Am I Dreaming?

“No need, Uncle Liu. Miss Xing Shu just has a normal fever,” Jian Yaochuan explained.

However, Liu Song was someone who could not stay idle. In the end, he went to the kitchen to prepare chicken soup. At the thought of Xing Shu’s slight frame, he instructed the kitchen to prepare nourishing food.

Hands clasped behind his back, Liu Song supervised the work in the kitchen. All the servants in the manor were extremely curious. Cheng Lang had always been very aloof and there were only a few people who could visit Manor No. 1. Although Xing Shu had only been here twice, she was carried in by Cheng Lang each time.

“Will Miss Xing Shu be the future mistress of the manor? But aren’t Sir and Miss Jin a couple?”

“That’s right. Miss Jin is very beautiful and comes from a good family background. She’s also very dedicated to her research work overseas. Of course, Miss Xing Shu isn’t bad either. I wonder which family she’s from.”

Liu Song heard the servants’ idle talk and coughed twice. The servants quickly fell silent. Liu Song carried the soup to the second floor and knocked on the door gently. After a restless night, Xing Shu was still asleep. Liu Song waited for a while before turning around and going to the adjacent study.

Cheng Lang was still in a meeting. He was wearing a suit and looked calm. Liu Song did not want to disturb him and brought a cup of coffee in. Cheng Lang glanced at him and asked, “Is she awake?”

Liu Song’s eyes lit up. When Cheng Lang was working, he would not ask about irrelevant matters. He replied excitedly, “She’s not awake yet. I had the kitchen prepare chicken soup. It’s being kept warm in the kitchen.”

“Okay.” Cheng Lang shifted his focus back to the computer. “Continue.”

Liu Song saw that Cheng Lang was going back to work, so he quietly left.

Xing Shu was woken up by the ringtone of her cell phone. She touched the bottom of her pillow—but the moment she moved—she felt an intense pain in her fingers. She was instantly jolted to consciousness and surveyed the surroundings slowly. This was Manor No.1; and this was Cheng Lang’s room.

Xing Shu had a high fever the entire night. Her fever had subsided. But she was very dehydrated and her lips were dry and cracked. She struggled to get up. Just then, the door opened. Cheng Lang looked at her, holding a tray.

Xing Shu was still trying to get out of the bed when Cheng Lang walked over and held a glass of water to her mouth. Xing Shu’s hands were all bandaged up like steamed buns, and could not hold the glass herself. She sipped the water as Cheng Lang held the glass to her mouth. She caught a whiff of the chicken soup, as she licked her lips after drinking the water.

Cheng Lang put down the tray—took a spoon—and scooped a mouthful of chicken soup to Xing Shu’s mouth. Xing Shu was surprised at the unexpected tenderness and blinked slowly. “Young Uncle, am I dreaming?”

Cheng Lang stopped dead in his tracks and put down the soup bowl. The servant waiting at the door was very perceptive and quickly came in—picking up the bowl to carefully feed Xing Shu. Xing Shu instantly kicked herself for her big mouth. If she had not said that, she might have been able to enjoy Cheng Lang’s rare moment of tenderness. She did not dare to ask Cheng Lang to continue.

Xing Shu managed to gather enough strength to get out of bed after finishing the chicken soup. The servant had already left, and there were only the two of them in the room. The sun was shining brightly outside. Cheng Lang sat on a chair in front of the window, his fingers flying on the keyboard.

Xing Shu had pulled herself out of the fear and agitation from last night. It was so quiet that she was a little bored. She went over to Cheng Lang and caught a whiff of his refreshing scent as she neared him. Then, she glanced at the computer screen. “Fenglei Group? Young Uncle, you want to buy this company?”

The scale of Cheng Corporation Group was immense. They made their fortune from semiconductors in the beginning. Later, when they realized the impact of transistors in the future, they turned their focus to transistors. The first generation of processors in China came from the Cheng family. This was a rapidly developing industry. Over the years, the Cheng family had become the preeminent leader in transistor processors. However, Cheng Lang began streamlining the portfolio after he took over the reins, leaving only two core businesses. He also sold a few subsidiary businesses and obtained a billion yuan of cash inflow for Cheng Corporation Group. At that time, everyone thought the streamlining was due to Cheng Corporation Group facing cash flow problems. However, Cheng Lang spent the next one year in an aggressive campaign of acquisitions. Today, Cheng Corporation Group holds a diversified portfolio of numerous luxury brands. There were some who joked that Cheng Lang was a corporate raider; perpetually in acquisition mode. A few years back, a financial newspaper had even exaggerated that if one were to stand at Cheng Corporation Group and look down, everything belonged to them.
