A Question Mark
Cheng Lang’s hand paused. He put down the coffee and opened his email. Other than the email last night, she had not sent anything else.
Was she angry?
Cheng Lang lowered his eyes and typed on the keyboard with his slender fingers. He sent an empty email—with only a question mark—to Xing Shu. Unfortunately, Xing Shu did not reply by the time the overseas video conference began.
Meanwhile—after more than an hour of flight time—Xing Shu arrived at the neighboring city. She then took a local bus to the town where Lirong Corporation was located.
Xing Shu freshened up before walking to the reception counter of Lirong Corporation. The scale of Lirong Corporation—a five-storey office building—was not big. There was a low factory—a kilometer away—that was staffed by residents of the town. Xing Shu had previously done a background check on the boss of Lirong Company—President Chen had returned to his hometown to start a business after graduating from college. He became a multimillionaire at a young age and brought along his townsfolk on the road of prosperity. If she wanted to convince such a person, the temptation of money and benefits was definitely not enough.
“I’m sorry, Miss Xing. President Chen is still busy and not available,” the lady at the reception counter said apologetically.
Xing Shu maintained her smile and pointed at the couch in the hall. “Then we’ll wait here.”
The staff at the reception counter could not refuse and brought tea over. Hu Jie looked displeased as she sat down, complaining that Lirong Corporation was parsimonious—their company headquarters was still in a small town, after so many years.
“Xing Shu, why did we have to make a trip here personally? Without Lirong Corporation, there are still other companies. We should not have lowered ourselves like this. After all, we represent Cheng Corporation Group. It’s too degrading for us to come here like this. Your decision is very unwise.” The reason why Hu Jie did not say it before she came but chose to say it now was because she had just received a message from the Human Resources Department informing her about the Director’s decision to have her replace Xing Shu as the Manager of the
M&A
Department! As such, she need not fear Xing Shu!
Xing Shu placed the laptop on her knees and glanced at Hu Jie. “Have you studied the data on Lirong’s market share, cash flow, and sales forecast?”
Hu Jie’s face stiffened and she felt even more indignant—
how dare Xing Shu disrespect her in front of the other two staff!
Xing Shu’s fingertips slid across the laptop. Although there was no purchase agreement, she had done an in-depth analysis of Lirong Corporation’s projections. Lirong Corporation may not be big, but it had a high profit margin. There were no packaging fees, engineering design fees, advertising sales, and a lot of other fees—greatly reducing the cost of the product. It became a long-term supplier of Cheng Corporation Group all because of its good reputation—a reason good enough for her to make the trip personally.
Xing Shu quietly read the information in her hand, then looked up at the three staff in front of her. “Prepare your reports.”
Hu Jie was surprised. “What report?” The other two male colleagues also frowned. “You mean the purchase agreement? Hasn’t that been rejected by the Director?”
Xing Shu took a deep breath. “Apart from the purchase agreement, our due diligence report, Lirong Corporation’s sales channels, logistics, and so on are all our leverage to convince President Chen.”
Hu Jie did not think that this would be a difficult bid at all—and did not even bring her laptop. “There’s no need to go through so much trouble. We flew here—isn’t that the greatest show of our sincerity already?”
“Hu Jie!” Xing Shu’s voice suddenly turned glacial. “If you continue to have this mentality, you can go back. I didn’t ask you to come over to crack wise. As employees, you don’t even bring the basic company information. Then why are you here? For afternoon tea?”
Hu Jie’s face alternated between green and white. She had a cordial relationship with Xing Shu. But today, Xing Shu had embarrassed her repeatedly. Recalling the messages sent to her by the Human Resources Department, she immediately exploded. “This is all your fault! What right do you have to criticize me? If you had begged the Director, we wouldn’t have to come to this godforsaken place!” Hu Jie stood up and left. She then forwarded the messages sent to her by the Human Resources Department to the two male colleagues. She was the Manager now.
Who did Xing Shu think she was?! She was a pitiful woman who had been cuckolded by her fiancé. Now, she even lost her job, which she probably did not know yet. Hehe, she would not tell Xing Shu just yet. After Xing Shu settled everything, she would produce the purchase agreement and sign the contract with President Chen. Then, all of Xing Shu’s efforts would be expended on her behalf and all the credit would be hers!
