CH 9

I smile.

Why? Because I’m happy.

Because Ryu, who I love so much, has started to do his best to become stronger.

I’ve known him since he was little.

When we first met, I heard that he didn’t have anyone to play with because his friends had to prepare to serve the country.

That’s why I played with him in their place.

I pretended to be a normal human girl.

It was fun for me too.

How long ago was it that I had last played like this?

We continued playing until the sun started sinking.

One day, Ryu started saying that he wanted power too.

Apparently the hero who was his friend got badly injured, barely escaping death with the help of the knights and the sorcerer friend.

Because of that incident, Ryu started to want power himself as well.

To not just help out his parents in the town, but to be strong to help his friends.

That’s what Ryu would say, holding back his tears.

But Ryu’s occupation is [Tamer], and even if he was able to tame a strong animal, it would be no match against a monster.

So I proposed an idea.

That I would become his [Familiar].

Ryu was surprised that I wasn’t actually human, but he accepted it quickly and didn’t treat me any different than before.

I then explained what he could gain and what the risks were of contracting with me.

I made sure he understood the risks well.

After all, if it went badly, his body and soul wouldn’t hold up.

That’s why honestly, I wanted him to say he wouldn’t. That he would give up the opportunity so he can stay alive.

I was really worried when he said he would. But that’s why I was shocked when he succeeded in contracting with me.

There had been many people who saw my vast magic and tried to contract with me, but most of them failed and died. Even the ones that succeeded went mad, like something broke inside of them.

Naturally, I wanted to know why his soul managed to stay intact.

His soul was large and glowing bright, like the sun, shining upon all.

I had never seen anything like it before in all of my long life.

And with this, I was sure.

That Ryu would become stronger than the hero.

Ryu, I’m sure you’ll become even a more amazing existence than me.

So work hard, and don’t forget that even the strongest fenrir got stronger slowly but surely.

When you need help, I’ll help you.
