Angry
“I’ve made a reservation at a restaurant. I don’t know what you like to eat, but if you let me know, I can make a new reservation.” As he drove, Lian Jing inhaled the scent that was uniquely hers.
Shen Yin looked calmly out the window. “Anything is fine. Will your grandfather be there too?”
Lian Jing paused for a moment and said in a low voice, “Grandpa can’t be discharged yet, but I can take you to the hospital to see him.”
“I still have something to do after dinner.” Shen Yin kept her distance from Lian Jing. Her intuition told her that this man was too domineering and dangerous. She must not be deceived by his seeming gentleness.
“What’s the matter? Why are you in such a hurry?” Lian Jing’s fingers tapped the steering wheel as was his habit. After asking this question, he felt inexplicably uncertain.
Damn it, was she going out with that kid after she had dinner with him?
Shen Yin suddenly turned to look at him. She narrowed her eyes wickedly. “My son is waiting for me to get home from work.”
The car jerked to a halt. Caught off guard, Shen Yin shot forward. Fortunately, her seat belt prevented her from hitting the dashboard.
But she was not angry at all. Instead, she looked at the livid Lian Jing with amusement. “Why? President Lian sent someone to investigate me. Surely you know that I have a six-year-old son?”
Lian Jing turned his head and glared at her. “You were married? And you had a child?”
“Yes.” Shen Yin nodded casually, not taking his anger seriously at all. “President Lian, do you still want to pester me, a divorced woman with a child?”
“Get out of the car!” Lian Jing did not know how to describe his current mood. He had thought about this woman day and night for the past few days, but it turned out that she had a six-year-old child. He felt like throttling her to quench his anger after finding out the truth.
Without another word, Shen Yin pushed open the car door and stepped out of the Maserati. She did not forget to turn around and provoke him contemptuously. “Then, President Lian, this time I’ll really won’t see you again!”
Shen Yin got out of the car and switched to a taxi. She smiled all the way home.
It was really too funny. When she thought of Lian Jing’s dark expression, the worries caused by his incessant pestering evaporated.
Before she could take out her key to open the door, Shen Nian had spotted her from the rooftop window and recognized her footsteps. He opened the door first and hugged her around waist in surprise. “Mom, why are you back so early? Godmother said you went on a date with a very rich man.”
Shen Yin looked daggers at someone who was sitting on the sofa, drinking tea. The latter grew uncomfortable under her gaze. She shook herself and went to the kitchen.
“Don’t listen to your godmother. I didn’t go on a date.” Shen Yin changed into her slippers and sprawled onto the sofa. She did not feel like moving.
But Shen Nian was not going to let her off the hook so easily. He grabbed her hand and interrogated her carefully. “Is that uncle good to you? As long as he’s good to you, Nian Nian is willing to have a father.”
“You want a father?” Shen Yin propped her head up, enjoying her son’s attention.
Shen Nian thought about it very earnestly, then replied seriously, “Mom, being alone is too hard on you. I’ll be very happy if there’s another person to dote on you.”
“Nian Nian,” Shen Yin used a toothpick to feed him a grape. “What about yourself?”
Shen Nian paused. Her big eyes suddenly darkened for a moment. Then, they flickered and stared at Shen Yin. “I don’t matter. I just want another person to take care of Mom.”
Shen Yin ruffled his hair. “I’m going to take a shower. If I meet the right one, I’ll think about it.”
Shen Nian smiled and agreed. Seeing Shen Yin enter the bathroom, he secretly took Shen Yin’s cell phone from her bag.
He remembered a slight change in his mother’s expression when she looked at her phone last night. He had an inexplicable feeling that it might have something to do with the rich man today.
He did not mean to pry into his mother’s chat history, but no matter how he scrolled through her contact list, he could not find any way to contact the man.
Shen Nian frowned and suddenly had an idea. His small fingers clicked on friend requests. He was stunned when he saw the person’s profile picture.
This person looked exactly like him!
Could it be the same person who had taken Mom away last time?
Judging by the limited edition watch on his wrist, this was obviously the only one of Mom’s friends who could afford to drive a Maserati.
He surreptitiously jotted down the man’s contact information, then glanced at the bathroom guiltily before carefully replacing the phone.
