146 Deadlock
The black car was silent for a moment. The wheels suddenly squealed against the ground, stirring up the sand on the ground and blinding Shen Yin.
By the time she brushed the dust out of her eyes, the black car had taken the opportunity to escape. It drove out of the alley and disappear into the crowded street.
Zou Sheng was worried about Shen Yin being alone outside the car, so he squeezed out of the driver’s seat with difficulty. Just as he walked behind Shen Yin, he choked on the sand and coughed until he could not speak.
Zou Sheng coughed. After clearing his throat, he spat out some sand before frowning and asking, “Sister, did you see who was in the car?”
Shen Yin shook her head and brushed the sand off her face. She walked back to the car expressionlessly and drove the car out of the alley to so that Zou Sheng could get in. Then the two of them returned to the police station by the main road.
“What’s wrong, Sister? Why are you covered in dust?” Meng Heng handed a tissue to Shen Yin worriedly, gesturing for her to go to the washroom to wash up.
Shen Yin took the tissue and walked into the washroom. Looking at her disheveled appearance in the mirror, she smiled wryly and splashed cold water on her face.
The car windows were made of one-way glass, so she could not see inside it. However, she believed that Zou Sheng would find the answer by checking the road surveillance cameras.
As she expected, she could hear Zou Sheng’s cheers in Team Three’s office while she was still in the washroom.
“Sister, I’ve traced the owner of the car.” Zou Sheng waved his hand excitedly, gesturing for her to look at the computer screen.
He pointed at the owner’s information on the screen and smiled. “It’s actually a woman! Sister, she even has the same surname as you!”
Shen Yin looked at the photo of the woman on the screen, and the smile on her face suddenly vanished.
It was her…
Zou Sheng could tell that something was wrong. He asked carefully, “Sister, is this person your relative?”
Shen Yin nodded expressionlessly. She had not expected to bump into this girl when she was out on a case.
“She is…” Zou Sheng restrained his excitement at finding a clue. He worriedly looked at Shen Yin’s grim expression. “How is she related to you?”
“She’s my cousin.” Shen Yin sighed and shook her head regretfully. “I thought she was related to the case. But it’s just someone inconsequential.”
She sat down and drank a cup of hot water. She started thinking about the case again, but Zou Sheng kept staring at her, making it difficult to ignore him.
Shen Yin looked at him in surprise and asked curiously, “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Sister, I’ve suddenly realized something,” Zou Sheng stared at her and said mysteriously.
Shen Yin’s eyes lit up, and she asked in surprise, “You’ve thought of a detail that we’ve missed?”
Zou Sheng shook his head. Under the puzzled gazes of the entire office, he slowly smiled. “Sister, I realized that you usually don’t wear make-up! I thought you were so beautiful because you were lightly made-up!”
Meng Heng rolled his eyes and busied himself about his work again.
Wu Zheng pursed his lips and continued to drink the hot water he was holding.
Shen Yin smiled helplessly and casually said, “Thank you.” Then, she leaned back in her chair and continued to trying to find a breakthrough in the case.
Zou Sheng was very dissatisfied with everyone’s reaction. He glanced at Meng Heng, who was secretly peeking at Shen Yin, and secretly cursed at him, “Useless.” Then, he continued to watch the footage in front of him.
Although this was Shen Yin’s cousin, she had followed them when they were on a case. They had to eliminate her as a suspect. Otherwise, the police would continue to keep an eye on her.
Zou Sheng watched the recording repeatedly and realized that this person had actually followed them as soon as they left Hu Jin’s house. However, it seemed unplanned and it had probably been a spur-of-the moment decision prompted by seeing Shen Yin.
As for why she did it, only this cousin and Shen Yin knew.
After eliminating her as a suspect, the case temporarily entered a stalemate. The trail had ended.
Shen Yin closed her eyes and tapped her fingers on the table. Suddenly, she thought of something and opened her eyes to look at Zou Sheng. “On the day of the murder, did Wang Gang go near the victim’s house or Rongsheng Restaurant?”
“Let me see.” Zou Sheng pulled out the surveillance footage and found the footage of the street near Rongsheng Restaurant that night. He shook his head. “No.”
Shen Yin nodded and pursed her lips. She suddenly stood up, picked up her car keys, and summoned Zou Sheng.
“Sister, where are we going?” Zou Sheng asked in confusion. He realized that following Shen Yin on an investigation was even more confusing than following Wu Zheng. He could not keep up with Shen Yin’s leaps in logic.
As Shen Yin walked, she said, “Just because the surveillance cameras did not show him on the street doesn’t mean there was no recording of him. Let’s go to the vicinity to investigate.”
Wu Zheng stood up and stopped them disapprovingly. “Perhaps we’ve suspected the wrong person from the beginning, which is why we’ve hit a roadblock. I suggest we start from another angle and stop investigating Wang Gang.”
Shen Yin stopped in her tracks and turned around to look at Wu Zheng firmly. “Captain, I have faith in my judgment. We’ll be back soon. Wait for our good news.”
