a mining office, I will take care of making them government slaves who can at least be enslaved.”
And a week after that day, the Imperial Inspection Department mobilized the Imperial Imperial Guard and part of the 7th Guards Division under my command and arrested Black Moon and all the nobles associated with it.
I had to make prior arrangements with His Majesty about how to deal with these guys, but this time, the place to meet and discuss with His Majesty was not the throne room... but it was decided to be a bar because we had to meet in secret.
