I’ve been walking for about thirty minutes since I left the restaurant after consuming the large omurice, and I couldn’t help but be concerned about the person following behind me.
“Jed, how far are you planning on following me?”
I stopped and look back at Jed, who shuddered. If you’re going to turn away from me like that, why don’t you just stop following me?
“You came here for a reason, right? Why are you still following me around like this?”
“Because I’m worried.”
“I’m in a city. I don’t think there’s anything you need to worry about happening anytime soon…”
I can’t be too careful, though, because the Principality of Agreable seems to be a country that is prone to problems.
It’s hard to say “it’s safe” when I remember what happened in the Portu village and the port town of Meil.
“There are dangerous lurking around the city too, aren’t there?”
“That might be true, but that does not mean you have to wo-…”
My words were interrupted by a woman’s scream.
That scream right now…
“That just now was…”
“I don’t know. Let’s take a look.”
I was going to push him away, but suddenly I’ve invited Jed to join me.
He also showed a surprised expression, but soon nodded with a mysterious look on his face.
For the time being, I decided to leave Jed’s matter behind and started running.
As I passed through a narrow alleyway, I saw a woman slumped over. She was staring at the brick wall with a frightened expression on her face, causing me to wonder what was going on.
“Are you okay?”
I asked as I rushed over to the woman, but she must have been startled by my voice because her body shook and for some reason she fell to the ground.
When I picked her up and checked on her, she was pale and unconscious.
“Elle, did you do something to her?”
Jed asked, peering at the woman from behind, but I have no idea.
“What, what is that…”
Jed, who had followed my gaze, showed a dubious expression as soon as he saw the wall.
(Let’s play.)
Such words were drawn on the wall with corpses of dead insects.
“Are you alright? Your face is pale.”
“I, it’s nothing…”
“Are you perhaps afraid of bugs?”
You’re usually not very perceptive, but you’re always so perceptive in situations like this.
When I glared at him, “So you are afraid.” he replied with a wry smile.
“A, anyhow, let’s carry this woman away first.”
I nodded tinily at his apologetic proposal.
Jed took the woman in his arms and I took her belongings. The first place we are going to was the patrol guard station.
Even if that was supposed to be a prank, it was a nasty one. They need to catch the culprit.
When we arrived at the police station, we were greeted by Mr. Beaumont, a guard we had met when we were trying to find Cosette’s mother.
When I explained the situation to him, he looked at us in surprise.
“Eh? You guys came across it as well?”
“As well?”
“Yeah, it’s a poor prank that has been happening a lot recently. So they did it again…”
It’s been happening a lot?
“If this has been happening so much, then you must have an idea of whom the culprit is, right?”
“Hmm, we have no clue whatsoever. We are quite troubled by this malicious prank.”
My shoulders dropped by Mr. Beaumont’s lack of tension.
The fact that it has been happening over and over again means that it’s beyond a mere prank.
You should catch the culprit as soon as possible…
“The culprit will lose interest sooner or later.”
I heard the sound of a blood vessel in my brain snapping.
I don’t think we can leave it to the guards who have no intention of catching the criminal.
I’ll definitely catch you, so you better be prepared.
I let my anger soar at the yet unseen criminal.
