199 Uninvited Guest
Lian Jing angrily released her and glared at his son.
Shen Nian could not help but shudder. He glared coldly at Cheng Mu, who was not only annoying but also troublesome. “She’s my mother. You should address her as auntie!”
Cheng Mu made a face at Shen Nian, then hid behind Shen Yin and snorted arrogantly.
Shen Nian ground his teeth in rage. If she were not a girl, he would have beaten her up long ago.
Shen Yin smiled and pulled the girl out from behind her. She squatted down and asked, “How did you know that today is my birthday?”
Cheng Mu pointed at the expressionless Shen Nian. “He begged me to help him pick a gift.”
Shen Yin looked at her son in surprise. In the past few years, she and the boy had spent their birthdays alone. He would always bring her to the mall and let her pick whatever she liked before he generously paid the bill.
This was the first time he had asked someone for help. Besides, he had asked Cheng Mu, whom he disliked.
When Shen Nian saw her looking over in surprise, he snorted and looked away proudly. “It’s different this year. Daddy will also prepare a gift for you. I asked Cheng Mu, because she’s also a girl. I asked her to come up with ideas so that I won’t lose to Daddy.”
When he said that, Shen Yin grew curious about the gift.
She stood up and cradled the gift in her hand. “Can I open it and take a look?”
Shen Nian nodded nervously, staring straight at Shen Yin, so he could see her expression.
He had to bring this annoying person home so that he could choose this gift. If his mother did not like it, he would have suffered a huge loss!
Shen Yin carefully opened the package and saw the embroidered knitted scarf lying inside. She smiled in surprise and said, “What made you think of giving me this?”
Shen Nian looked at Cheng Mu shyly, then pursed his lips and said with an uncomfortable blush, “This scarf represents eternal love. Mom, happy birthday. I will love you forever.”
Shen Nian’s voice became softer and softer, but Shen Yin still heard him clearly.
She hugged Shen Nian, her heart filled with joy. “Thank you, Nian Nian. I really like this gift.”
Only then did Shen Nian relax and smile. He looked at Cheng Mu in a friendlier manner.
Cheng Mu had been paying attention to what was going on. Her heart skipped a beat when Shen Nian no longer looked at her coldly and irritably. She hurriedly looked away. She smiled at Lian Jing and asked, “Uncle, what gift did you prepare?”
Lian Jing snorted and pulled Shen Yin upstairs. Unexpectedly, Cheng Mu quietly grabbed the corner of Shen Yin’s sleeve and pulled her away before whispering, “Sister, my brother is also here to celebrate your birthday!”
Shen Yin looked at the innocent looking little girl in shock. She suddenly turned around and met Lian Jing’s deep black eyes. Her heart skipped a beat and she asked guiltily, “Where is he?”
Cheng Mu was still smiling sweetly. She fearlessly met Lian Jing’s cold gaze. “He’s nearby. You can see him if you leave the house and turn right.”
Shen Yin straightened up and shook her head. “I’m not going. Ask him to go back.”
Cheng Mu looked at her awkwardly. “Sister, Brother said that if you don’t come out, he’ll come in himself.”
Cheng Huo wanted to enter the Lian residence? Surely a fight would break out?
Shen Yin rubbed her temples in frustration and nodded. “Alright, but only this once. You can come to our house in the future, but don’t bring your brother along. You’re very smart. You should understand what I mean.”
Cheng Mu pouted pitifully, but her bright eyes were filled with anticipation. “Got it, Sister. Go quickly.”
Shen Yin wanted to send Cheng Huo away, but Lian Jing was staring at her covetously from behind. It would be no easy task to escape.
She sighed and approached Lian Jing with a smile. She grabbed his collar and coaxed, “It’s my birthday today. I want to have soup that you’ve made yourself, okay?”
“Okay.” Lian Jing pretended not to see Shen Yin’s vexed expression just now. He lowered his eyes and agreed calmly. He turned around, rolled up his sleeves, and walked into the kitchen.
Shen Yin heaved a sigh of relief and walked out of the Lian residence alone while Lian Jing was washing the vegetables.
Sure enough, there was a familiar car parked on the right side of the road. When Cheng Huo saw her coming, he rolled down the window and smoke immediately gushed out. He raised his hand and pointed to the seat beside him. “Get in.”
“No need.” Shen Yin shook her head and said coldly, “I came to thank you for coming personally to celebrate my birthday, but my family is waiting for me. I can’t stay for too long.”
Cheng Huo’s bright eyes dimmed for a moment. He stubbed out his cigarette in frustration. “If you don’t get into the car, I’ll go in.”
Shen Yin frowned at him and saw him roll up the window, waiting for her to choose.
Shen Yin closed her eyes, opened the car door on the other side, and got in. “Tell me, what’s the matter?”
“Don’t treat me so coldly. We used to get along very well.” Cheng Huo turned his head to look at her. “I just wanted to see you.”
