Chapter 607: Chapter 607: Task Completed
The moment the Eagle Brothers entered the levitating base, Song Jian had already arrived at the entrance of the secret chamber where the Corrupted Puppet Beast, Hismenti, was imprisoned.
Even with all of the components, assembling a “Rudimentary Magic Cannon” would take a long time.
Upon sensing Song Jian’s arrival at the door once again, the dark secret chamber echoed with the crazed roars of Hismenti. It seemed to foresee its own doom and began to violently struggle.
“You will not succeed, you will not succeed, I will kill you, kill you!” Hismenti’s voice pierced Song Jian’s ears, causing a sharp, painful sensation, as if a giant hammer was violently pounding away in his mind;
This made the already slow construction process even slower.
“Damn it, what’s the use of your stalling? Do you think anyone will come to your rescue? I have wiped out all the monsters nearby. There won’t be anyone to save you. Why can’t you just die quietly?” Song Jian thought to himself.
Seeing the progress bar crawling forward at a slow pace, Song Jian became slightly restless. This was because his Engineering level was too low. It barely met the requirements to build a Magic Cannon, resulting in an extremely slow manufacturing process with a decent chance of failure.
Song Jian had enough materials to build three Magic Cannons as a backup plan in case of failure, but it seemed it wouldn’t be necessary to use the materials designated for the other two.
After dozens of minutes, the progress bar was two-thirds complete. Just then, Song Jian felt a tremor beneath his feet, and the entire levitating base seemed to sway slightly. His heart pounded suddenly with apprehension.
“What happened? Why is there vibration?” Panic filled Song Jian’s eyes. The whole floating base was as big as a town. The only cause for such a shake could be a seismic event;
“Could it be that there is a problem with the levitating system of the base, and the whole base is about to collapse?” Song Jian wondered.
At this moment, he was not aware of the presence of other players in the instance. He could only speculate that there was an issue with the levitating system.
Fortunately, the shaking wasn’t severe and didn’t affect the construction of the Magic Cannon;
After a few more minutes, the construction progress bar finally reached the end, and a Magic Cannon consisting of a “base + barrel” appeared before Song Jian.
The Magic Cannon was indeed very rudimentary, taller than half a person’s height with four steel claws reaching out from the base to grip the ground firmly. A barrel about thirty centimeters in diameter extended outwards, aiming at the entrance of the secret chamber;
At the back of the barrel, an oval ammunition depot started charging. A shot every ten seconds was extremely slow in comparison to other weapons, but it wasn’t too slow for a defensive cannon;
Just as the depot’s charging reached its peak, a dazzling white light suddenly flashed from the pitch-black barrel;
An intense white light, solidified yet scorching, burst out from the barrel. The massive recoil caused the Magic Cannon to let out a sonorous roar, like the howling of a wild beast. A violent vigor shot out from the Magic Cannon, taking Song Jian by surprise and causing him to step back three to four steps before steadying himself.
Then, a painful wail from Hismenti echoed from the chamber. In the pitch-black chamber, a ball of white light exploded. It seemed to have encountered a severe invisible resistance, spraying out a blazing light and vigorously shooting inwards;
Boom~
A loud rumbling erupted, and the ball of light shattered, scattering in all directions. However, right at the center of the explosion, a damage number exceeding five hundred floated above Hismenti’s head;
“Five hundred points of damage, it will take more than twenty cannons to kill it!” Song Jian frowned. The power of the Magic Cannon was massive. If a normal player was shot, it could potentially deal over eight hundred points of damage which would instantly push them into critical condition.
But when the shot hit Hismenti, it only dealt a little over five hundred points of damage, proving that the defense of this BOSS was not as weak as Song Jian had assumed;
Ten seconds later, another dazzling ball of white light shot into the chamber. After a rumbling noise, Hismenti let out a bestial shriek, struggling more violently. The chain that bound it clanged but no matter how it struggled, it couldn’t break free from the lock chain made of meteoric metal.
Song Jian waited patiently. With each blast, the durability of the Magic Cannon began to decrease slowly. With continued use, every shot decreased the Cannon’s durability by one or two points. After killing Hismenti, this Magic Cannon would likely be on the verge of destruction.
However, its mission was to kill Hismenti. As long as it could kill the BOSS, its mission would be accomplished. Even if it didn’t break down, Song Jian would destroy it.
Time slowly ticked by, and Hismenti’s roar grew weaker until it could no longer struggle and roar, like a giant mountain of flesh, it lay on the ground motionless. If not for the faint movement of its body, anyone would have mistaken it for a corpse.
Hismenti’s lumpy tumors were mostly shattered, its body flowing with stinky pus and blood. Large patches of charred marks littered its body, emitting white smoke. The mixture of the smell of charred flesh and stinky pus and blood filled the chamber with a nauseating stench;
Job done!
Song Jian clapped his hands, a smile appearing on his face. The fact that he was able to kill a first-grade BOSS without any danger brought him immense satisfaction.
However, it was clear that using this kind of sneaky method to kill Hismenti might complete the quest, but the quality of Hismenti’s drop would greatly decrease. If he could get a blue-quality equipment, it would mean that Song Jian was incredibly lucky.
Boom!
With the final strike, Hismenti’s massive body was blown into pieces. It was as if a blood rain descended in the whole chamber, and the stench of blood suffused the room;
Song Jian glanced at his task bar. The quest triggered by a weird letter was completed. As Song Jian clicked to receive his quest reward, a beam of light shot out from his body, boosting his level to 29;
Song Jian gave a slight smile and added the newly gained skill point to Earth Teeth Assault;
This was the first active attack skill he gained after entering the game. It had been at level 2 with maxed experience for a while but lacked the skill points to upgrade it;
When Earth Teeth Assault upgraded to level three, it directly reached max level, unable to be further upgraded. Its attributes had undergone a dramatic change. Song Jian frowned, stared at the description of Earth Teeth Assault’s attributes, and numerous thoughts raced through his mind.
