The Longing for Gift
“The only cheater here is you right…….”
I sipped on Coffee A again before retorting her.
“Master just brewed 2 cups by mistake this time.”
“Eh?”
Master’s face went like [I did?].
In short, she wanted to say that I got that right by chance huh.
“You passed the warm-up round. The next one is the real deal. I will definitely brew one next time.”
“If that’s the case then I think it would make the warm-up round more difficult though……..”
“I will show you what it’s like when I get serious, Kid!”
I can see that she’s quite stubborn.
Master on the other hand has an apologetic expression on his face.
“Alright. I’m looking forward to your coffee, Sakuya.”
“Umu. That’s an admirable attitude. I like it when you are honest, Hideyori.”
Just like that, I was made to wait outside for a few minutes again.
My stomach hurts a little since I just drink coffee with an empty stomach though……
Soon after, I was called back inside.
And once again, there were 2 cups of coffee prepared for me.
“By the way Sakuya, which one of these do you prefer?”
“Just start from A.”
I follow Sakuya’s blunt instruction.
“Yeah, delicious. It’s Master’s taste.”
“!?”
“That means this one is brewed by Sakuya right.”
Saying so, I immediately sip on Coffee B.
“…….Hmm.”
“Oi, where’s the feedback.”
It seems that she wants to know what I think of the coffee she brewed herself.
How should I answer her though……..
“Sugar-coated or honest?”
“Sugar-coat it.”
“Woah, it’s truly Sakuya-chan’s taste!”
“Disgusting, do it normally!”
When I gave my impression in a clearly dishonest manner, Sakuya retorted so and lightly hit my back.
“It’s bad……..”
“And without the sugar-coat……?”
“……….Blargh!? How is it this bad!? How the heck did you make coffee taste like plain black water!?”
“Hideyori, you bastard!?”
“It’s just my honest impression.”
“You fool, do you think you can get away with it just by saying that it’s your honest impression!?”
“Buhahahaha.”
Master burst out laughing.
“It’s Sakuya’s complete defeat huh.”
Said Master as he laughed so hard that he started to tear up.
“I will never forget this humiliation. I don’t care if it takes 10 years or 20 years, I will definitely make Hideyori say that the coffee I brew is delicious. Train me, Master!”
“Yes, yes. Let’s do our best okay.”
It’s highly possible that in 10 years I might not be alive in this world anymore because of the game’s story but I do look forward to seeing Sakuya’s growth.
“Kuh, if only I have a Gift…….”
“Gift?”
I stiffened for a moment when the word Gift came from Sakuya’s mouth.
It was only for an instant but I thought that she was talking about me.
“You see, my daughter’s always want to have one. I’ve seen a lot of Gift-related crimes lately so I don’t really want it to manifest in her though………”
“You!? Even though you are my father, you are going to dismiss my wish so easily like that!?”
“It’s because I am your father that I don’t want you to have one, Sakuya. They treat Gift Holders who committed a crime as felons, you know. I’m scared for you.”
Some people long to have a Gift while others do not even want to get involved with it.
That’s how much the existence of Gift commands both awe and fear in this world.
Personally, I think that Gift is too dangerous. Both when this was still a game and now.
“What kind of Gift does Sakuya wants?”
“Right. I want something that’s coffee-related.”
“Coffee-related Gift?”
“Like a Gift that [Turns my saliva into coffee]?”
“Eww….., who would want to drink that……..never in my life would I ever think that it would be nice to have saliva coffee you know.”
Like that, I started quarreling with Sakuya while Master watched over us and laughed to himself.
I can’t tell them that I actually have a Gift here but I wish they remain a happy family like this.
Both Master and Sakuya are people that did not appear in [Breaking the Chain of Sadness] series so I’m sure that they can live a peaceful life undisturbed by the events of the game.
Thinking so, I gulped down the coffee.
Will Sakuya inherit this taste when she grows up I wonder?
That thought really made me look forward to the future.
.
.
I hope that the two of them can run this coffee shop in peace forever.
