Chapter - 31 || Why Is It That All I Can Think Of Is Elvira?
"Oh... morning?"
That was the first thing Alexander muttered when he woke up in his luxurious bed, realizing that this was reality.
Alexander was the only one in the spacious bed. He didn't get up right away, but stayed in his nightgown and ruminated on the dream he had this morning.
Ever since he heard that Elvira was going to visit the Kingdom of Turku, Alexander dreamed of Elvira every day for some reason.
There was no coherence in the dreams.
It just had Elvira in it.
My favorite dream was when we were still in our early days, when we had just gotten engaged.
When Elvira didn't have those condescending eyes that she had now, and when she spoke to Alexander in a friendly manner.
Elvira was laughing and drinking tea with Alexander.
That was all, and on the day I had such a dream, I was able to wake up peacefully.
It was confusing to wake up and find Natalia next to him, so lately Alexander had been keeping Natalia away from his bedroom.
Natalia gave him an uneasy look, but when he told her that it was a decision to be made before the wedding, she was more than satisfied.
Perhaps because of his efforts, Alexander dreamed of Elvira again today.
But looking back, today's dream was not so favorable.
Elvira was now an adult and not very friendly to Alexander.
'As a King, you should've been more thoughtful of your actions.'
Great.
That's why, just like back then, Alexander would attend a ball and leave Elvira without saying a word, or deliberately tell her a different time for a meeting that they were supposed to attend together.
I had to remind her who was better.
Still, Elvira didn't change her expression, just like back then.
In my dream, Elvira looked down on me all the time, and was only kind to my brother Patrisch. Just like those days.
"Shit!"
Gachan!
Alexander threw the pitcher of water from his bedside table on the floor. A maid flew over in a panic.
"Clean it."
That was all Alexander said and left the bedroom.
Alexander's father and former king, Krzysztof I, had only one child, Alexander, with his former queen, Sophia.
Krzysztof I, who could not bring himself to have a consort, turned his hopes to Alexander. If he was going to have only one child, he wanted to make sure that he had the perfect one.
However, Alexander failed to live up to these expectations.
No matter what he did, in the eyes of King Krzysztof I, Alexander was mediocre. He was too scared to be a man, and was constantly frightened.
The former queen protected Alexander as being 'kind,' but she had to admit that he was not fit to be king.
Then, the former king decided to divide his expectations among the future queen.
He looked for a daughter who had the qualities to complement Alexander's capacity. And Elvira was chosen.
There were some who opposed the idea that the power was too skewed toward the dukes, but the former king pushed through.
When he became engaged to Elvira, the former king was even harsher on Alexander.
Now, it was only natural for him to be a king.
The former queen followed suit.
Alexander had to accept it as a matter of course.
However,
A few years earlier, the miraculous birth of Patrisch had warped Alexander.
Alexander had heard the former king say only to the former minister that Prince Patrisch, despite his young age, was more capable of accommodating his expectations.
In addition, the former king quickly arranged the engagement of Patrisch to Anna, the daughter of Count Sylven, who, despite being a count, had territories at home and abroad.
Alexander took it as a sign of his father's expectations for his brother.
That's why Alexander didn't like Patrisch or Anna. He didn't even want to respond when they spoke to him.
However, Elvira was friendly with both Anna and Patrisch, even though she was Alexander's fiancée.
This annoyed Alexander to no end.
In the meantime, the former king died of an epidemic. The former queen, who was sickly to begin with, became even weaker with grief and retired to a recuperation area with hot springs.
Alexander felt lonely and liberated at the same time. It was then that he met Natalia.
I felt at ease when I was with Natalia. I had never felt this way before. I didn't want to let go.
So I decided to make Natalia my queen.
Then, this time, I could remind the pompous Elvira who was better.
And it came true.
Soon, Natalia will be queen.
And yet,
Why was it that all I could think of now was Elvira?
Alexander finished getting dressed, feeling abhorrent.
[ E/N - Abhorrent; inspiring disgust or loathing, repugnant. ]
The wedding was already tomorrow.
