299 Chance Encounter
“It is important!” Lian Meng pulled her hand aside. As she dialed the number, she muttered, “Sister-in-law, you have to know that my brother has publicly acknowledged that you are his girlfriend and his only son’s biological mother. No one can compare to you in terms of status. Even if my brother really cheated, you must not let him off easily. You have to extort at least a house, a few cars, and a few hundred million yuan in savings, right? You can’t raise his son for nothing!”
Shen Yin shook her head in amusement. This Lian Meng was indeed a good and sincere girl. She had resolutely chosen to stand on her side when she was about to part ways with her brother. This was a great comfort to Shen Yin, who had never experienced the warmth of a family.
However, she knew that she would not take Lian Jing’s money. If the two of them really separated, she hoped that they would not interact with each other anymore. She did not want to owe him anything.
Shen Nian was more realistic and ruthless than Shen Yin. He did not stop Auntie from calling to verify. Instead, he seriously considered Auntie’s words just now and nodded matter-of-factly. “Mom, Auntie is right. I will earn money when I grow up in the future, but you deserve your share. I won’t take your money, but you can’t let my scumbag biological father take advantage of you either. Men can’t be too spoiled.”
“How would you know?” Shen Yin smiled and tapped his little nose.
With these two people fooling around beside her, her depressed mood lifted a little. Her gloominess dissipated and now she had the courage to completely give up on this relationship.
However, Lian Meng did not know that her consoling words had had the opposite effect. Otherwise, she would have swallowed those words on the spot.
Sui Ran’s work and rest habits were obviously much healthier than Shang Sheng’s. Perhaps it was because he had a girlfriend now. When he picked up the phone, he was actually eating breakfast.
Lian Meng was still on speaker phone, eager to know the truth. She went straight to the point and asked, “Brother Sui Ran, tell me, how did you meet that woman?”
“Which woman?” Sui Ran looked at her girlfriend and asked with a frown, “Are you talking about Chen Hui?”
“No!” It took Lian Meng a while to remember Mo Ru’s name.
Sui Ran did not want to talk about this in front of his girlfriend. He coughed and said, “I’ll tell you later. Where are you? I can look for you later.”
Lian Meng could not wait any longer and urged him anxiously.
Only then did Sui Ran helplessly take the phone and walk into the living room. He lowered his voice and said, “Why are you asking about this? I met Mo Ru at a ball. She said that she was attending the ball on behalf of her boss, but I didn’t ask which company she was from. I actually didn’t have much contact with her. We only added each other’s contact details for the sake of networking. She’s not my type.”
Lian Meng thought that she would be able to get some useful information about Mo Ru from Sui Ran, a relatively reliable person. She did not expect him to know so little about that woman.
Shen Yin was a forensic pathologist and had encountered all kinds of cases. If she still could not smell a rat, it could only mean that her professional standards were too low.
No one would believe that the encounter between Mo Ru and Sui Ran was a coincidence.
“What about my brother and Mo Ru? How long have they known each other and how many times have they met?” Lian Meng asked the question she was most concerned about, right on the heels of the first question.
As expected, Sui Ran’s answer was as she had guessed. Her brother and Mo Ru had only met twice, just like Shang Sheng. The difference was that Lian Jing had never looked at her.
By now, Shen Yin also sensed that something was wrong. After she hung up the phone, she frowned and repeatedly pondered the timeline of events. She could not help but mutter, “So when Lian Jing said that he knew her before, he was referring to the time he went to play with Shang Sheng and the others.”
Shen Yin remembered that Lian Jing had mentioned that he wanted to bring her along that day. This meant that Lian Jing really did not know Mo Ru before this.
Then the issue had arisen that night. Why had the two of them acted so intimately?
After thinking about it, she could only come up with one answer. Her brother was jealous.
Just as she was thinking about how to explain it to Shen Yin, someone knocked on the door.
Lian Meng immediately stood up hostilely. She walked to the door and asked coldly, “Who is it?”
Outside the door, Cheng Mu answered obediently in a coquettish voice, “There are two uncles outside who want to see Sister Shen. Brother said that if Sister doesn’t want to see them, she can stay in the house. He will chase them away.”
“It’s my brother!” Lian Meng apologized to Shen Yin gloomily. “My brother must have followed me. Sister-in-law, do you want to go out with me to see my brother?”
Shen Yin more or less knew that Lian Jing had nothing to do with Mo Ru, but she still felt uncomfortable when she thought of them hugging last night. She shook her head and said, “I won’t go. You persuade your brother to leave. Nian Nian will stay with me.”
