Vol. 1 - Ch. 1 - Magic of Big Data

"Ah...I'm so exhausted." After returning home, Li Han collapsed onto his bed and checked the time. It was 9:20 p.m., April 21, 2020. Just three days ago, he turned 26 years old. Currently, he is a car sales agent at a Mercedes-Benz dealership. His performance was average, and his income was not particularly high, but he had to work a lot of overtime.(T/N: Typical chinese mc)

After a day of work, he returned to his rental apartment exhausted.

But he still forced himself to freshen up first because he knew that once he laid down, he wouldn't want to get up again. 

"I really want to quit..." Li Han sighed and murmured to himself, and then adjusted himself into a comfortable position.

He opened the D-Station app and began scrolling through videos. He intended to watch until he fell asleep and ended the day.

But, as he was about to reply to a comment on a video, he accidentally clicked on an advertisement below the video. An installation program for an app appeared on his screen, and before Li Han could react, the app began installing on his phone. 

"What the hell, it's already installed before I even clicked 'confirm'? Damn, it's malware!" Li Han grumbled. 

But before he could exit the program, a gentle female voice rang out in his head.

"The Big Data App's unstable beta version has been installed and can be used at any time. Do you need an immediate explanation of how to use the app?" 

"Who!? Who's speaking?!" Li Han was startled, and looked around but found no one else in his apartment. It seemed the voice spoke directly in his head. 

Li Han started suspecting he was going crazy, but to reassure himself of the situation, he asked, "What is the Big Data app?" 

"The Big Data app has two uses," the female voice explained in detail, "1. By using big data to sell products, you can earn big data points. The transaction value determines the reward value.

Li Han picked up his phone and noticed that he had a Big Data app. 

After logging in, the primary interface showed his personal information as "Li Han: Analyst LV1 (Newbie)," and there was an "Experience" bar beside it with the indicator currently at 0.

Outside the primary interface was a shop page displaying "100 DP." 

After clicking on it, he saw various "Big Data point" consumer items, ranging from those worth a few dozen to tens, hundreds, thousands, and even tens of thousands of DPs. As he had guessed, these "consumer items" were actually like the big data pushes in the video websites, pushing clients to similar videos based on the videos they had watched. 

The usage of consuming Big Data points should work the same way as well, except that it pushes various items such as love interests, financial products, operational guidelines, and a variety of other projects. 

But at the moment, he focused on how to earn Big Data points through big data analysis. 

Li Han decided to research it first and see if this app could really allow him to see various big data about his target. 

He opened the "Cat House Live Broadcast" app and clicked into a female anchor's room. 

"Show her love big data," Li Han instructed.

Soon, the big data of this female anchor appeared in front of Li Han and floated around her.

But this proved that the ability of the big data app was indeed real. This app enables users to view any big data about the target. 

Although it displayed only the most distinctive data, the data was enough to infer the character of the person. 

"Then, show her consumer big data," Li Han instructed again.

For example, for this female anchor, if he recommended cars with a more conspicuous appearance, she would be more willing to pay.

After a successful transaction, he would receive "Big Data points." Then he could use these "Big Data points" to allow the system to calculate the most suitable girlfriend or financial product for him, or even calculate lottery winning numbers. 

Although it sounded mysterious, big data can actually achieve these things. 

For example, in the field of finance, banks use customer behavioral data to classify customers into different levels of risk control and decide whether to grant loans. In the medical field, Big Data can predict diseases that a customer may be prone to, based on their DNA, family history, and lifestyle data. 

"It seems true..." Li Han muttered to himself. His heartbeat accelerated: the thing he needed more than anything now, was money. 

There were many financial projects pushed in the app, but financial investment required capital. 

So, the most suitable project now should be "calculating lottery winning numbers." 

But, calculating the first prize required consuming 5,000 big data points. 

"5,000 points!" Li Han almost spat blood. "Then what's the use of these 100 big data points?" 

The system explained, "The easier it is to calculate the result, the fewer big data points are consumed. The more data and calculations required to get a result, the more big data points are consumed." 

After hearing this, Li Han understood: for projects with high randomness, like lotteries, it is generally impossible to calculate them through big data analysis. If a Big Data analysis is carried out, one can only analyze it based on humidity, air pressure, room temperature, the material of the double-color ball and the operation of the lottery machine at that time. So, they need to use up to 5,000 data points.
