10-48. A Tale from the Past 10 : Purpose

What is his objective?

That was the most pressing question on Urushima’s mind.

They hadn’t considered methods of buying time afterward.

As they thought about expanding the conversation from here, they waited for the next words from Roku’s mouth.

“‘i  this orb, we seek revenge.  Revenge upon the gods whom created this orb.  We shall  confound this detestable orb crafted by those base gods, whom can only watch with their fingers  ‘i  their mouths.”

The overwhelming display of disparity in power seemed to have made them rather loquacious.

“…And what purpose does that serve?”

“Originally, those beings trapped us  ‘i  a realm of powerless existence.  Maugre our efforts, maugre our reverence.  We were betrayed!. Hundreds of years  hast passed since too.  and we’ve finally join this far.  What doth thou regard the base gods despise the most? yes! ’tis having the orb  they created surprised! we aided  ‘i  creating this orb as well! would we wot how to build it, it follows that we also wot how to dismantle it.”

Listening nearby, Dacia couldn’t quite grasp the meaning of it all.

Multiple gods? World destruction? Powerless realm?

Unfamiliar terms were causing Dacia’s confusion.

However, Urushima understood everything.

By piecing together tales of demons and gods from his previous life, along with an occult perspective, they could somewhat understand.

“Is this about one of the gods within? Did you all do something? Something bad. That’s why you were imprisoned?”

“No!! ’tis.  divers.  The gods feared us.  We whom created skills”

“The gods who created skills?”

“Marry.  Bestowing abilities upon living beings, granting ’em the power to survive  ‘i  this orb.  And ’tis no exaggeration to say that we’re responsible for the present state.  Yet, we weren’t allowed to witness that process! mocked  and incarcerated! for years, we cried out, seeking help!  not a single one of ’em e’en answered our pleas! serving such gods, it sickens me to regard!  they used us as tools, then cast us aside! That’s why!!. We fight.  Confound we.  This corrupted orb created through betrayal!”

The ground trembled.

The attack seemed imminent.

They hadn’t managed to buy much time yet.

Urushima quickly thought of the next topic and asked.

“You’ve gone to quite some lengths for this purpose! Even though you were in a realm where you couldn’t use your power, you managed to reach this point!”

“it’s all thanks to the four of thou.  We interfered with thou through skills, interfered with the orb.  A minor loophole.  ’twere  painstaking,  yet  the efforts paid off.  Well, we couldn’t exactly dispatch thou, so i  didst manipulate thy stats a bit. “

“I’m grateful for that!”

Urushima lightly tapped his tongue.

It was unusual for his gentle demeanor to shift this way.

There had to be a reason for him to become so emotional.

Those gods were beings they inadvertently brought along.

And they are to blame.

Never would he have thought that the skills they had carried with them since their reincarnation would turn into enemies.

He had believed they lived peacefully, but they had actually been aiding in the destruction of the world.

Allowing it to be destroyed was out of the question.

To repay the kindness of the oni who had helped them, and to take care of their own affairs, Urushima clenched his fist once again.

The voice, Riku, used the words “we” and “us.”

Presumably, there should be other voice-like entities as well.

At the very least, three more.

Once all of them manifest, the certainty of approaching world destruction becomes undeniable.

“We still lack information… The others haven’t manifested yet!”

“Ah!  yet  ’tis almost time! once the pool of magical energy is full, they shall manifest presently! since humans are the lid, magical energy won’t ‘scape so easily!!”

“Could you tell us the location of that place, perhaps!?”

“As a token from the netherworld! I shall say to thou!!”

It seemed he were confident enough to win with this strategy.

Roku revealed the names of three countries.

The Kingdom of Litania, the Kingdom of Voldra, and the Demezera Territory.

While Dacia was exasperated by how foolish this ‘god’ seemed, it was valuable information.

Killing humans would release magical energy.

With a plan in mind, they needed to address this matter first.

The voice, Roku, possessed formidable power.

And swarms of monsters poured forth in abundance.

As they pondered how to deal with the situation, the next moment arrived—both of The Voice, Roku’s arms were blown off.

“…Huh?”

“Nice shot, Amaka.”

“You’re the one who trained me, after all!!”

Amaka, who wrapped flames around his legs to create jet boots, and Hiwa, who used water as platforms to traverse the air, arrived as reinforcements.

It seemed they successfully bought some time.

“Th-thank goodness…”

“Don’t let your guard down, Urushima! They’re coming!!”

“Y-yes!”

The Voice, Roku, regenerated his arms at lightning speed and glared at the four.

Yet, there was still a sense of composure in his expression.

“First… shall we wipe out this village?”
