After dinner, the sky began to slowly get dark. The two children sat outside the door, holding a small bench and sitting down, quietly looking into the distance. Yisheng could not help but ask curiously, “What are they doing?”
Sister Jiang, who was still cleaning up the dishes and the chopsticks smiled and said, “They’re waiting for their dad. He should be coming back soon.”
Yisheng smiled mildly. Song Anchen was probably going to come back soon. She yawned, a little sleepy. She had originally wanted to go to bed and take a short nap but there was a sudden flash of light, causing the originally dark night to suddenly light up before returning to its original darkness. Yisheng could not help but stop in her tracks. This lightning was very worrying.
“Boom,” Suddenly, there was an explosive sound of thunder. It was very loud, like the shock caused by the sudden ignition of firecrackers in a quiet place like the library. Following that, there was the sound of lightning and thunder that occurred two or three times, but it did not rain, causing people to worry about what kind of rain was coming.
The two children sat at the door like statues, motionless. Yisheng admired these children. If it were her from the past, she would definitely have screamed in fear. After Sister Jiang finished cleaning up and came back, she looked at the sky that kept switching between dark and light and could not help worrying, “This looks like it’ll be quite bad, is it going to be a very bad storm?”
Yisheng’s heart could not help but sink. Looking at the sky, it was likely to rain very heavily. But isn’t there a saying called ‘The sound of thunder is loud but the rain is small’. Was this a false alarm?
However, such weather did manage to get rid of all of Yisheng’s sleepiness. She ran back to her house and called Song Anchen, hoping that he would tell her if he was alright. However, no matter how many times she tried to call him, she kept getting the notification that she was not in the service area. The signal was too bad in this area! Yisheng was angry and annoyed, only able to sit and wait. While the sky was still not completely dark and one could still see the road, while the thunder and lightning were just for show, it would be good to come back as soon as possible.
Perhaps the heavens had been bluffing for too long because it suddenly started to rain cats and dogs. The raindrops could no longer be described as ‘drops’. They could only be described as a rope that was hanging from the sky and falling to the ground due to gravity.
The boy finally could not help it and started to cry loudly, running into Sister Jiang’s arms, “Dad hasn’t come home yet.”
Sister Jiang’s expression also started to turn bad and her twelve-year-old older daughter still sat at the doorway, refusing to move. The heavy rain fell on her along with the wind, and her body was wet but she refused to move.
“What should we do? Could something have happened?” Sister Jiang’s voice became more and more unstable as if she were about to cry.
Yisheng’s heart rate increased and she clenched her teeth, forcing herself to comfort them, “It should be alright. Perhaps they are a little late because of the heavy rain.”
“The problem is that the path that they are using often has avalanches. Last month, there was also heavy rain like this and it directly buried the second son of the Liu Family.”
Once Yisheng heard those words, her face instantly turned pale. She could not express her panic in words. In her eyes, she had never thought about what would happen if Song Anchen died. She had never dared to think about it and had never thought deeply about the importance of this man to her. She knew how to avoid him and did not dare to face him. But today, when she heard the news that Song Anchen might die, she panicked and was extremely anxious, almost running off to look for him.
Just when they were panicking, the girl exclaimed in surprise, “Someone’s here.”
In the pouring rain with their surroundings being shrouded by rain. There was a dark shadow coming towards the house in the vast expanse of white. Sister Jiang hurried to the door and looked carefully but she only saw one person in a raincoat slowly showing up.
It was the village head.
The village head shook his body to get the water off and gasped, “Has your man come back yet?”
Sister Jiang’s eyes turned red and she choked and said, “He’s not back yet.”
“It’s over, why aren’t they back yet after such a long time? I just heard that the road had an avalanche because of the rain again. Why aren’t they back yet?” The village head had also begun to feel restless, raindrops were hanging on his eyelashes and he squinted at the vast expanse of white due to the rain, “The rain won’t be stopping for the moment. It’s troubling.”
Yisheng felt anxious, “Then let’s not wait and look for them now.”
“How can we look for them in such heavy rain? If there’s another avalanche, the people that we send out to look for them might come back lying down,” The village head was very unhappy and harshly glanced at Yisheng. Suddenly, he remembered that she had said goodbye to one of the doctors when he had gone to pick them up. He suddenly realized, “Ah, right, that very handsome doctor is your husband?”
Yisheng did not answer.
The village head quickly comforted, “Don’t worry, when the rain stops, we’ll immediately head out to look for them.”
The rain was very heavy, but it stopped very quickly. The village head was indeed very quick and immediately assembled a group of people to look for them. Sister Jiang was worried and wanted to follow. Yisheng thought that if something had happened, she was a medical worker and would be able to help to take some emergency measures, so she followed Sister Jiang.
What made Yisheng very disappointed was that out of the six nurses, only she accompanied the team. She could not help but smile bitterly. It turns out that her colleagues had such a shallow relationship. When the group of them walked a meter out of the village, holding shovels and sticks, they saw a team being led by Song Anchen.
He was a little dirty and had a lot of mud on his arm. His gray-black T-shirt along with a large area on his trousers was also stained with yellow mud. He looked like he had fallen. On his back was Sister Jiang’s husband, whose hair had turned yellow because of the yellow mud. The other male doctors were also quite miserable and were covered in yellow.
When Song Anchen saw Yisheng standing amongst the group of people that looked like bandits, complex emotions flashed in his eyes.
When Yisheng saw them safe, her heart that had been anxious all this while finally relaxed. The village head hurriedly went forward to ask the man that Song Anchen was carrying on his back, “Ah, what happened?”
“The road was too slippery and I sprained my ankle. It caused us to be delayed and it was raining heavily. Because they were carrying me and I was being a burden, it caused these doctors to be drenched.”
“So useless,” The village head frowned and scolded him. After that, he bent down, “Come on, what are you doing continuing to lie on the doctor? I’ll carry you home.”
(T/N: ! Don’t misinterpret~ He’s not actually scolding him lol it’s more of a tsundere-ish thing oops)
“There’s no need, I’ll send him back. I happen to be staying at his house,” Song Anchen said calmly.
“Aiya, doctor, you scared your wife this time. Look at how she looked like she’s going to cry. Look,” The village head pursed his lips and said in the direction of Yisheng, “She insisted on accompanying us.”
Song Anchen looked at Yisheng and saw that she was standing opposite him rather awkwardly, not daring to meet his gaze. Song Anchen’s eyes twinkled and it was like seeing flowers and willow trees after trekking through thousands of mountains and rivers. He smiled slightly and said jokingly to her, “Wife, I’m back.”
