Chapter 18: CHAPTER 18
"Don't worry. I'm right here. I won't let you trip." he said those warm and reassuring words while bending a little closer to Eva.
She could not help but tighten her grip a little more on his strong and muscular arm. Somehow, the solid and unyielding muscles she was holding onto made her feel more secure than she had ever felt before. It was strange how this sense of security, though gentle, was even stronger than what she had felt when she was still with her ex-fiancé. But... she had to admit that the warmth of their linking arms was a bit distracting. She had felt this when she grabbed onto his hand this morning as well. The warmth of his smooth and bare skin had made her feel something strange fluttering somewhere in the vicinity of her lower abdomen despite all the urgency that she had quickly let go before they could even reach the kitchen. Now it was happening once again. And it did not help the slightest even if there was the smooth fabric of his shirt between them. It did nothing to reduce or dull that fluttery sensation she was feeling.
It was also unsettling how he was treating her so gently like this. She could feel his support even as they strolled along slowly, though nothing had happened to her yet.
As they got nearer to the elevator, Eva took a deep breath. Somehow, she was not worried at all that she would get busted and be recognised even through her elaborate dress-up to not be identified. Her confidence was also oozing quite a bit, and she wondered if it was because of this imposing man who was walking next to her. No matter how he acts around her, Eva always knew that he exudes an uncommon aura. He was that type of a person who effortlessly makes the crowd open up for him without a single word.
The sounds of her heels clicked as it echoed along the corridor as they walked, and at last they saw the elevator doors. Some reporters were still milling about there. They all turned their attention towards them. But none of them lifted their cameras and just looked as though in a daze, at the two people dressed like superstars and were wearing matching sunglasses.
The way they walked in unison, hand in hand, as if walking down a runway for couples made everyone seemed to fall into a trance.
And just as Eva expected, the reporters automatically moved aside as they drew nearer. Still, none of them lifted their cameras.
Everyone was quiet and the only thing that could be heard was the crisp sounds of her heels clicking against the floor as she took step after step. Until the elevator doors opened.
Gage's hand moved to the small of Eva's back, then curled around and settled naturally on her waist.
They both stepped inside.
And when the elevator doors finally closed, the reporters snapped out of their trance. "Who were those two people? I don't remember any celebrities living in this building." One of them said.
"I think the man looks familiar."
"You're not actually scheming up a plan on how to burn the whole building down, are you?" Gage asked, humour gleaming in his eyes as he glanced at her.
"Yes, I want to burn them all to hell." She uttered absentmindedly.
Gage smiled at her response.
"You sound like a villain now."
"It's their fault. They had painted me as one. So I should not disappoint my dear ex-family members and make sure I turned out as how they viewed me as that ultimate villian."
"How scary." Gage commented lightly as the corners of his lips curled up.
Eva finally looked at him and saw the corner of his lips still lifted as his gaze was focused on the road.
Her inner demoness came out and muttered. Why does he look like he is excited about something? Look at that gorgeous smile. Ooh... it's practically dripping honey! Yummm...
Eva shook her head as is to clear her mind. 'I need to stop overthinking. He's just probably excited to watch some drama in action.' He told herself.
But again, her inner demoness scoffed. 'You're not serious, are you? You really think this hot devil is smiling like that because he's a fan of drama?'
'Who knows? I just don't want to think about him right now. He's impossible to figure out anyway.' Eva groaned then she clenched her fists as she looked at the company building again through the side mirror.
Just you wait. Just you wait... all of you. You had better prepare yourselves for my return. I anticipate seeing your faces then!
