Chapter 227: No Regrets
Mrs. Cessley reminisced about that young boy with black hair that suddenly visited the duke’s residence in the middle of the night long ago, which she hadn’t thought of for a long time. The young boy who was fifteen at that time shined his eyes with deep purple colors towards Mrs. Cessley as he spoke with confidence in his voice. “I wish for you to work under me instead of my mother, the queen.”
At that period in time, the Queen Mother was exerting the most power in politics. As the Queen Mother had taken the position of regency instead of the young son, she slowly coaxed those snake-like nobles while steadily increasing her power.
Although the young boy hiding behind the skirt of his own mother had a different spirit than others, he was still a young child who doesn’t know a lot of things about the world. Watching the young boy king, Mrs. Cessley thought that if he was planning to regain the power from the queen mother, he would still need a few more years to even begin.
Therefore she didn’t want at all even the thought of wanting to go against the queen mother for a young boy like this. She and her husband were currently quite respected highly among nobles and were living a quiet peaceful lifestyle, so she didn’t want to ruin this life she was living at all.
However, the young boy came back to her looking completely different even though only a few days had passed. The young boy’s eyes were cold and subsided as if he had turned into a completely different person, and Mrs. Cessley found herself wanting to help him out as she looked into his eyes.
This young boy definitely has a goal that he is wishing to achieve. Whether that was for political power or something else, this boy was definitely ready to throw away his life in order to gain the chance of completing his goal.
He started outlining a concrete plan out to Mrs. Cessley, who had a hard time believing that those words were coming from a fifteen-year-old boy, as he started to persuade Mrs. Cessley to work for him.
“You will never regret making this choice. I swear that I will make that the case.”
Those words shook Mrs. Cessley’s heart. Her peaceful yet boring life, it may be fine to continue living like this, but hearing how she could shape the future through helping this young king was extremely tempting.
Though he was fearless and brave back then, right now he was living every day in trembling in fear. Basil sighed multiple times lamenting that he doesn’t know when was the last time Igor actually slept properly. He’s not a timid person at all usually, so why is he so timid when it comes to things that concern the queen?
Mrs. Cessley let out a light sigh, then focused right into organizing the pile of letters. The letters that came from home and abroad all over were so many that it was enough to completely cover the whole table.
She was already used to doing this job of opening the letter, reading only the important parts and organizing it according to the subject. As she was quickly sorting through the mails that way, a mail with a symbol that looked familiar to her caught her eye.
In the center of the envelope was the drawing of a symbol where two lions were facing each other. There was also a red wax seal that kept the envelope closed, which had the pattern of a swan on it.
“…Princess Chrichton?”
From her knowledge, Mrs. Cessley definitely knew that the symbol indicated that it was symbolizing that the letter was from the Chrichton royal family, as well as their princess. It was definitely suspicious that the mail that the royal family of Chrichton had sent to her personally was mixed up in this pile. Letters like those were usually given directly to the queen via the messenger dispatched by the royal family.
Mrs. Cessley grappled with her mind for a moment whether it would be okay to open this letter. For the letters that are personal to her such as letters she sends and receives from the queen mother, Mrs. Cessley made sure that she didn’t open those mails at all and hand them directly to Rihannan instead. If it is a mail from Princess of Chrichton, it must be a personal mail, would it really be okay to just leave it like that?
While organizing the other letters, her mind was still filled with thoughts that it was strange and suspicious. The fact that Princess of Chrichton had ignored the official procedures of sending and receiving mails and had sent her this mail to her like this felt very suspicious to Mrs. Cessley. The Princess definitely wouldn’t have known that it would be mixed up in this large pile of random letters instead of being given directly to her.
After grappling with her mind for a while, Mrs. Cessley ripped the seal and opened the letter, unfolding to read the contents. After reading the whole contents of the letter, Mrs. Cessley’s face became completely pale while. She then ran out of the place immediately.
