Chapter 534: Chapter 534: The Abandoned Military Camp
Song Jian suddenly sensed an uproar of the Force of Death within Naso and immediately realized what he intended to do.
“Self-destruction? Attempting to achieve mutual destruction?” Song Jian narrowed his eyes as a flicker of coldness formed at the corner of his mouth.
Naso, sensing his impending death, had chosen self-destruction. As part of the Death’s Scythe, he feared no death. As long as his soul remained intact, there were many ways for him to revive within the Death’s Scythe.
Whoosh~
A chilling glint crossed Song Jian’s face. Just before the Force of Death within Naso reached its apex, his Crimson Fire Heart Ape Sword mercilessly strove for his neck.
Bang!
Naso’s head, full of unwillingness and regret, flew high into the air before landing on the ground, his eyes wide open in death.
His decapitated body underwent a series of violent explosions. The out-of-control Death’s Force collided within him, causing his body to explode into pieces.
A badge, radiating a silver glow, rolled out from his corpse. It was the only spoil of war fallen from the slain Naso.
Upon picking it up, Song Jian found it to be a silver-grade accessory.
“Death God’s Badge (Silver), Equipment Level 28, Equipment Effect: Agility +4, Skill Damage Increase 40%, Special Effect: After wearing it, it can disguise as a senior member of Death’s Scythe. Note: There is a certain chance of being uncovered by the real Death’s Scythe member who will then relentlessly hunt the wearer down. Equipment Requirement: Level 25. Can it be brought out of the game: No.”
The most potent attribute of this silver-grade equipment is probably the increase in skill damage by 40% – almost equivalent to enhancing the skill’s power by three to four levels.
Regarding disguising as a senior member of Death’s Scythe, this effect has no practical meaning for Song Jian currently. Though it might be useful later on, Song Jian had no plans to wear this badge now.
The two accessories that Song Jian is currently wearing include one blue-grade Heart of Ice, which can unleash a Frost Shield, a beneficial effect that he frequently uses. The other accessory is the silver-grade Ant Soul Orb. Although its actual effect, intimidating the Magical Ant Clan, is no longer needed by Song Jian, its base attributes of increasing agility by 5 points and damage by 15% are excellent, making Song Jian reluctant to replace it.
The Death God’s Badge had potent base attributes, but the special effect was indeed a double-edged sword with significant side effects. After some hesitation, Song Jian added it to his bag.
“Two more times…” Song Jian looked at Naso’s mangled corpse, musing to himself.
The first assassin dispatched was of only the Elite Level 25. Next time, it might be a Level 30 assassin. The strength of each sent assassin is much greater than the last. Song Jian wondered if he could hold on until the end.
“Shadowfang Mountain Range…” Song Jian consulted his rudimentary map. He felt that he had lost his way, being unable to locate the abandoned military camp marked on his map. Once he found this camp, he would only need to continue traveling south for 300 kilometers to see the Dark Castle of the Shadowfang Mountain Range.
“I hope I can resolve the pursuit from Death’s Scythe before entering the Shadowfang Mountain Range…” Song Jian sighed, speaking to himself.
Had he known it would be this troublesome, he might have decided to spare Tang Ming’s life. Since he had already destroyed the equipment he used to create the skeleton soldiers, he certainly wouldn’t have been able to create more in a short amount of time. After completing the mission in the Dark Castle, Song Jian could conveniently kill him on the way back.
However, it’s too late for regrets now since he has already killed him. There’s no use in having regrets.
“Death’s Scythe, I will root your organization out sooner or later,” Song Jian stated fiercely.
Though it might be too early to talk about taking down Death’s Scythe given Song Jian’s current strength, it is not necessarily impossible in the future.
Upon checking his map, Song Jian realized that the abandoned military camp should be nearby. He wondered why he had not found it yet and figured that he must have gone off course.
Just then, he heard the sound of cartwheels crushing the ground from a distance. Turning his head, he noticed a giant beast pulling a peculiar four-wheeled cart.
This beast looked terrifyingly similar to an alligator but had two curved horns on its head. Its limbs were muscular and full of strength.
The name above this beast’s head appeared green, followed by a subtitle that read, “Player Jiang Shuang’s Pet.”
“Dedicated Cart One. It looked like this beast’s name had been changed by a player named Jiang Shuang,” thought Song Jian.
The cart pulled by the beast was peculiar. It seemed to be a pickup modified with sections of iron welded all over it, making it look patchy.
Seated in front of the cart was a goblin, controlling the beast. Upon spotting Song Jian, the goblin halted the cart and lifted his worn-out felt hat, greeting, “Hello there, honored god-blessed.”
“Hello there. I wonder where you’re headed?” Song Jian glanced into the cart, which was mysteriously empty of people but piled high with goods.
Although it clearly wasn’t a cargo cart, it was filled with goods. Moreover, the cart-pulling beast was obviously a player’s pet, yet Song Jian couldn’t spot any players nearby.
“God-blessed, you can call me Torolf. My master is also a god-blessed. I’m currently hauling goods for his shop!” the goblin cheerfully explained. Judging by his wrinkled face, this goblin was quite old.
“Shop?” The word caught Song Jian’s attention. He quickly asked, “Could you tell me where your master’s shop is located?”
“Sure! It’s just ahead in the military camp town, about ten kilometers from here,” replied Torolf, pointing forward.
“Military camp town? Could this town be the abandoned military camp marked on my map?” Song Jian wondered to himself.
“Torolf, my name is Song Jian, and I’m an adventurer. Could you give me a lift to the military camp town? I need to purchase some supplies,” Song Jian requested.
“Of course, there’s no issue with that. If my master knows I’ve assisted a god-blessed, he would surely praise me,” Torolf humbly replied, moving aside. “However, I must apologize. The goods have filled up the cart, so you can only sit beside me…”
“Many thanks, Torolf!” Song Jian expressed his gratitude and sat next to the plump goblin.
“Not at all. I might have even brought a new customer back for my master,” humbly replied Torolf. “You mentioned earlier that you needed supplies?”
“Haha, Torolf, you’re a natural businessman,” Song Jian laughed.
“Of course, I am a goblin after all, sir!” Torolf laughed heartily, guiding the cart forward slowly.
