Chapter 410: The Systems’ Preparations

“I see, so that was Chenger.” Compass Carburettor said in surprise, gazing at the mist from above, noticing her figure within.

Indeed, just like him, she had attacked an Essence Beast that had an Attribute Strengthening Spark. But like him, she had killed it instead.

“Well, that’s perfect for me.” He grinned as his Essence Beast stole all the orbs of the dead Essence Beast, shocking Chenger, causing her to gaze upwards to see his figure within it.

The Essence Beast was ethereal in nature, possessing a semi-transparent body. So, she was able to perceive his figure within it, scowling in anger, “Compass!”

Boom!

Chenger unleashed a gust of mist, using it as a thrust as she flew towards the Essence Beast like a rocket. But suddenly, when she approached its proximity, the Essence Beast vanished, alarming her. “What the heck? Where did he go?”

This was the reason she was unable to locate him. And using this chance, Compass Carburettor probed through her mind, peeking inside for a moment before blood began to drip out from his nose as his Mind Connect was severed.

“Dammit!”

“So, you’ve arrived, Compass Carburettor.” In Chenger’s mind, seated atop a pile of memories originating from her almost 1000 years of existence was a fawn, grinning when it noticed a thin stream of energy enter the place.

Destiny Luck System!

“As expected, she’s destined to kill you.” It grinned, flicking a memory like it was a bullet, causing it to slam into the streak of energy, dissipating it.

The rebound severed their connection as Compass Carburettor grunted, “I see, the Destiny Luck System is living in her mind. Indeed, there’s no way the Systems would remain in a passive situation.”

He had probed through the minds of countless people. And one similarity in all of them was the fact that their memories were always in a disarray, like fish in water and they were constantly in motion.

But shockingly, all the memories in Chenger’s mind formed a pile. And…the Destiny Luck System seemed capable of manipulating them. This meant that it was capable of influencing her thoughts and actions to a certain extent, like a pilot piloting a mech.

“So, you’re here!” Chenger cursed in anger upon noticing the Essence Beast appear before her once again. But right as she was about to take action, the Essence Beast vanished.

Thump! Thump!

For some reason, her heart shuddered as Chenger unleashed a gust of mist, rapidly reading the ground, shuddering in response for some reason.

She then gazed at the figure of the Essence Beast flying away slowly, “Dammit!”

Bam!

Her protective ring shattered, turning into dust, shocking her, for it was a priceless artifact that was capable of absorbing damage in her stead, basically giving her an extra life.

And the fact that it was used up meant that Compass Carburettor had retaliated against her.

“Die!” Right as she planned to trail after him, a cultivator ambushed her.

Boom!

Chenger erupted with the aura of her Heaven Martial Spirit, causing the attacker to collapse to the ground, missing his aim. She then waved her sword, beheading him swiftly.

In one fluid action, she checked his corpse, spitting in mockery, “Poor bastard.”

But, she didn’t have time to think about Compass Carburettor again as a group of cultivators surrounded her, each emitting killing intent.

“She has a lot of treasures.”

“This fucker kidnapped my parents. Kill her!” Two among the crowd possessed Earth Martial Spirits, capable of enduring the suppression she emanated as they attacked her immediately.

Their attacks mitigated her suppression, causing the rest of the cultivators to target her freely as they hurled attacks one after another.

From the air, Compass Carburettor observed this scene, actually unhappy about it, recalling the scene at the inn as he turned his head, no longer focusing on Chenger, “The time isn’t right yet.”

The one that had instigated this crowd was indeed a Sleeper Cell that he activated to keep Chenger away from him. It was a throwaway Sleeper Cell that he had created just recently, so he didn’t place much importance on that.

At present, something strange was happening with his Essence Beast. And with his experience, he understood that something beneficial would happen if proceeded in the right direction.

And, fighting against Chenger at this moment would only destroy his plans. “Besides, she’s strong.”

When he probed her mind, he saw the figure of the Destiny Luck System within, making him realise that he wouldn’t be able to target her mind for the time being. But, that didn’t mean he didn’t have options.

Origin Arts—Mental Destruction!

By expending half his Origin Essence, Compass Carburettor unleashed a destructive energy in Chenger’s Mind, one that began to destroy her memories, causing the Destiny Luck System to take action.

And that was where he found out that the Destiny Luck System had established a domain of luck within Chenger’s mind. This implied that if he persisted in destroying her mind, he was destined to die.

But, the reason he wasn’t flustered was because he was able to grasp his foe’s foundation. Even though she was terrifyingly powerful, he now had a minor idea about what the Luck-based System had planned in this operation.

They implanted memories related to the usage of their abilities in their Hosts. This meant that such memories would serve as their weapons in the minds of their Hosts. And using that, they would be able to affect the Hosts, influencing their actions subtly to generate the effect of luck.

This was intrinsically created. And that wasn’t all, through the memories, the Systems influenced the bodies of their Hosts, causing them to at times perform abilities that were almost on the level of Skills.

“It means that they fully understand the properties of Origin Essence and can actuate it through this manner.” He frowned. After all, these abilities almost on par with Skills wouldn’t be used by the System Hosts, but they would be direct attacks from the Systems themselves.

That was why he had taken damage while his retaliation was blocked by Chenger.

“To think they would create a way to use their System abilities even when System abilities are sealed.”
