I’ve Been Exiled, But I’m Alive and Well - Chapter 80
The next day, we were about to go to the patrol guard station when I heard a commotion coming from the alleyway.
“What is that about?”
“Is there a problem?”
Giselle and I looked at each other and tilted our heads.
Maybe there was a problem because someone had overheard us last night. In a hurry, we had to run into the alleyway before we could get to the guards.
“Oh~ it’s you guys.”
On our way to the gathering place of the people, we were approached by one of the men who had tried to cause an incident in the alleyway two nights ago.
I tilted my head at the sight of him approaching us with a cheerful smile on his face. If there had been a problem in the alleyway, he would not have approached us like this. He would have been hostile and accusing.
If that’s not it, then what the hell is this commotion in the alleyway about?
“Good morning. Umm, there seems to be a lot of noise over there, what is going on?”
As soon as I asked, the man tilted his head. I had asked him a question, and he had given me this subtle response.
I looked at Giselle to see if she had heard something strange, and she looked as confused as I was.
“They have decided to install the magic tools. We're all looking around to decide where to put it, so it's getting noisy.”
The magic tools are being installed?
They are making a fuss to decide where to place them?
I couldn’t understand. When I tilted my head, the man smiled broadly and asked, "You guys convinced the guards, didn't you?” But I had no idea. I thought that Jed, who had just returned to the inn earlier, might have persuaded them, but if so, he would have said something.
“I didn't think you'd be able to convince them before we finished collecting signatures.”
“No, I mean…”
“I can't thank you enough for all you've done, and I'll thank you again next time.”
While Giselle and I were confused, the man left towards the crowd.
We didn't have time to dismiss this misunderstanding.
Even the well-informed Giselle was confused. I guess she didn't know about this information.
“Let’s go to the patrol guards station. We might get to know something there.”
“Let’s do that then…”
I headed for the patrol guards station with questions on my mind.
