I’ve Been Exiled, But I’m Alive and Well - Chapter 104
Giselle’s Point of View
As soon as we returned to her room at the inn, I propped up Lady Elle, who collapsed as if she had lost her spirit, and took her to bed.
After cleaning her body, I changed her clothes and placed a cool towel on her forehead.
It's very calming to be able to take care of someone and not have them complain. I still want to go back to being her personal maid, though.
I know it's useless to say, so I will keep my mouth shut.
“It’s because you are pushing yourself too much…”
“Sorry.”
She used a spell that consumed a lot of magical power, even though she was in bad shape. I'm sure it put a lot of strain on her body.
I'm not sure if we will be able to leave Arburn for a while, considering Lady Elle's condition.
The Duke is said to leave tomorrow, and Gislain and the rest of the guards would probably return with him. That leaves us with the search party, but we can take care of them at any time.
“Come to think of it…”
“What is it?”
I was going to ask the search party, but in my anger I forgot. Smiling bitterly, Lady Elle replied, "Don't worry about it, I have a hunch.”
To already have a hunch, as expected of Lady Elle.
“Who is it? I will confirm it.”
“It’s fine. I will confirm it myself when I feel better.”
I wonder if the person she has in mind is stronger than me. If so, it's no wonder she doesn’t want to tell me.
I know it's a kindness, not wanting me to get hurt. I just wish she would rely on me more.
"Don't look so sad. I didn't mean to imply that you are unreliable, Giselle.”
"Please don’t read my thoughts.”
"You are just easy to understand."
Lady Elle smiled weakly. When I turned my face away, not wanting to be read any further, she said, "You really are easy to understand.”
She pulled on my hand to sit me on the bed and stroked my hair.
“I simply want to confirm if my hunch was correct. Let me see for myself.”
“Is the opponent stronger than me?”
“It’s hard to say.”
“Is that so…”
Since she said something so vague, then the opponent is most likely stronger than me.
Lady Elle says I’m easy to understand, but so is she.
“Please go to sleep.”
“Okay…”
I muttered a small "good night" to Lady Elle, who shut her eyes and turned off the light in the room.
I forgot to tell her that the Duke will be leaving Arburn tomorrow.
That shall be the first thing I tell her when she wakes up.
Just as I was about to leave the room to take a nap, I felt the presence of someone at the door.
“Who is it?”
“Is that you, Giselle, It’s Ewe.”
I wondered why she had come at this hour.
No, more importantly, Lady Elle is not wearing any disguise magic right now. I opened the door to the room and stood in front of Ewe, so that she couldn’t see inside.
“How is Elle?”
“Thank you for your concern. She just fell asleep a little while ago.”
“That so? I have prepared some medicine for her, you can give it to her when she wakes up.”
“You even prepared medicine for her… thank you very much.”
I thanked Ewe who offered me some over-the-counter cold medicine.
Oh, that's right. I remembered something I forgot to mention earlier.
“Thank you very much for earlier.”
“Earlier?”
“For helping me turn away the man who came looking for Miss Elle.”
A normal innkeeper would have blamed the guests and kicked them out. But Ewe protected us.
I wonder why she was being so kind to us.
“If you want to thank me, stay longer in our inn.”
“Alright.”
I don't know if that's a proper way of conveying our gratitude, but we are going to use this inn until Lady Elle is feeling better.
"I'm going to bed now, so if you need anything, don’t be afraid to call me.”
"Thank you."
As she was about to return to her room, Ewe stopped in her tracks and muttered, "Oh, right....” I tilted my head, wondering if something had happened.
"I have made arrangements so that the fight on the roof won’t cause a fuss."
Ewe smiled bewitchingly, her dark eyes turning red.
