Chapter 25: Chen Linhai’s Suspicion! The Six Treasury Immortal Bandits!
The three of them got into a car. As soon as they settled in, Chen Linhai couldn’t contain his curiosity and asked, “Master, may I inquire about your lineage?”
“The Celestial Masters’ Mansion of Longhu Mountain,” Zhang Beixuan replied nonchalantly.
“The Celestial Masters’ Mansion?”
Chen Linhai’s eyes instantly sparkled with interest, and asked, “The one from Orthodox Daoism?”
“Yes,” Zhang Beixuan confirmed.
“In that case, may I ask what color robe is traditionally worn within the temple?” Chen Linhai inquired.
Zhang Beixuan was shocked by this question, surprised that Chen Linhai knew the distinctions in Daoist attire. Sensing Zhang Beixuan’s curiosity, Chen Linhai chuckled and explained.
“To be honest, I’ve had some previous interest in Daoist culture, which is why I’m asking.”
Zhang Beixuan nodded and casually replied, “I wear a purple robe.”
“A purple robe... Wait, what!?” Chen Linhai, who had been smiling, suddenly widened his eyes in disbelief. “You wear a purple robe? Are you the Celestial Master of Longhu Mountain?”
“That’s correct,” Zhang Beixuan admitted.
Upon hearing this confirmation, Chen Linhai was utterly astonished.
Chen Linhai, on the other hand, frowned. Although the Celestial Masters’ Mansion had been relatively inactive in the secular world for a long time, its prestigious reputation in Daoism was widely known. Chen Linhai had some understanding of the hierarchical divisions within Daoism: white robes for initiates, green for ordinary disciples, blue for those who had achieved some mastery, and red and yellow for those qualified to pass on teachings and receive disciples.
On the other hand, the coveted purple robe was reserved for those who could conduct ceremonies and suppress all forms of evil – a position held by only one individual throughout history, revered as the Celestial Master. They were invariably elderly individuals, typically over fifty years old.
A Daoist who appeared to be no more than twenty claimed to be the contemporary Celestial Master of Longhu Mountain. This was a severe affront to the traditions of Daoism. If it weren’t for the current situation that required Zhang Beixuan’s assistance, Chen Linhai might have already sought help elsewhere.
Ding ding ding...
Just then, Chen Linhai’s phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID and was shocked.
“Hello.”
After a short conversation that lasted only a few seconds, he hung up the phone, and a hint of excitement appeared on his face.
“Let’s go to the entrance. A VIP has arrived!”
“Ding! Detected that the host was in a paranormal event. Triggering system task: Resolve the Haunting at Jiangbei University!”
“Task completion: Reward [Sixty years of cultivation] [Six Treasury Immortal Bandits].”
“Task failure: No punishment!”
The system’s notification sounded in Zhang Beixuan’s mind.
“Another task triggered?”
Zhang Beixuan’s steps hesitated for a moment, revealing a hint of excitement. He had just come down from the mountain and had already encountered two consecutive tasks. And they paid!
“This place at the foot of the mountain is amazing!” Zhang Beixuan thought with satisfaction.
He gazed at the dark corridor, and the air was filled with the unique scent of a girls’ dormitory. He couldn’t quite put it into words. After thoroughly searching the first floor, he found nothing unusual, so he didn’t linger and proceeded to the second floor. Just as he stepped onto the second floor, he heard running water. It was like someone taking a shower.
Zhang Beixuan’s expression turned strange. It was late at night, and he was in a girls’ dormitory. It wouldn’t be appropriate if he were to peek at someone showering.
“Peeping is definitely not okay, but going to check openly should be fine,” Zhang Beixuan reasoned, convinced that his logic was sound.
With determined strides, he headed towards the direction of the bathroom.
