Excerpt from Breaking the Chain of Sadness’s official site (The scam trial version).
[[So you do get it! As expected of my best friend! We really are two of a kind, man~~]]
Akechi Hideyori
A childhood friend and best friend to Jumonji Takeru, the protagonist.
The man usually seems frivolous and shady but when push comes to shove you can count on his sense of justice.
He looked like a skirt chaser at first glance and is often seen flirting with the girls but he is actually dating Sasaki Emi, a girl who he cherishes a lot.

[[I and Hideyori-kun are tied together by a red string of fate you know]]
Sasaki Emi
Childhood friend to Akechi Hideyori who she is also dating.
She has a child-like face and is doted on by her classmates as a younger sister type character.
She is aware of Hideyori’s skirt chaser tendency but she does forgive him for that because she knows that when it comes to it, she can always rely on him.
Simply put, she has the legal wife’s superiority.
Excerpt from Breaking the Chain of Sadness’s Visual Fan Book.
[[See Takeru, I have never liked you. That’s why I have been hoping to see how miserable you can become since I was a brat.]]
Akechi Hideyori
Holding contempt for the Gift that Takeru unconsciously possesses, he has been targeting him since he was a child.
The wicked fellow derived joy from destroying each and every of Takeru’s relationships.
He usually wears a frivolous smile as his mask but inside he’s actually an evil scumbag with a trash personality.
His Gift [Dominating Decree] is truly too dangerous for a person such as him to possess.
The man is also physically strong and since he’s smart he would always find his way around those he finds troublesome. However, he’s actually quite reliable as an ally.
He is very unpopular among the players but without him, the game wouldn’t have been what it was.
—
[[Eh, wh…. Why…….?]]
Sasaki Emi
Since she was given the role of Akechi Hideyori’s girlfriend through his ability, [Dominating Decree], they have never truly communicated with each other.
Her outward appearance as the beloved younger sister of the class is also just a ploy to easily grasp the weaknesses of the heroines.
Since she always has to go along with Hideyori’s unreasonable plans her fate is sealed in every route.
Although her character’s background is quite sympathetic, she was still extremely unpopular among the players as she would always set the heroines up or simply act as their obstacle.
It was planned that she would join the rank of heroine in the sequel but with so much hate from the players, that plan was probably scrapped(lol)
From the development team’s perspective, she’s someone we find extremely difficult to utilize.
Even among the female staff members, it seems some do find Emi even more unlikable than Hideyori himself.
Character Introduction [For this Novel] (TLN: the Author’s POV)
Akechi Hideyori
Rather than writing about a reincarnated protagonist’s personality, I enjoy telling the story of the characters in the original game more.
The name Akechi Hideyori was derived from my two favorite military commanders, Akechi Mitsuhide, and Toyotomi Hideyori.
I started this work aiming to capture the essence of a male counterpart to the villainess trope.
As said on the author’s Twitter, the role model of this scumbag best friend character is Itou Daisuke from the visual novel [Rebellions.]
Itou Daisuke
I hope I can reach the game’s timeline soon.

Sasaki Emi
Being conscious of her role as a side character, I gave her a generic name.
Although she’s treated extremely terribly in [Breaking the Chain of Sadness], as long as she’s treated right in the novel I think that would be safe enough.
I don’t know if she will become this novel’s main heroine or not but she will probably have a lot of roles to play in the future……
There’s a mountain of heroines I want to write about so I will be emphasizing speed though.
She’s the type of character that earned a lot of hate in the game setting………
………writing about both how miserable she becomes and her happy story as a set would really give some amazing contrast……
A customcast image of her was posted on the author’s Twitter.
You can probably see it by skimming the author’s tweets or searching her up on Twitter.

Uncle (Oji)
Somehow, he reminds me of Teppei from Higurashi, I guess…….
Teppei
Even in this novel, I prefer the warped family dynamic that only exists through Hideyori’s Gift more than a straight-up happy family since it makes this work more disturbing.
He won’t get that many scenes in this novel but his fate is still much much more preferable than in the game.
Aunt (Obasan)
She’s completely incompetent as an aunt but she does care for Hideyori.
The uncle was fated to die in the game but the aunt was supposed to survive. However, due to Hideyori and Emi going out of control, she met her unfortunate end……..
In the game, she had been looking at how Hideyori treated Emi and suspected that Hideyori might possess some kind of Gift but she was too scared to say anything and did not interfere in their business.
In the end, the one time when she actually decided to interfere resulted in her miserable end.
I hope I can improve their relationship a little in this novel.
TLN: To be honest, I’m not really good at translating in the author’s POV
