310 Turning into a Doll
Shen Nian had hit his head hard when he hit the wall. At that time, he felt a little dizzy, but he had forgotten about it in his anxiety over Cheng Mu. Now that the doctor had taken an X-ray, he realized that there was a huge bump on the back of his head.
The doctor looked at the results of the examination and pushed his reading glasses up the bridge of his nose. With a serious expression, he said, “There’s a slight concussion. You need to rest at home and pay attention to your diet. Come to the hospital for a follow-up in a few days.”
“Okay, thank you, doctor.” Lian Jing put on a stern face and expressionlessly carried his son out to look for Shen Yin.
On the way, Shen Nian obediently hugged his father’s shoulder and nervously stole a glance at his expression. “Dad, have you already started to deal with Cui Hao’s family?”
Lian Jing stopped in his tracks and looked at his son’s worried face. He said calmly, “Don’t you want me to avenge you?”
Shen Nian shook his head gently and said, “I can avenge myself.”
“Really?” Lian Jing raised his eyebrows in disbelief.
However, Shen Nian’s expression was solemn. “Dad, you have to believe in your son’s abilities. I’ve inherited your wisdom.”
His words pleased Lian Jing. A smile appeared on his tense face. “Alright, but if you don’t handle it well, don’t blame me for punishing you.”
“There’s a punishment?” Shen Nian widened his eyes in disbelief. In an instant, his eyes became smug. “Alright, a man has to keep his word. If I handle it well, you must not stop Mom from kissing me. If I lose, I’ll accept the punishment.”
“It’s a deal.”
The father and son secretly reached an agreement. When they returned to the ward, they were still smiling happily.
Cheng Mu finally woke up while Lian Jing brought Shen Nian for a check-up.
The first thing the little girl did when she opened her eyes was not to check where she was, but to look for Shen Nian. When she saw Shen Yin, her eyes were filled with self-reproach. “Sister, I’m sorry. I didn’t take good care of Nian Nian. I let him to be bullied. How is Nian Nian now?”
“Nian Nian is fine.” Shen Yin sighed and sat by the bed guiltily. She helped her sit up and lean against the pillow at the head of the bed. She smiled and poured her a cup of hot water. “Drink some water to moisten your throat first. Nian Nian’s father has brought him for a checkup. He should be back soon.”
“That’s good.” Cheng Mu took the cup and gulped the water down. She stared at the door without blinking.
Cheng Luo had gone out to make a call and now she returned. When she saw that Cheng Mu was awake, she happily summoned the doctor to do another checkup. After confirming that Cheng Mu was fine, she heaved a sigh of relief. “You almost scared me to death. Why did you fall down the stairs?”
Cheng Mu hesitated for a moment, but she told the truth about what had happened in school just now. It was exactly as Shen Nian had said. It was obvious that the two children were not lying.
Shen Yin’s heart ached as she stroked her hair. “Thank you, Mu Mu, for saving Nian Nian, but you have to prioritize your own safety next time, understand? It’s dangerous to fall down the stairs like this.”
“I was panicked.” Cheng Mu rubbed the back of her head in embarrassment. When she suddenly touched the wound, it hurt and she immediately screamed.
Shen Yin hurriedly pulled her hand down and coaxed her softly, “You’ve hit your head. For now, you musn’t lie down flat when you sleep. Be careful not to press against your wound. The doctor said that you’ll be fine after recuperating for a while. Oh right, what do you want to eat? I’ll buy it for you.”
Cheng Mu recovered from the pain in her head and her face was flushed as she fiddled with her fingers. “I, I don’t want to eat. I just want to see how Nian Nian is doing now.”
“You still have to eat something.” Shen Yin knew that Cheng Mu had always taken good care of Shen Nian, but she did not know that Cheng Mu was so good to him. The relationship between children was so passionate and pure. If her son could really grow up with her as childhood sweethearts, Shen Yin quite liked this girl as her daughter-in-law.
While they were talking in the room, Lian Jing carried Shen Nian back from the checkup.
The moment Cheng Mu saw Shen Nian, her eyes widened. Her eyes sparkled as she looked at the cute doll in his father’s arms. She could not be blamed for liking Shen Nian so much. He looked so cute and childish, like the doll she used to play with when she was young. Her motherly instincts overflowed whenever she saw Shen Nian.
Shen Nian pushed his father’s shoulder and asked him to put him down. Then, he walked steadily to the bed and looked straight at her. “Does your head still hurt?”
“Oh it really hurts.” Cheng Mu frowned pitifully. She cupped the wound at the back of her head and secretly peeped under her eyelashes to see his reaction.
Shen Nian pursed his lips and hesitated for a while. In the end, he suddenly bowed deeply to her in front of everyone. “Thank you for saving me. I will repay you. Tell me what you want.”
Cheng Mu instantly panicked. She lifted the blanket and was about to get off the bed when Cheng Luo stopped her from acting rashly. She sat awkwardly on the bed and said with a smile. “Get up quickly. Don’t bow. I did not save you for the sake of a reward.”
