Rejection
Yun Shan held her stinging cheek, her long, disheveled hair covering half her face. Blood stained her palm and seeped between her fingers. Her pale lips trembled, and she could not say a word.
Slowly, tears gathered in Yun Shan’s eyes. She cast a resentful glance at Shen Yin, who was casually standing there in her white coat. Yun Shan’s eyes gradually reddened.
She suddenly turned away and left the autopsy room in a sorry state. When she saw the frail-looking assistant waiting outside, she was overwhelmed with shame and hatred.
Yun Shan grabbed the assistant’s wrist with one hand, digging her nails into the assistant’s flesh. With the other hand, Yun Shan yanked the assistant’s hair so hard that the latter’s features contorted in pain.
Yun Shan finally felt a little better when she saw how ugly the assistant looked.
She let go of her assistant’s hand, raised her head high, and straightened her clothes. She recovered her dignified and proud appearance.
When Shen Yin left the autopsy room, she was surprised when Zou Sheng stop her on the way back to the forensic office. He had a mysterious air.
“You wanted to see me?” She stopped and looked at him curiously. He was bursting with gossip.
Zou Sheng’s eyes darted around as he sneakily moved closer to her ear. Shen Yin was not used to it and subconsciously put some distance between them, but he did not mind. Instead, he asked her with interest, “You have a boyfriend?”
“?”
Shen Yin frowned in confusion and denied it without thinking.
“That’s good.” Zou Sheng heaved a long sigh of relief and waved aside Shen Yin’s increasingly suspicious gaze. “Don’t misunderstand. Although you’re really beautiful, I still prefer the innocent and cute type.”
Shen Yin glared at him. “Spit it out.”
“Ah, here’s the thing. There was a Maserati parked in front of the police station just now! You know, as police officers, our salary is so meager that we have to grit our teeth just to buy a car that costs ten thousand yuan. This car was so ostentatious that many colleagues went to take a look out of curiosity, but the man in the car rolled down the window. Guess what?”
Shen Yin closed her eyes and suppressed her irritation. “What?” she asked cooperatively.
Zou Sheng slapped his thigh hard. “Aiyo! That man specifically asked for you! Meng Heng rushed out when he heard about it. The two of them are talking about something outside.”
“Thank you.” Shen Yin suppressed her annoyance and turned to leave. Suddenly, she thought of something and turned to look at Zou Sheng, who was still standing there. “If you don’t want to be a police officer in the future, you can be a crosstalk artiste.”
Zou Sheng laughed out loud. “I’ll take that as a compliment, Beauty Shen!”
His smugness made Shen Yin want to bundle him up in a sack and beat him up to vent her anger.
However, the person at the door was clearly more troublesome than Zou Sheng.
As Shen Yin walked out of the police station, her colleagues studied her curiously.
Someone was standing unhappily in front of the car window at the bottom of the stairs. Another person with an arrogant expression had lazily put his hand out of the window.
“Meng Heng.” Shen Yin called out to the angry man.
When the latter heard her voice, he immediately put on a smile and strode over to her. “Sister, are you done? This person said he’s here to take you away. Are you close to him?”
Shen Yin glanced at the car indifferently. “No.”
Meng Heng smiled easily. His tense shoulders finally relaxed. “Then come up quickly after you’re done chatting. Brother Bai Xiao bought lunch just now. I’ll save a portion for you.”
Shen Yin smiled and nodded. “Okay, thanks.”
After Meng Heng left, Shen Yin slowly walked to the car window. Shen Yin was bewildered when she saw the gloomy man staring at her from the driver’s seat. “I heard you were looking for me?”
“Yes, and then a pretty boy came along.” Lian Jing stubbed out his cigarette and looked at her mockingly. “I didn’t know it was one of your hobbies.”
“Lian Jing!” Shen Yin’s anger rose. This man kept showing up just to annoy her?
She frowned impatiently. “Just tell me what’s on your mind.”
Lian Jing was silent for a moment before suddenly looking away in frustration. “My grandfather wants to see you.”
“No.” Shen Yin rejected him without a second thought.
Although Lian Jing did not know much about Shen Yin, he knew that this seemingly frail woman was actually very stubborn.
He stepped out of the car and softened his tone for once. “He’s an old man and he knows that I wronged you. He wants to apologize to you in person and thank you properly, that’s all.”
“Lian Jing.” Shen Yin fearlessly looked straight into his eyes, her red lips moving as she spoke. “I’ve already saved him. It’s your duty to make him happy. It has nothing to do with me.”
