The past felt so distant that Xia Xin almost forgot it until the dream brought it rushing back to her. The events were strange to ponder upon, ‘Why was I at the hospital in the first place?’

“I remember,” Jing MO said, nodding his head. “You had a fever because you didn’t cover yourself while sleeping. I was so worried that I took you to the hospital. Why are you bringing this up now?”

Xia Xin’s expression grew solemn, as though she was on the brink of uncovering a hidden secret. She asked, “Not long after that happened, you disappeared without a word. Didn’t you?”

Jing MO hesitated, his hand pausing mid-air as he was about to pick up a dish.

He recovered quickly, masking his expression with a feigned smile. He said, “Did I? It’s been so long that I don’t remember. Maybe I did.”

Yet Xia Xin sensed that something was off about Jing Mo’s reaction. She thought, ‘He seemed to remember, or why else would he insist twice that he didn’t?’

Xia Xin’s curiosity piqued, she wanted to dig deeper, to understand what exactly had transpired back then that led her to lose her memory and why Jing MO was so evasive about it. But before she could press further, there was a knock at the door.

“I’ll get it,” Jing MO said, almost too relieved as if making his great escape.

Sun Hu burst into the house, kicking off his shoes carelessly in the entryway, not even bothering to put on slippers before sitting down at the dining table. He said, “Pour me a glass of water. I’m parched!”

Jing MO frowned at the scent of alcohol emanating from Sun Hu and turned to fetch the water. Jing MO despised drinking and smoking; neither he would let those things within a five-meter radius of him. Even Sun Hu was usually careful; today was an unusual lapse.

Distracted by Sun Hu’s sudden arrival, Xia Xin forgot what she wanted to ask Jing Mo. Her curiosity shifted to Sun Hu instead. She asked, “Where have you been so early in the morning to be this exhausted?”

Grabbing the water Jing MO handed him, Sun Hu downed it in one gulp and said, “Not early morning. All night. I’ve been negotiating a project for you, Xia Xin. What else?”

Xia Xin was astonished. He said, “We just wrapped up the previous show yesterday. Are things really moving this fast?”

Sun Hu rolled his eyes and explained, “Ever heard of striking while the iron is hot? Now that you’re trending, you should get involved in numerous variety shows and dramas. That way, you stay in the public eye all year round. In this internet age, out of sight means out of mind.”

Jing MO took a seat next to Xia Xin, intrigued. He asked, “So what project did you snag for her?”

Grinning triumphantly, Sun Hu took a bite of a fried dough stick and said, “It’s a live reality show. The theme is about going back to nature and interacting with animals. The show is tailor-made for Xia Xin! She gets along great with animals, and anytime she’s involved in animal-related content, her fan base grows. As soon as I found out about it, I ran to get drinks with the director.

Took me an entire night to convince him to bring Xia Xin on board.”

Sun Hu gulped down a large mouthful of soy milk and added, “Get ready, you’re joining the team tomorrow.”

“So soon?” Xia Xin exclaimed.

Sun Hu nodded and continued, “The variety show you shot in the zoo has already aired, and the heat from your faux relationship with MO Shu is fading. This live show will put you back in the spotlight quickly. By the time it ends, your web drama should be edited and ready to air in another month.”

Xia Xin had to admire the relentless pace of the entertainment industry; from start to finish, it was just three short months. Her appetite dwindled, but watching Sun Hu devour his meal made her nibble on another half of the fried dough stick. She dipped it into her soy milk and then asked, “So who are the other participants in the show?”

“Coincidentally, you’ll be reuniting with an old acquaintance—Xu Zhi,” Sun Hu revealed.

Xia Xin’s eyes lit up. She thought, ‘Does that mean I’d get to see Zhao Nan? Ever since I started filming and Zhao Nan became Xu Zhi’s assistant, we hadn’t seen each other in over a month..’
