Yuga's Grotle was somewhat different in appearance from other Grotles.

After a regular Grotle evolves, the small saplings on their heads move to their backs, forming two dense clusters of trees symmetrically distributed on their shells.

However, Yuga's Grotle had a single, vigorously growing tree on its back, without the usual tree clusters.

This small tree was much like the sapling on a Grotle's head but larger and more vibrant.

As Yuga's Grotle moved, he could even see tiny green lights falling from the tree on its back, resembling fireflies. These lights were exceptionally beautiful and mesmerizing, even in broad daylight.

They looked like fireflies, but they were incredibly conspicuous, even in bright sunlight.

To everyone's astonishment, these green lights fell onto the Grotle's back and seemed to enter its body as if homing in.

"Wow, your little tree is so amazing!" Gardevoir noticed the difference on the Grotle's back, approached it curiously, and examined the small tree.

"Do you know where this tree comes from?" Yuga had been curious about the tree for a long time but hadn't found any information about it despite extensive research.

"Well, this should be something from a powerful Torterra," Gardevoir replied after some thought, hesitating slightly.

"Something from a Torterra?" Yuga asked, puzzled.

"How can a Torterra have a seed on its back?"

Yuga was sure that this tree was originally just a seed.

"Why are you so clueless? Torterras don't have seeds on their backs, but they have trees," Gardevoir responded, giving Yuga a disdainful look.

"This seed should have formed on the back of a powerful Torterra," Gardevoir continued to explain to the "ignorant" Yuga.

Only now did Yuga recall that Torterra and Grotles bore fruit on their backs.

It was said that many Pokémon living with Torterra or Grotles considered the fruits on their backs as food.

"Is this seed on the back of a Torterra really that special?" Yuga couldn't help but ask.

Upon hearing Yuga's question, Gardevoir rolled its eyes once again.

"Do you think just any Torterra can produce a seed like this?"

Yuga felt like he was being pierced by Gardevoir's disdainful gaze and gestured for Gardevoir to continue.

"Regular Torterras with trees on their backs only bloom and bear fruit, but they can't produce complete seeds. Any Torterra capable of producing perfect seeds must be extremely powerful."

Gardevoir cleared its throat and explained in a pretentious manner, as if Yuga's ignorance gave it a great sense of superiority.

Watching Gardevoir's childish and affected behavior, Yuga couldn't help but think he was wasting his time. After all, this creature had once been a Legendary Pokémon, and yet its maturity seemed surpassed by even young children.

Seeing Gardevoir looking over, Yuga smiled and said, "Please, continue."

Yuga's attitude satisfied Gardevoir, and it continued:

"Since the tree on the back of the Grotle can sprout, it indicates that its owner must be someone who has reached the pinnacle of regular Pokémon. Moreover, this little tree is so extraordinary that the Torterra must have invested all its power into nurturing this seed before its death. Your little turtle is quite lucky."

After saying this, Gardevoir even smacked its lips, expressing its amazement.

Even as the once well-traveled Grass-type Legendary Pokémon, Gardevoir, this was the first time it had encountered such a miraculous little tree.

Its ability to make this guess primarily stemmed from sensing the power within this small tree, which was of the same source as Grotle's power.

Lucky?

After listening to Gardevoir's explanation, Yuga didn't think Grotle had been lucky at all.

To obtain the seed of this tree, Grotle had lost its own mother.

Could a single seed be compared to the life of one's mother?

However, why would a Torterra go through the trouble of nurturing this seed? Yuga couldn't comprehend.

Selfless dedication?

Yuga couldn't be certain if Gardevoir's words were true or not.

Regardless, Yuga was very pleased with Grotle's evolution.

Subsequently, Yuga recalled his Pokémon, and Gardevoir happily left the main Ecopark to play in other areas of the Sub-Ecopark.

Once outside the main Ecopark and in the shop, Yuga spotted Arata Sena inside.

Upon seeing Yuga, Arata Sena cheerfully exclaimed, "Gym Leader, you've come out! There's a challenger waiting for you in the gym."

A challenger?

Yuga nodded in response to Arata Sena's words and said, "Let's go."

Saying that, he walked out of the shop, with Arata Sena closely following.

When Yuga arrived in the gym's reception area, Beidou was already entertaining the challenger.

"I've kept you waiting. I am a Gym Leader from the Verdanturf Gym, Shimizu Yuga. You must be the challenger,"

Seeing Yuga's arrival, Beidou and the challenger both stood up.

"Hello, Master Shimizu. I am Riley, from Sinnoh region. I look forward to our battle."

Riley?

Yuga was somewhat surprised at the mention of this name.

He had an impression of this person because Riley was the Aura user.

This Aura Guardian Riley appeared to be about the same age as Yuga, wearing a blue coat and a blue hat, making him look rather handsome. Of course, Yuga believed he fell slightly short when compared to himself.

"Well then, Mr. Riley, please follow me."

Saying this, Yuga led Riley to the battle arena in the courtyard.

Yuga and Riley took their positions on opposite sides of the battle arena. Beidou stood in the role of referee and announced the rules of the gym battle.

Beidou: "Please, Gym Leader Shimizu, present your Pokémon first."

Just as Yuga was about to release his Pokémon, Riley suddenly spoke up, "Gym Leader Shimizu, may I make a request?"

Yuga responded, "Please go ahead."

"I hope that in this battle, you will give it your all," Riley said firmly.

He had come to challenge the gym not for the Hoenn League Conference but solely for training purposes. He had heard that the Gym Leader at the Verdanturf Gym was a formidable opponent and had come specifically to challenge him.

Give it your all?

Upon hearing Riley's words, Yuga hesitated for a moment.

Does that mean I should release my Lapras and the others?

After some thought, although he switched the Poké Ball in his hand, Yuga ultimately chose not to release Lapras. It would be unfair to go all out against an inexperienced challenger.

Even though Lapras remained in its Poké Ball, Yuga replied to Riley, "Very well, I accept your request."

With that said, Yuga released his first Pokémon.
