138 Breaking In
Shen Yin looked helplessly at Li Zi and Cheng Huo, who were chatting happily like bosom friends. She decided to settle the bill first.
Cheng Huo quickly stopped her and handed her the membership card. “Just use this.”
Shen Yin took it suspiciously and went out to look for the waiter.
Before she could go downstairs, she heard hurried footsteps behind her.
She turned around vigilantly and narrowed her eyes at the man behind her, who had made so much noise.
The man staggered as he leaned against the wall. It was obvious that he was feeling extremely uncomfortable. When he saw her, his eyes widened and he stammered, “Sister-in-law.”
Shen Yin suddenly had an ominous feeling. She decisively turned and walked downstairs. She handed the membership card to the waitress and kept staring in the direction of the elevator. She did not notice that the waitress had used the card to pay the bill.
She handed the membership card back to Shen Yin and said with a smile, “Hope to see you again.”
Shen Yin looked at her blankly. “You haven’t told me how much the total is…”
The moment the words left her mouth, she realized what was going on. She sighed and walked out of the hotel to call Li Zi. “I’ll wait for you outside. I won’t go back.”
“Why?” Li Zi asked drunkenly, “Cheng Huo is really nice. I want to continue chatting with him.”
On the other end of the line, Cheng Huo took the phone with a smile. He was not drunk at all. “Why don’t you come up and sit for a while? There’s still a lot of food left.”
“No thanks.” Shen Yin turned around and looked at the empty lobby on the first floor. She heaved a sigh of relief. “Why don’t I leave your membership card at the front desk and you can get it yourself when you come down?”
“You’re in such a hurry that you’ll even leave your good friend behind? You’ve only known me for one day, but you trust me enough to leave her with me?” Cheng Huo teased in amusement. “Are you being chased by a dog? Why are you in such a hurry?”
She really felt that she was being chased by a dog.
Shen Yin sighed. It was inappropriate to leave a drunk girl like Li Zi here. She could only pray inwardly that she would not bump into Lian Jing and slowly walk back.
She pressed the elevator button and the elevator quickly descended from the second floor. The elevator doors opened with a ‘ding’. Shen Yin’s eyes widened when she saw the two men in the elevator. She cursed her bad luck.
Sure enough, here he was again.
She felt irritated, and the man in the elevator looked even worse. Only Shang Sheng smiled and he spoke first. “Sister-in-law, what a coincidence. Are you here to look for my brother? I knew it. It’s normal for a husband and wife to quarrel. Can’t either of you compromise a little?”
“You’ve misunderstood.” Shen Yin frowned and looked at Lian Jing. He had not told Shang Sheng? She had better explain. “Your brother and I aren’t married. Besides, I’m not here to look for him. I’m meeting a friend. Goodbye.”
Shen Yin turned and left. That man was still standing in the elevator, refusing to come out. But she could just take the stairs.
Shang Sheng was stunned when he heard that. He stared blankly at his brother, who was silently frowning. “The two of you are really angry! Brother, she won’t be easy to coax this time.”
Lian Jing frowned and walked out of the elevator. He did not even look at Shen Yin’s vanishing figure. He coldly walked out of the hotel. “Why should I coax her? We have nothing to do with each other.”
By now, Shang Sheng scarcely dared to breathe. He thought to himself that he had better discuss this matter with his grandfather. If the two of them were really not fated to be together, then it was just too bad. His brother was handsome, rich, and powerful. He would surely be able to find a stepmother for his son.
Lian Jing got into the car without a backward glance. He irritably instructed the chauffeur to drive back to the Lian residence.
The moment he saw Shen Yin, he recalled the slap from that night. His face still smarted.
This woman was really heartless. He had saved her life for nothing!
Lian Jing pulled off his tie angrily and flung it at a servant. He rubbed his tightly knitted brows and took out his phone to call Zhong Xin. “Go and find out who Shen Yin ate with at the National Phoenix Hotel tonight.”
Shen Yin returned to the private room and helped Li Zi up. “Can we go home and sleep?”
“Okay!” Li Zi was drunk and unusually submissive. She hugged Shen Yin around her shoulders and refused to let go.
Cheng Huo offered to send them back, but Shen Yin tactfully refused. “There’s no need to trouble you. We’ll just take a taxi back. By the way, this meal should be on me. I’ll return the clothes and money to you next time.”
Cheng Huo shook his head generously. “Am I such a petty person? It doesn’t matter if you don’t return it. After all, I like you very much… and your friend Li Zi too. All that matters is another chance to eat together in the future.”
“That’s a separate matter.” Shen Yin did not like being indebted to others. She shook her head in refusal before getting into a passing taxi and returning to Li Zi’s house.
As soon as she opened the door, Shen Yin could clearly sense an oppressive air in the house. She frowned and turned on the light. The light instantly filled the entire dark living room, but it could not illuminate the man’s gloomy face.
Shen Yin pretended not to see him. She helped Li Zi take off her coat and stuffed her under the blanket before walking into the living room with a cold expression. Her voice was filled with anger. “Who let you in?”
